Here's a quick version of Vivek's past from college classmate Pablo Torre (longer version on his channel): https://youtube.com/shorts/o7P835lu-vM?si=056hN_oUX2z_41HO

Vivek has apparently been That Guy since at least college and he's a total loving weirdo. Once Pablo mentioned that Vivek would raise his hand all the time in Harvard classes, in the shape of a V, everything else slid into place for me. He may/may not believe any of this poo poo in the debate and through this primary, the Rule of Goats applies and gently caress that guy.

I bought and read the book by Cassidy Hutchinson, Enough, on a whim. One of the books funnier running themes is Matt Gaetz appearing every now and then and always being portrayed as an absolute loving looser.

quote:

We hung out at Kevin’s (McCarthy) for a while, drinking quite a bit before people drifted off to their quarters. A few of us were left when, at one o’clock or so, Dan Crenshaw, who had lost an eye in Afghanistan, brought out a display case of variously designed glass eyes he always carried with him, and began popping in one after another and asking us which we liked best.
There was a knock on the door. I thought it was Camp David staff coming to warn us to quiet down—Kevin’s cabin was across from the president’s. But when Kevin opened the door, we discovered Matt Gaetz leaning against the doorframe. Matt straightened his posture when Kevin asked him what he wanted, and he explained that he had seen my golf cart parked outside and thought that this was my cabin. Embarrassed, I got up and asked Matt what he needed. He explained that he was lost and asked me to escort him to his cabin. I told him to proceed around the circle drive—all the cabins were clearly marked and it was impossible to get lost. He asked me one more time to leave with him. “Get a life, Matt,” Kevin said, then shut the door.

Hutchinson, Cassidy. Enough (p. 105).

So, practically guaranteed a shutdown now. House Republicans are just poo poo-flinging chimpanzees wordlessly screeching at each other. They're putting more effort in to impeachment sound bites for Fox to broadcast than they are keeping the lights on. I'm putting 30 days in the betting pool. They have no plan and a large portion of the house Republicans want there to be no plan. Dismantling the government is their goal, not something to be avoided. The majority is so slim that I feel the true MAGA believers will never accept a deal and are just totally OK letting the mother fucker burn, and that there's enough of them to ensure there is never a Republican plan. The way I see things shaking out is the hardcore fundamentalists will never agree to a deal and McCarthy is going to have to work with dems, which will be signing his and more than a few other representatives political death warrants. They'll do everything possible to never, ever do that. Until poo poo gets bad, and the money starts to hurt, nothing happens. The money is going to have to start yanking leashes so hard there's no choice left and it's going to take a good, long while to get to that point.

Considering a senior senator was just caught taking bribes from Egypt, guessing significant numbers are on the take for embarrassingly small amounts from unexpected countries. Wonder how much routine corruption would vanish if Congressional salaries were raised to $2 million annually. Would be trivial in the budget but would cut out so much.

For the shutdown, yeah guessing a few weeks minimum. Kinda wish shutdowns meant air travel grounded & social security checks don’t go out to create screaming pressure for our awful leaders to get it together or be immediately replaced.

Eh, a lot of the Russian money has already gone into subverting the cultural foundations of American conservatism (and progressivism, for that matter), such that they don't even need today to be contributing directly to all those looking to burn things down. They're probably still financing those actively fanning the flames, but a lot of it comes down to the GOP just genuinely going crazy.

The lawyers filed a "judge, we think you're biased, recuse pls" motion, which failed, and are now asking for a trial date delay. Meanwhile, the Special Counsel is arguing for some type of gag order, with one potential option being a speedup of the trial to limit Donnie's piehole yappings. You'd probably want to be the party that didn't just accuse the judge of being biased.

And note - I don't think ref-working is really a thing when it comes to federal judges. They're as permanent as permanent can be and don't need to keep sources happy like reporters.
