I was thinking hard on whether the ultra EX30 option with the panoramic glass roof makes sense, but then I realized I almost never open these up in my current car and live in a pretty sunny place where this could be a pain in the rear end. I've even seen some Tesla owners putting film/fabric to cover the thing.

Yes!!! I have a tiny coupe made in the early aughts. So I’m used to small spaces but it makes sense since it is a tiny car.

A lil while back I test drove some hybrid suvs which I felt were monster sized and yet the insides were somehow cramped. What gives?

There is 8-12" inches of crash structure and swoopy body styling all the way around you in a modern car intruding into the interior space.

The BYD Atto 3 has both a tiny cluster in front of the steering wheel and a large(ish) main screen which can rotate from landscape to portrait with the push of a button.

Not sure what good portrait mode is though as CarPlay and Android Auto only work in landscape.

Kawasaki has released some new electric motorcycles and unfortunately, e-motos arent advancing as quickly as cars. 40 miles of range, tops out at 50mph, for $7299. The removable batteries, however is a considerable benefit. They also look normal unlike the ugly as hell CAKE, Sondors Metacycle and other competitors.

I am actually thinking about a Z e-1. Maybe if some tax credits become available. I live in a city where the speeds are doable for me and being able to charge inside is a massive benefit over the Zeros. And I just dont understand why Sondors, CAKE etc made their bikes so goddamn ugly, like motorcycle equivalents of the cybertruck.

I would really like Honda to get their poo poo together and release the electric successor to the super cub globally already with the MPP removable/swappable batteries

They have started a limited run of some MPP bikes but so far only in the Chinese [Honda Cub eHonda U-GO] and (I think) Japanese markets [Honda EM1]. Probably trying to find out remaining problems before unleashing the final version to SE asia where they dominate the market

CSC makes a electric Super Cub clone but parts are going to be ehhh in ten years

Android Auto works perfectly fine on portrait displays. Subaru and some other OEMs apparently haven't implemented it properly so it displays as a landscape window on their systems, but that's not an Android Auto limitation.

Here's what the home screen looks like on a vertical 720p display.

There's also a split mode, seems like the active map app always gets the top spot and the app selector or other apps get the bottom.

Yeah BYD didn't implement it - as soon as you connect a phone the display automatically swivels back to landscape.

Cars under $45k with a heads-up display barely exist even with gas motors, the only one I can think of is the Accord.

It looks like the top trim Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a HUD, it's over $50k but if you lease it you get a $7,500 credit which brings it under $45k. May not be high enough off the ground for you?

Livewire seems to be doing excellent work, and just came out with their $15k bike which is much more affordable than their $21k bike

I think we’re still a ways away from a $7k e-bike that can compete with a $7k gas bike, but we’re much closer than we were a couple of years ago

Also Ducati is in the game now and making a serious MotoGP contender that looks like it’s really leveraging their/Audi’s resources and chops to do new and cool poo poo so I’m optimistic, but also the pressure to advance is way lower on the bike side because even if emissions are bad (made worse by everybody tuning and pipe/muffler swapping many new bikes as a matter of course) fuel economy is way better than 99% of riders could ever want. Not really much pressure to swap your $5k-$10k bike when you get 100mpg

Maybe a Hyundai Ioniq 5 or Kia EV6? The price will be slightly higher for a decent trim level, but if you do the lease/buyout thing (which Kia and Hyundai are both doing), you effectively get $6000 off which should put it around your target.

Ioniq 6 is in that range too if you want a sedan rather than a crossover/SUV.

All of those meet your criteria, depending on what you consider "okay" ground clearance.

Edit: Wait, do you mean an ACTUAL HUD, or just a driver-side dashboard?

RWD ID4 Pro just squeaks in for your requirements, depending on what charging speed you consider fast. I think our higher spec AWD model is a bit overpriced now, it does not feel like a 50k car, but the lower trim levels are a decent deal. You get the full tax credit too, bringing the price down into the high 30's.

For the price range (~$45k including either a tax credit or dealer-assisted lease-buyout shenanigans), I think these meet all your criteria:

- Hyundai Ioniq 5
- Hyundai Ioniq 6
- Kia EV6
- Volkswagen ID.4
- Mustang Mach-E

Other cars people talk about a lot in this thread:
- Tesla Model 3 (no CarPlay, no driver-side dash)
- Chevy Bolt EV/EUV (no fast charging, range is 240-260 on most trims)
- Volvo EX30 (no driver-side dash)
- Polestar 2 (close, but above your price range and not eligible for tax credit)
- Toyota bZ4x (no Carplay, 250ish range, may not actually exist to buy)
- Nissan Leaf (poor range, CHAdeMO is the dumbest thing ever in 2023)

There are a lot of luxury brands that are varying levels of "good" but aren't really close to your price range other than the BMW i4.

GM has a bunch of affordable new EVs coming out soon, but they're ditching CarPlay and Android Auto on all their new cars.

And I guess there's the Honda Prologue coming next year, but I don't know a ton about it.

I haven’t had any issues with the heat in our Mach-E with the glass roof. We don’t get as hot up here for nearly as long but even during the hottest part of the year it’s not bad.

We do have the white interior though, which helps mitigate heat retention.

The Hyundai Kona EV might be a good pick too. Significantly cheaper than a Ioniq 5 but has most of the bells and whistles. Personally I love my Ioniq 5, so I’d recommend that one.

I think something like a couple dozen Cybertrucks have been seen on the lots around the Austin factory, with rumor being that production "master" versions are being made now. So either they are very close to customer deliveries (maybe this month), or the much funnier option: they're still months away, and all the ones being very visibly driven around are just to keep up hype and appearances that everything's going fine with it.

I really doubt it, the front bumper/fascia is wide and flat to distribute impact force, I doubt it's significantly more lethal than a standard big rear end truck.

As stupid as the Cybertruck is, Teslas are at the top of all the safety rankings, it's improbable that they'd just forgot to have any safety compliance engineers work on this one, but anything's possible when Elon's involved.
