The word "inflammable" may be erroneously thought to mean "non-flammable".[3] The erroneous usage of the word "inflammable" is a significant safety hazard. Therefore, since the 1950s, efforts to put forward the use of "flammable" in place of "inflammable" were accepted by linguists, and it is now the accepted standard in American English and British English.[4][5]

So the meanings of the words "prescriptivism" and "descriptivism" have drifted over time, what's the problem?

Because puttana means roughly "whore" or "prostitute" and puttanesca is an adjective derived from that word, the dish may have been invented in one of many bordellos in the Naples working-class neighbourhood of Quartieri Spagnoli as a quick meal taken between servicing clients.[9][10][11] Alternatively, food historian Jeremy Parzen suggests: "Italians use puttana (and related words) almost the way we use poo poo, as an all-purpose profanity, so pasta alla puttanesca might have originated with someone saying, essentially, 'I just threw a bunch of poo poo from the cupboard into a pan'."[12]

A matter of some contention after the Great Depression arose over the heights of Massive and its neighbor, Mount Elbert, which have a height difference of only 12 feet (3.7 m). This led to an ongoing dispute which came to a head with the Mount Massive supporters taking it upon themselves to build large piles of stones on the summit to boost its height, only to have the Mount Elbert proponents demolish them.[7][8][9]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Lamest_edit_warsquote:Some discussions are born lame; some achieve lameness; some have lameness thrust upon them. Upon coming across a discussion that is borderline lame, some Wikipedians may be tempted to go do something useful. This is a big mistake. Left to its own devices, the discussion might inadvertently become useful. What's the fun in that? It is essential that as many editors as possible chime in, not adding to the discussion at hand but pointing, LOL, and lamely commenting about how lame it is and how it's a big waste of time (See Self-fulfilling prophecy, Positive feedback, and Exponential growth). Merely stating the discussion is lame is frequently not sufficient; every opposing statement must be denied with increasingly vehement assertions of the lameness. While at first blush, wasting time whining about what a waste of time something is may seem illogical, the inherent irony just magnifies the lameness. An additional step to increase lameness is to include repeated links to this essay, which is WP:LAME. Administrators have a special role to play; proposing and implementing topic bans on lame participants is doubly effective: it not only increases the present-day lameness, but, by quashing debate, helps ensure the lame issue remains unsolved for future generations of Wikipedians to go on about. Lamely.

The pumping of water is a basic and practical technique, far more practical than scooping it up with one's hands or lifting it in a hand-held bucket...The ancient concept of the aqueduct took simple and eloquent advantage of maintaining elevation of water for as long and far a distance as possible.

Improvements [edit] Sources needed, for example: why's the poisonous water poisonous, why's it not potable? The old, gravity powered aqueducts, potential energy due to altitude is slowly converted to kinetic energy, allowing it to be carried long distances. It's not simply controlling kinetic energy. Today, water may be contaminated. What about in the past? In the future? Should also refer to ground water since it must be pumped and there's far more groundwater than water in lakes and rivers. How do we pump above 11 meters from groundwater? If one forms a vacuum above water, it'll move up at most about 11 meters due to the pressure of the atmosphere, but what do we do when we need it to go higher? 99.235.118.210 11:31, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
