This is a delusional person and there is no way to get them to see reason because they do not experience the world the way a mentally healthy person does. At least we have Star Citizen as an outlet for them to use, because I shudder to think what would happen if monocle cat were unleashed into wider society.

Not because it will materially change anything, but because I want to see all the reasoning as to why that was a perfectly acceptable thing to do. I want to see that same type people who laughed at 'You guys don't have phones?' fall over themselves to forgive being told bluntly where to shove their concerns. This already happened. I want to say 4-5 years ago? Sir Robert of Space himself, after years of missing deadlines, features and point releases disappearing altogether, said no more dates, I'm terrible at estimating, and besides it's your own fault for expecting me to abide by dates, we are making history, etc. All the Citizers of Store just nodded along.

And they're apparently even slower and less capable than he thought, seeing as that video was years ago at this point. He sounds like a great guy to work for.

Next year Elite Dangerous will be a decade old. And soon enough Chris will have been "working" on SC for longer than all his other games combined.

quote:Now Starfield is out it'll likely fall even more, drat PC hates Elite Dangerous. And I mean, I hate it too as does everyone who plays it. And no it doesn't measure up to what it should be, but it exists. No one who plays Elite Dangerous is going to think "gee Starfield really accomplishes why I play this dumb game" and veer off. poo poo, I played E:D today for the first time in a while and landed on a planet to do the dumb engineering and the thought that went through my head was how badly Starfield missed the mark by allowing you to fast travel everywhere, how they have completely flubbed the feeling of going to different planets and seeing things across the galaxy. quote:Microsoft would pay just to have the Arena Commander modules Remember Star Wars Squadrons? It was awesome. It had VR in it! The dream of dogfights in space in the Star War! It was dead in 2 months. It's steam drop from launch month to the next was 75%. And yeah they dropped the ball on things with it, especially making the baffling decision that this was the game they weren't going to do any post launch support for, but honestly I think a lot of people went to play it and didn't like flying a spaceship in first person. I fail to see how SC is going to be any different. Why would a space dogfight game in a universe that no one knows about made by a guy who nobody in the real world knows be something Microsoft would be chomping at the bit to get? These are niche games. Yes, SC has 4 million backers and that's impressive but that pales in comparison to mainstream games. A lot of that is probably just people who get suckered in by their admittedly slick video on youtube but then they find out the reality of the state of the game. Pisscat can point and laugh how E:D has gone from 28k concurrent to 2.5k concurrent, but the last number I can find about SC is that they allegedly have average 50k players DAU (in 2022). That's not going to be 10k for concurrency, let alone 28k.

He knows two important things. First, that for whatever reason (other people's incompetence) the game is a total mess and will never amount to a fraction of what was dreamed. And second, that it doesn't matter because a bunch of imbeciles will never, ever stop to give him money as long as there is a billionth percent of a chance of the game ever existing. He just needs to go thru the motions and reap the money and no more.
