The CDC should be tracking kinetic energy as a public health hazard.

Drunk walking is legitimately, on a per mile basis, several times as deadly as drunk driving, for the person who is drunk, because our streets are so hostile to pedestrians.

Cycled to and from work yesterday (and today) despite it being cold and super windy, then when I got home walked to the local supermarket to pick up a few things. Felt super jazzed to just be out and moving myself where I needed to go even though I was tired as hell by the end of it, nothing like exercise and fresh air to improve your mood. If only the supermarket was possible to easily and safely approach by foot, but unfortunately it was designed with the assumption that the only way you'd be going there is starting from the carpark.

being a sufficiently drunk pedestrian probably saves lives too dumb to find where they left their car and can’t drive away drunk

the nearby development that I use as a bike path on weekdays recently installed a parking attendant's stand across their main entrance, along with a hump/speed bump on the exit side of the road so people can't just drive out of the lot at full clip I used to double-back through the lot so the whole route is on asphalt, but with the speed bump in place it makes you lose all momentum to go through it, so now I do a full circuit around the area, which means going over their unpaved back-lot. It's muddy and a bit technical and sometimes I miss my MTB and its knobby tires, but getting down in the dirt is pretty fun and I get to practice fine control of the bike at low speed
