Does this mean that the Gamepass version is not restricted in playing with only people that have the Gamepass version?

I do want to give Payday 3 a try someday but having someone yell at me for screwing up the stealth section is not a nice thought. That said, I do love Deep Rock Galactic and it took me a bit to acclimate to that so perhaps I could adjust for this too.

It's fully cross platform, everyone has to sign up for an account over at Starbreeze to play the game to facilitate crossplay and cross progression. People seem salty about this process but if it allows for a healthier player base since Gamepass gets mixed in there and the ability to change platforms without having to start over I'm all for it.

Edit: That is to say, as long as matchmaking works. lol. I haven't tried to play yet but heard some things.

I was initially disappointed to hear witchfire described as a roguelite after I expected it to just be a straightforward campaign, but the format actually sounds closer to something like chernobylite, which I’m much more onboard with. anyway I’ll check it out once it’s out of jail and early access, except if it took this long to even reach EA that might not be for another decade.

Payday 3 is impressively still unplayable 9 hours after release. It takes 30+ minutes to matchmake even into a solo game and so far 3/4 of the time I've made it through I just got a generic matchmaking error.

Well, what's a few more for the pile then, right?

I have two games that I'm aware of on my radar that just released today, but whereas Airship: Kingdoms Adrift seems pretty unfinished/mid, Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles seems very good for those of the roguelike deckbuilder (dicebuilder) persuasion, as indicated by people who somehow already have hundreds of hours in it (presumably from demos/beta access, unless they have learned to defy the laws of time). Gimme a sec to see if I can fish out the review I did of it for a festival...

Jossar posted:

Well, I guess reviewing one demo from Made in Brazil couldn't hurt...

Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles is a dice-based deckbuilding roguelike where you take the role of one of the titular Six-Sided Oracles in an attempt to defeat a terrible corruption that has emerged from the heart of the star system Astrea, wrecked one of the planets in the system, and threatens to engulf the rest.

It's cute and clever - the dice have a chance to screw you over, but you have abilities that you can only trigger when you take damage and some of the dice you can draft allow you to convert bad dice to equal and opposite effects. So while the game gives you the capacity to play things safe if you really want, you're encouraged to keep things as risky as you can tolerably bear, and bounce your health bar around like a pinball. The in-run currency is primarily used to buy a bunch of upgradable sentinels who add their dice to your own actions so you don't get overwhelmed by the enemy action economy later on, although I found that it was already starting to get overwhelming once two were on the field at once. Then again, I didn't optimize my deck very well in my trial run-through.

Could be unbalanced, but seems good, expects to release some time this year. Weirdly enough, I didn't see any signs of metaprogression at all, but that might have just been the demo, so no idea if that reflects on the final game.

Have you heard of Fermat's principle?
Weird West critique: anyone else a bit disappointed with the pigman character?

I got really excited when I arrived at a town and was told to piss off by the law because my kind isn't welcome! I thought that now the game was gonna be like playing a Nosferatu in Bloodlines where you need to sneak around at night through the sewers and find the black market to trade since people are terrified of you, or at the very least like playing an half-ogre in Arcanum and being refused services and/or scammed with price hikes since people are racist. You know, a total recontextualization of the world that would keep things fresh and interesting after just coming off of playing as a normal bog-standard human.

But before I could even imagine and marvel at all the implications of this and what I'd do, the game has a nun NPC just a few feet away from the lawman that is super nice and says that she'll vouch for you if you help her out by killing some bandits raiding her church. And sure enough, if you go and blast a few bandits, suddenly you're accepted not just by that town, but every other town on the map as well!

Talk about a wasted opportunity! Why go to the trouble of setting this all up if you're just gonna give the player an easy out? Now the world is no different for the pigman than it was for the bounty hunter and it just feels like a waste of the character swapping mechanic. I like the game for the most part, but this really took some considerable wind out of my sails. I guess you could argue its my fault and I should've not taken the deal, but it felt like what the game was pushing me towards and I didn't think it would get me accepted everywhere.

Looks like factorio or satisfactory, but its an RTS. You can change up how your units and buildings are equipped, so you can plop a building around a bunch of ore and have it mine all the ore, or have a mobile unit that goes around smelting things. You can even edit their behavior to do things like if you have so many metal bars, the producers will switch over to making metal plates instead.

Yeah the character swapping in weird west sounds great but fails in execution. Once you find a play style that suits you all the characters kind of play the same.

At no point are you forced to drastically alter how you play.

Jack Trades

The issue with character switching in Weird West is that guns are always good, and every gun type has 4 unique abilities, that the character itself and their unique abilities are kind of unnecessary.
Like, yeah, turning into a werewolf is cool and all but if I've been using the same pistol abilities since the start of the game, and they work great, you kind of need to do something to push me into turning into a werewolf, otherwise I'll just keep using the pistols since they worked so well for all this time.

Weird West is a very cool game despite it's many shortcomings though. I hope it did well enough for the studio to keep working on more projects. Especially considering that every other Looking Glass successor is loving dead.

It's funny timing that you should ask that since Touhou: Artificial Dream in Arcadia is due out in 6 hours (and has a demo to try now).

Does have the quirk of needing to do little danmaku sequences for captures, though. Touhou. Combat's still turn-based.

Touhou fangames aside, though, I assume Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster didn't escape your notice. Not sure of how many games there are in that specific niche, though, especially not dipping into the Persona branch. There's Pry Into The Void for something that's trying to be like it, and it has a demo to try, but it doesn't have any announced release date and it's not in early access.

My biggest issue is that just like Siralim, a lot of games that attempt that style of gameplay of just don't pay enough attention to the interface. I played Shin Megami Tensei 4, and even that game would require me to look up external resources if I wanted to engage with the team building.

I hear that SMT V does a good job on improving the interface but I unfortunately don't have any way to play it.

I imagine that the SMT 3 Remaster didn't improve the interface?
