Like you said, a lot of people don't realistically have the option to get fresh food and cook it, for a variety of reasons.

In rural Oregon, it's all about the Dollar Generals. They are everywhere as long as the town is small enough. I'm lucky to also have a Carniceria in town that has a very good produce/fresh foods section.
