The difference being that its potentialy nearly indisinguishable from reality, and kids generally don't have years of hardened photoshop skills. As always though the problem isn't the technology, it's that we raise boys to think that acting that way is acceptable.

I mean yeah, obviously, but it's not like that stops someone from doing it in photoshop either. fe: Just to clarify, I'm not defending it however it's done, just saying that maybe it's not a reason to ban AI generation.

Private Speech posted:The difference being you use a scary AI instead of adobe photoshop to do it? Firstly deepfakes aren't AI, but that's an aside. Previously creating these images took a lot of time and a certain amount of talent. It wasn't open to everyone, fakes were easy to spot. Fake celebrity nudes were pretty big for a while, and still are they an extent. With the technology where it is its become trivially easy to create pretty convincing images of anyone. There are dedicated services out there advertising that they'll create nude images of your crush. So now you have regular school children put in the position of denying it's them. It's being used to sexually harass and bully children in a way that's pretty new. You can't ban the technology, it's out there now. But people have to be aware of it so these children are not put in these terrible positions of having to deny it's them. You know how hard it is to deny something people want to believe is true. It also has to be made clear that creating and distribution of these images is not a funny prank or whatever, just because it's essy.

Private Speech posted:Not sure how that's very much different from schoolboys cut & pasting faces from photos into porn magazines, or the digital equivalent. I was at a security conference last month and got talking to an academic uses OSINT to help law enforcement track down online distributors of child sexual abuse material. At one point we talked about ML image generation. Most people who are aware of it seem to think they're fun tools, but don't realise there are models out there that people with a reasonably powerful PC can use to generate almost photo-realistic images of child abuse. Scraping Instragram and generating anatomically accurate nudes of adolescent children is a world apart from photoshopping their faces onto adult bodies.

What was it that Jeremy Corbyn supposedly did that was so antisemitic? Anything I've read about it makes it seem like some kind of recursive loop where he was being antisemitic by not responding to accusations of antisemitism seriously enough. So what started it? Straight answers only please, I'm too old and tired for goon irony layers.

Pretty much everything else is the exact same recursive loop of deliberately disingenuous nonsense you're talking about.

He foolishly shared an image of a mural which used anti-semitic tropes (and I think the artist was later revealed to be an anti-semite). He (unknowingly) made a trip to the grave of someone who was a suicide bomber in Israel (maybe getting the facts wrong there), and has also shared platforms with and referred to Hezbollah and Hamas as friends. Both organisations which can be argued as containing some anti-semitic sentiment. This is probably about the full extent of genuine 'concerning' things he has done. For what it's worth I don't believe he's anti-semitic, just not very careful about who he associates with (which is something that much of the UK left can be accused of). Plus he never expected to ever hold office or be in any senior position, so just had a history general activist stuff which was a bit edgier than polite society can handle. keep punching joe fucked around with this message at 13:58 on Oct 9, 2023 |

A lot of the former were also exaggerated heavily, like the figure in the robe being taken as given that it was mocking Jewish religious clothing, when the artist confirmed that it was actually a mockery of infamous racist edgelord dickwit and conspiracy weirdo Aleister Crowley. There were some problematic aspects to it, but there was also a full on flooding of the narrative with bullshit from the minute it could be tangentially connected to Corbyn, so a lot of what is just taken as a given about it is false.
