I got mine years ago but just checked now and they're down to like $50! I get the discs with printable faces which otoh are NOT cheap (like $2 a pop):

and use a printer like this one which has an insert for printing onto cd/dvds. perfect shot every time

print a cover onto some nice paper and then bam, the total package

can't forget the interior art!

It sucks tracking the porn collection is tough. Since the apps are on iOS you can’t add adult movies (usually) it’s a big hit or miss. Some are there if they’re recognized as maybe more than porn but then stuff like the taboo series isn’t allowed.

Are you talking just the stuff that the big sites put out, or you talking about buying actually porn disks in 2023? Is this an actual thing? (Not shaming, just legit curious).

What a horrible thread to have a post.
I know it's not strictly movie physical media but somebody should make a horror movie about whoever it was that put all the porno mags in the woods in the late 70s/early 80s.

Seriously, this is, like, a universal thing. Everyone Gen X I have ever talked to who lived near a large enough nature patch that kids played in found a cache of porn mags in the woods at some point. Bizarre.

Is it like an indie horror fake documentary investigating the mysterious porn source thing, or a "and now he's back, and he's coming for his porn" thing?

I spotted some woods porn (a couple of DVDs) while on a bike ride about 3 months ago. So this is still a thing.

No, I didn't take it. It must be left for the younger generation to experience.

Was thinking more like some sort of MK Ultra/Satanic thing where anybody that read it has been Manchurian Candidated into a cult killer. Distributed via old D&D books and those porno mags.

You could make it a period piece or have a bunch of Facebook Dads meeting in the woods to sacrifice stuff modern day, that kind of thing.

I'm not very creative but I think you can get the vibe here.

I’d recommend that set too but be warned the “without smut” is pretty relative for the main feature, you’re uh… you’re still gonna see some stuff, but it’s a loving blast. It comes with three full films too and I was kinda surprised by Zebedy Colt’s “The Devil Inside Her,” which was fun and had a folk horror flair that I totally dug. Guy’s got some weird rear end long balls tho so YMMV. I love the AGFA multi-film sets.

I am so happy that this Mario movie edition exists, and with the workprint cut too which is a far superior version. $100 is steep, though. I'll need to think on it and save up a bit. Is that all-region, or do I need to wait for a US region release?

Either way, I'm absolutely going to buy this in some form. I love that movie.

Classic movie! For the record, on the workprint thing, you watched it specifically? Or was it the fan-edit called the Morton Jankel cut? I watched half of that recently with friends, it was interesting seeing them hang out in New York for what felt like a lot longer. But overall I feel like the pacing was a big downgrade. Other than the beginning New York stuff, is there later stuff that makes it a far better version? I could honestly take or leave the stuff I saw in it so far, outside of a one time curiosity watch.

And is the workprint version on this release different in notable ways from that popular fan edit? I'm not sure if notable artistic decisions were made by that fan edit or if it just tried to replicate the workprint fully etc.

The Morton-Jankel cut, and I assumed that's what the workprint cut is based on (or vice-versa) but I may not be right. I vaguely recall something to that effect when the UK BD was released.

I actually liked the extended fan cut a lot more. I'll take a pacing hit if it means a lot of the jokes and little plot details actually pay off. It's 100% worth watching until the end if just for the extended post-Koopa celebration scene.

Yep that fan edit is based on the workprint they found, but as far as editing scenes together etc I wasn't sure if they put in every extra minute or left some out for quality or pacing reasons etc. Right on, I have heard there is a rap scene. I guess if there's a file of just the workprint floating around somebody could compare the runtimes.

What are some jokes from the theatrical that don't pay off? I'm sure it's sloppier than I realize, I just hadn't ever noticed anything. For the record, we did enjoy watching that really long Ulysses version of Waterworld.

Ooh nice, I am a big Hopper fan too. I'll throw the rest of that version on. You can't go wrong with that movie either way.

I'm guessing the perfect version for me would be some half-measure edit that only keeps the most notable essential extra stuff, and is like 10 minutes longer instead of 20. Oddly enough Army of Darkness has such a thing with the International version, halfway between the runtime of US theatrical and the Director's Cut. Though every version of that rules as well.

Erin M. Fiasco

I definitely agree. There are some early scenes, such as the Marios and the Scapellis in New York, which makes sense to be cut, but then there are some establishing shots and things like Koopa devolving a henchman into slime which leads into said slime being what he slips on to fall into the devolution machine where it's like "okay why'd you do that".

The rap scene is too funny for me to want to see it cut. :allears: Glad someone else is as big on the film as I am. Can't wait to see it in full detail.

OK so the DVD works fine. I bought a VHS to test that out and it didn't go great. Every time I inserted a VHS the TV either automatically ejected it and turned off, or just turned off. Turning it back on with the tape inside and then trying to get it to play or rewind made it turn off. Eventually it ejected the tape but with the reel still somewhere in the machine's guts, so now the tape is just hanging out with no way to remove it without just yanking hard enough to tear the reel.

edit: ok I figured out how to get the tape out. At first it wouldn't let me push it back in, I guess because the reel was still in there so it thought it had a tape in it, but by turning it off and back on again it did let me push the tape back in, at which I point I heard some upsetting sounds as it worked the reels and got everything spooled back. I then pressed eject which made the TV turn off. I then turned the TV back on, and then pressed eject, and it ejected the tape, with only a little bit of the reel sticking out, which I was able to get back on the spool manually.

I gotta be honest. I don't think this TV is going to work for playing VHSs
