xQc is a cockwomble and indeed, most videos really aren't improved by the addition of a face that's saying nothing at all. I will however give passes to Chef Reactions because his general surliness and one-liners make me laugh, and Limmy because of how often he'll pause the episode of something like 3-2-1 he's watching to go on a 30 minute tangent about how he used to really dislike The Farm's guitarist because he had his guitar on his chest or something equally obscure. Or...y'know, anyone who watches things and actually makes the effort to commentate on it.

Otherwise...I mean, what's the point of showing something if you aren't actually going to bloody say anything about it to the audience? It's like that SoFlo guy who used to start a vid with "WOAH THIS IS TOTALLY ME" before just playing the clip he'd freebooted in its entirety without any credit.

I gravitated towards the Greens, eventually even joining the party itself.

The Linke is a party I grudgingly accept exists, but I've learned enough about DDR-history I can't bring myself to trust a party that was once the SED, a party leading the corrupt state apparatus ...

I've found exactly one good reaction channel on Youtube. Dude called "Critical Reactions", getting barely a few hundred views. He listens through a song, and then goes on a long dissection of that song purely from memory.

It's actually useful, because he'll often catch things in a song's composition that I didn't realise. It's more like a book club for typically pretty niche music.

Yeah this, by far the best react content I've seen is the coastguard guy who reacted to the Internet Historian Costa Concordia video and did a really good job contextualizing how it was even worse than IH made it out to be.

yeah it occurred to me that "former twitch streamer that got banned for being racist/homophobic/misogynist/etc. and now has a deal with Kick to promote gambling" is something that needs to be narrowed down a bit

Kim Justice

Trainwrecks' ban for that wasn't permanent anyway, he still streams on Twitch occasionally despite being one of the driving forces behind Kick.

Pyrocinical is a very, very special case of a React Streamer because for weeks, you'll get the equivalent of British\Portuguese morning programming for zoomers that you feel like if your soul, life and intelligence is getting sucked out thru the screen like if he was shooting you with that Mandark beam from the Dexter Laboratory movie, and then once every few months you find out he tracked down the actual house for MyHouse.wad or went to visit the Cruelty Squad guy for a rather telling interview.

I don't know who else has this kind of model. It's insane. It's like if Blowback had a daily side show where Brendan James riffed on the front page of Reddit AITA\TIFU entries.

It was a different time for sure. If you want to see the video game equivalent of that then go check out Mandalore's Anonymous Agony video sometime. Just an insane amount of talent all paid for by the vague promise of 'exposure' and basically nothing else.

I know that but there is difference between remotely collaborating with people on video and being flown out the middle of the Nevada desert to film a movie. If my boss asked me to work an event. You drat well better belive I am getting paid to work it and for my travel time. Doug Walker paid for plane tickets and compensated the rest of Channel Awesome guys in exposer.

edit: MechanicalTomPetty has a point about those years being "a different time." Both the Teamsters and UAW have taken aim at ending the pay tiers their industries adopted during the great recession; I see those tiers and the free labor used to make the Channel Awesome movies as the products of the same desperation for work of any kind people had during those years.

I’m sure the relative naïveté of being a college student or recent graduate without other options was a factor, as was the domain of internet video-maker being a total unknown as a source of income. Nobody knew how lovely it was, both because they were the very first to attempt it and because they didn’t have the work experience to know what it is to be treated fairly in employment.

Didn’t it used to be a thing that people aspired to make their hobby a career, or to “do what you love” before the huge backlash against that stuff? I’m glad that’s over.

Being at a big crossover event was probably a good proposition during a time when collaborations were thought to be a major way of getting more views. In a views based economy that's worth money.

But yes, things were still being figured out and absolutely nobody involved had a clue. It was a dumb time, but also an inevitable one.
