That may have been the plan but things like "balance" and "unit versatility" weren't part of the design

It will be interesting to see how character creation pans out. The origins and defining backstory bits are what intrigue me mainly, but I also want to see how badly I can break the game.

Not knowing how crazy it will get late game it definitely seems like you can easily break combat by speccing to give yourself the most actions in melee. Tactics and strategy for the game being based on the 'momentum' means that enough kills quick really give you an advantage comparable to heavy pre-fight buffs had that been an option.

Which makes it even more crazy that they thought the game should ship with the hommode. Even now, years after release and tons of patches later I get 10 fights deep on the map, remember how tedious the system is and mod it out. WotR is awesome to play so why they keep saddling their RPGs with poo poo management systems is beyond me.

they stretch themselves insanely thin on the PF games, scope and feature creep got way out of hand plus having to make good on all the extra promises for exceeding the fundraising goals on Kickstarter. The campaign stuff probably got the worst of it.

There's a dev interview with how the mythic system developed, and it went from the lead dev setting the goal at 4, to ballooning to 12, before finally getting dropped down to 6 after several back and forth arguments, with the Act 5 'prestige' versions getting a small handful of unique content, one of which Devil is literally just a series of conversations and a boss fight.

You have to understand something : East european gamers live, eat, breathe HoMM-likes (also Jagged Alliance, but that's another discussion). When NWC released HoMM 3, something *shifted* out there. Or was abruptly swung back into its proper, aeon-awaited alignment maybe. The echoing waves of that day are still rippling. I'm sure there's Hungarian-dubbed HoMM porn out there.

It's really no coincidence at all that all of the recent HoMMs were from Russian studios ; as were the new King's Bounties ; or that the re-makers of Master of Magic are Polish.

IIRC people are still playing HoMM3 multiplayer in Eastern Europe; I've caught glimpses of streamers playing it coming up in my YT recs.

Also, as an aside, I really don't think the MoM remake was all that good, if anyone else is on the fence. It's basically the old game with a slightly glossier reskin.

I remain very curious as to what the final state of psykers will be in the release game. The beta is so sparse with them, and virtually none of the story beats are developed, but there's tons of Stuff buried in the files that has presumably been developed.

I do hope they don't tie powers to equipment; that was one of the things I disliked about the beta I played. It's odd, since from what I can remember the alpha's psyker powers worked like they did in the tabletop game, and I'm not sure why Owlcat decided to tweak things for the beta.

Honestly? Very badly. Once you get over the nostalgia hit, it becomes increasingly obvious just how much TBS games have progressed since the original MoM. About the only change the devs made apart from the graphics is that the map is hex-based instead of tile-based. Other than that? Nothing. No culture stuff like Civ does, no character-based developments like Crusader Kings, only 4 rival wizards max so bigger maps feel empty- it just feels so basic to play.

My biggest concern is that they don't greatly expand the open universe//colonization stuff. It's what I had the most fun with during the beta and what I'm most excited about for release. If it turns out the beta already had most or all of that content I'm going to be super bummed.

There's usually some late game stuff added in with the full release, but I doubt the version as it exists now will change much for most of a playthrough.

I would assume, if like the mythic path in WOTR, going Heretical will give you an entirely different set of options and possibilities for the colony stuff.

Hoped into the beta to see how the game feels. Can't tell if the constant frame rate dips are specific to anything, but I'm like 2 generations above the recommended settings(1050 vs my 3060Ti) so that must be a owlcat problem.

Definitely getting the vibe of wanting a build guide for everyone as there are so many moving parts to combat it is very hard trying to trial and error everything. I checked the reddit page but it's a ton of people getting really mad about romances for some reason.

There won't be a "content update" until the full game releases in December.

I really want there to be a Benevolentia path that's essentially an extra hard mode tacked on because the 40k universe eats good people for breakfast.

I have been wondering what the endings etc. are going to look like, and precisely where Benevolentia is going exactly. It appears to be associated (surprisingly) with the senechal and probably a few other characters. There's going to be a portion of the playerbase that has Ideas about what, exactly, a 40K Game Should Be, and I've been wondering if Owlcat is bold and confident enough at this point to buck those expectations and in what ways.

From what I've heard, it was a combination of HoMM 3 being one of the few Western games that managed to get a localization in post-Soviet Eastern Europe, was easily cracked, could run on the potato computers that people in the region had, and was also light enough on bandwidth usage to be one of the few games where people in the region could actually play multiplayer games (being a TBS and all). IIRC there's also enough people from the region still streaming the game to this day, which keeps its popularity up.

Jack Trades posted:

IIRC, the options are (spoiling to be safe):

Cassia (straight male romance)
Heinrik (straight female romance)
Jae (bi)
Yrliet (bi, but platonic, i.e. no heretical xenobanging for you, heretic)
Dracon Marazhai (gay male romance)

Not sure if there's an exclusively lesbian romance.

Honestly, I'm kind of with the redditors on this one; no lesbian romance I can think of, and having the sole gay male romance be a Drukhari is all kinds of :yikeseroo: if you ask me.
