I can tell you something now that I was legally bound not to say at the time: recruitment for Operation Unicorn, the plan for handling the Queen's death should it occur at her Scottish estate, was put in motion immediately after Philip's funeral. Nobody thought she'd last forever, but he was her rock and when he died it was anticipated that she wouldn't survive him more than a few months.

You can acknowledge that the royals suck, that the queen personally sucked, and also that he attending the funeral of her husband and rock completely alone must have been very painful and, on a more relevant note, makes boris and the partygate people look really really bad in comparison. For all it may have been terribly misplaced and misdirected, Brenda clearly felt some sense of duty in a way our current crop of politicians don’t.
