It's 2006. I am taking 276 yeti furs from the goodies hoard.
I have my gripes with World and I think the clutch claw is a poo poo mechanic even though Iceborne has some excellent fights but still can't really argue for any other games being a better series entry point. Super excited for the inevitable World 2

If it helps, I think this is fairly normal, at least for me. Despite Monster Hunter being my favo flavo, it took me awhile to actually make it to the end. Every Monster Hunter I would get a bit further: first one I played I didn't even beat low rank, next one I did beat low rank, then the next one I beat high rank, then the next I got into G rank, and finally MHW was the first time I made it all the way to total completion with Fatalis.

Is that just real footage of a steak cooking? The sizzling underneath and lighting looks more realistic than what I'd expect from game graphics but maybe it's just extreme attention to detail.

I imagine I'm going to be disappointed with the answer but I downloaded a demo a few months ago and started doing other things figuring I could get around to it at my leisure... and then the game released and nixed it entirely? Not even visible in my license activations. Probably no way to figure out what it was is there? I didn't WL the game since I figured if I liked the demo I'd know the game from that instead of putting it in my scores deep wishlist. Just frustrating and other games don't always behave this way so it had to be a decision on the creator/publisher, I don't understand it.

Go to your Steam library, Your Collections button, + Create A New Collection, give it a name and select Create Dynamic Collection, then under Play State tick the Installed Locally box. You now have a collection that shows you everything that is currently installed that can help you find a demo/playtest/beta you downloaded but no longer can be played.

I've seen it happen with several EA games where the demo was a small slice that no longer represents the current state, so they removed the ability to download and play the demo. With a dynamic collection like the above you can still view titles that have been disabled (the button will say Uninstall instead of Play) or even games that you refunded but didn't remove (it'll say Purchase).

Has anyone played Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum ? It looks like OG Deux Ex meets the "art style" of Adventure from Atari 2600

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MUEXGaxFDA&t=2461s
This video actually doesn't talk about the game but I like it better than what's actually on the store page. I've got it time-indexed to 41:01

"UwU-core deus ex with cruelty squad characteristics."
"This game lets you make it into whatever genre you thought this game was at first look"
"Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum is an amazing reminder of why indie passion projects are awesome. made by one developer, its like an UWUcore mix of cruelty squad, deus ex and quadrilateral cowboy."

Reviews look really really good, it was released to early access last october as v0.6 and as of this september they're up to v0.7.5 with a load of updates inbetween but the above quoted is the only stuff I can find about Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum here in the thread.

Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum is cyberpunk hotline miami + console mode simulator + a severe case of internet poisoning. Try the demo, its fun enough that i bought the game.

ive never noticed a demo getting straight up deleted from my library before and i am a chronic demo procrastinator. they normally just change the "play" button to a "purchase" button when the demo ends.

often times you can get around that by just launching it from the exe in the files directly even after the demo period ends.

Holy poo poo, this is incredible. Game of the Decade right there.

Edit: On the subject of food details. Monster Hunter World's is indeed top-tier. But Iceborne has it beat, not so much the delicious looking stew you get but in the kitchen there's an animation loop of a palico making bread that's memorizing. From dough to final loaf the whole thing is animated and it's so great. I just watched that little guy make bread for the longest time.

Yeah, like, I think 4U is a better game overall so far (and MonHun Freedom is WILD from a game design standpoint) but I can't imagine telling a newbie to the franchise that they need to get a 3DS when World is right there, on sale for 13$ right now, gorgeous, and easy to get into.

It also helps that as a franchise it's the kind of game where playing one game doesn't spoil it for the rest of them - you're out there learning monsters, learning your weapon, and that translates across games. The finer details of how a given weapon might change over the years but the core skills remain - great sword users need to learn positioning and patience, etc etc.

aaa the monomania is here and I fuckin' love hunting monsters!

Sorry for being late on this. Here's what looks interesting to me in October. People are already discussing Diablo IV, THPS 1 & 2 and Disgaea 7, so no need to include those. Why the big gap between now and the 12th? Well, there's a Steam Next Fest next week. So some indies are probably keeping their releases out of that initial 48 hour window.

Gargoyles Remastered (Oct 19) - I legit do not know who asked for this but here's a remake of the SNES game Gargoyles??

I might have an idea, I think the Gargoyles thing is just to drum up interest in the IP; Disney was known to have flirted with the idea of a live action movie long long ago, but a few years ago there were lots of rumors that Jordan Peele asked them if he could do a Gargoyles movie and they said no, that it's something they think is a good enough of an idea to do someday to keep it close — but imo with Star Wars and Marvel bloat I think they are flirting with it again (and other movie properties in general that arent superhero/star wars like Tron) and I can think of no other reason why that game would get a remaster other than general Disney interest in the property.

I remember it being kinda neat on the Genesis but it wouldnt have been the first old game that comes to mind to revive. Looks nice though

Monster Hunter World: they are not always online, you can play offline. It'll automatically make an "online" lobby for you but you can set this to ID only or friends only. Assuming you're on steam, it would be super easy to play together! The games are basically built around encouraging co-op play. (Though solo is also perfectly valid!)

e: to be clear if you turn off your internet and boot up Monster Hunter World it'll go "oh okay" and make an offline lobby. All content is available to you, you can just play it normally. It's cool!

You will never have to play with randos. I think in theory you can end up in a "lobby" where you'll see randos in the pre-mission hub area a la Destiny, but they won't join your missions.

Being online is still useful because the game does have a nice feature where you can say "I want to join any party that's fighting monster X RIGHT NOW" and it'll just throw you into a random team mid-mission. After the mission is over, the team splits up and you never see the players again. Even if you generally don't like playing with randos, it's still useful for those times where you're like "ugggghhhh I just need one more Nargacuga rear end for this armor set and I can't be bothered to really fight one again" because most rando 4p parties will take down any monster in about five minutes. But randos will never join you mid-mission unless you use a special signal flare that only applies for the mission you're on. You're never forced to play with them.

If you want to play through everything with a friend from the start then pick up rise, not world. World's main story puts up constant barriers to multiplayer that make it a pain to do required quests together and stay parallel, rise lets you group up for quests all the way through to the credits pretty much right after the tutorial. There is a limited set of singleplayer only "village" quests unlike the multiplayer-enabled "hub" quests that are the majority of the game, but they're basically just easymode introduction to the game and you aren't missing out by going straight to hub in multiplayer.

It is Forza, and it actually sent me down a YouTube rabbit hole that proves in Forza Horizon 5, you can literally just shave off seconds from your time by having a better gaming PC.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6doHF3nP94

Some other things are based on the framerate as well, which is why they're just limiting it in Motorsport 7.

Like I get it, simulating all that poo poo in a racing game is not an easy task, but locking the framerate is a god damned bandaid :colbert:
