The Cubs rightful place is the same as the Twins: always good, never great, except when it comes to weird historic poo poo. Loveable players, poo poo ownership. Iconic stadiums that largely play into experience more than being good (though Target Field definitely has advantages over the Metrodome in "good" metrics.)

The Buccos are a scrappy team with one of the top 5 shittiest owners in the league and deserve it more than either of our teams. Plus I don't think their winning would unseal Horrors Beyond Comprehension like 2016 did.

Gonna be great watching Votto play next year for Pittsburgh, where baseball careers go to die.

I admit I'm personally pretty bummed about this. I always liked Votto, and I think it's cool when great players play their whole career for one team. That last year hitting .194/.288/.365 split between like the Giants and Guardians will just mar his b-ref page. But hey, good on him if that's what he wants. Play some more ball, make some more bank.

If Eppler legit resigned because of phantom IL stints, that seems like an overreaction? It's seems a common enough practice and even fans want players to get a phantom injury every now and then to rest or recalibrate

I would love having Votto on the Cubs for a year. Also he seems to have decided he's only going to hit homeruns now, 14 of them in 65 games.

Yeah I was gonna say his plate discipline and bat speed are mostly cooked and it's weird to see Votto striking out a ton but also he did the crusty old vet slugger thing where he was just cheating for one pitch and if he got it, it was gone.
