the local gov got some unplanned road construction funding from the state, so they paid some third party to do a half rear end job paving over our moonscape like road. They used some kind of cheap road base stuff that normally you'd seal or pave over, except nobody ever came to seal or even paint lines back on or even pick up the 'low shoulder' signs after months. This has resulted in an almost doubling of average travel speed now that the surface is smooth(er) and back to being similar to a regular road, but because it's not actually smooth at all the noise of the vehicles going by is SO MUCH LOUDER.
