Old Town Road to EGOT

Saw Broken Social Scene for the 2nd time (first being at a festival in 2006) last night. They played a small-ish theater, which was wild considering there were like 9 or 10 members on stage at once at times. It was a sweet show, though. They played the majority of You Forgot It In People, which is an album I've loved for almost 20 years, so that ruled. I guess Leslie Feist and Emily Haines don't tour with them anymore. The vocalist was Jill Harris, and she did a good job, though I would've rather seen Feist/Haines do their vocal parts like they appear on the album.

How was cat power? I don’t know if she digs in her back catalog at all but did she play cross bones style. I like her a lot, but from other fans I’ve heard stories of conflicting live performances.

No one really goes into detail retrospective wise but part of the reason the postal service was so special is the production and psych nature of it beyond the amazing hooks.

Just wanna add The National gig was amazing. In my old age I was up in the gods sat down but I had a great view and both the production/visuals and the performance blew me away. Fantastic set list with one or two nice surprises which I won’t spoil, but old school National tracks.

Soccer Mommy was great too. Hope she is touring the UK properly so I can see her.

Waited in line in the rain and got into the listening party for the new Animal Collective album at Public Records. First off, the fidelity is bonkers on the album, they said they recorded the whole thing analog and man it sounded good on a topnotch HiFi system. The first half is really good; whatever song has "Magnolias" in it is going to be a new classic with the drums.

However the second half is so meandering I was not thrilled with it. First half was magical.

Any recommendations on where to start with The War On Drugs? They're coming here with Spoon as a supporting act in December. I'm a huge Spoon fan and tossing up whether it's worth going along to see them and just never gave The War On Drugs a proper listen. Guess I've got a few months to change that though!

Yeah, and if you like the first song, the rest of the album sounds exactly like it. Good way to get some time back.

The album came out on schedule but even Pitchfork didn’t review it (after giving their last album a 7). It’s weird and I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed

it’s the same with new pornographers and neko case, they mainly do full lineup for big festivals and small tours. I think they recently did a handful of you forget it in people playthroughs with everybody
