I'm reading more of Dixon's Nightwing and it is like his Robin where the books are good when he isn't inserting his weird politics into it. I don't know how long Dixon's run lasts and I'm worried about Devin's whose run I've always heard is pretty bad.

I've never really been a fan of Grayson's work either but I don't recall it ever being 'bad' so much as just 'there.'

So: the idea that Tim is a better detective than Bruce, Cass is a better fighter than Bruce, and Dick is a better acrobat, was that ever spelled out somewhere or did I imagine that some fan theory had more credence than it did?

Note to self: This one's the good one

There was some dialogue during Tynion's Detective run where Bruce also states very blatantly he'd lose to Cass in a fight if he ever had to, and I believe he says something similar to the tune of Tim being a better detective than him there.

I remember Tom King tweeted a "fighter ranking" of the Bat family and put Cass and Dick both above Bruce as well, for whatever that's worth.

Back in Hush Batman mentions that Tim is on his way to becoming the world's greatest detective, but I don't think anyone ever says he's better than Batman. It's been stated that he's better than Bruce with computers though.

I understand that Barb "fights smarter not harder" and therefore doesn't tend to rank highly in hand to hand matchups, but her detective skills, computer skills, and overall scrappiness should give her a solidly above-average Gotham Power Ranking.

Most of the Batfamily members are implied to be better than Bruce in at least one category. Bruce's strength is that he excels in *all* of them. He doesn't have to be the specialist when he's by far the best all-arounder among them.

Anyway, the new issue of Fire & Ice is really good. This is a really fun book so far and I really dig the direction it seems to be taking.

New issue of Poison Ivy is rad too and I hope we get to see way more of the Ivy / Croc team-up.

I think with Cass at least it came from the fact she can beat Shiva, who can beat Bruce, so chain of command. Tim being a better detective sounds like something I've heard but never seen it clarified.

Bring a better detective is also a harder thing to show than being a better fighter.

I also seem to recall Tim was better at blanket 'tech stuff' than Bruce (but not strictly computer stuff as that's Babs) even if this was usurped briefly by Harper Row but nobody cares about Harper aside from Scott Snyder.

The only thing I remember about Tim's detective prowess was that iirc there's a moment in his Red Robin yummm series right before the N52 hit, Ra's Al Ghul called him "detective", which was a nice "game recognize game" show of respect for him/ his detective skills.

Buuuut then when I googled it to confirm my spotty memory, it looks like Ra's has called drat near all the Robins detective at some point so that means nothing in the long run I suppose

It all comes out right in the end.
Harper is in a weird place because she was explicitly created because of Didio's weird mandate that half the female Bat-characters were "toxic" and couldn't be used, so that when they actually came back Harper was kind of superfluous. I kind of liked that they had her retire, but then they brought her back for the Punchline stuff that I didn't read or care about.

Red Robin was much better than it should have been. I even liked the Falconesque costume, even if I thought Red Robin was a stupid name.

The parts where Tim fights like Robert Downey Jr in Sherlock Holmes was very fun. Tim being the smart one is a pretty cool thing to differentiate him.

She has a novel enough skill niche at least that she could get reincluded and not be too redundant (she'd probably fit in pretty well with Catwoman's outfit too given her background). The Bat family is a bit overloaded already though.

If this awful Gotham War nonsense wasn't happening, setting up Harper with Selina would be pretty fun. They both have common ground in being enemies with Punchline too, so hey.

Harper seems like she'd be a good fit as a supporting character in Nightwing or Titans. Move her away from Gotham, give Dick someone who can be like his own sidekick.

She could join the Batgirls as the team's on-site tech person when Babs has to QB from the tower or is otherwise too busy to be on the ground with Steph and/or Caass.

Speaking of Aquaman, there was a one-shot in the Halloween special anthology involving Lobo dressing up as Aquaman for a costume party (after dressing up as various Hugh Jackman roles as they dance around another particular character once associated with him). Yes, it's a direct reference to Jason Momoa being fancast as Lobo.
