The whole Witness era was a disaster, but the SNL performances were the real killer.

I don't mind an unusual avant garde performance by a pop star. In fact I prefer it, playing it safe is boring! But this was just trend-chasing and sloppy.

At that point she could basically make armpit noises and she'd still be bulletproof and nothing she could do would matter anyways because what's another hundred million gonna do? CM Punk had just reclaimed the AEW World Championship in his home town of Chicago on September 4, 2022. Shortly afterwards, at the media scrum, he attacked various people who also worked for All Elite Wrestling, including the Executive Vice Presidents. Now, when I say “attacked”, I mean verbally…for the most part. After the media scrum, Punk and his friend Ace Steel got into a legitimate backstage brawl with said Executive Vice Presidents.

Now, normally that would be the moment when a wrestler’s career would be over. It wasn’t. This past June, All Elite Wrestling launched a new weekly show pretty much so CM Punk could still wrestle for AEW without running into the various wrestlers he hates so Punk’s feelings wouldn’t get hurt. Punk lasted TWO MONTHS before another backstage brawl broke out between him and the son of Luke Perry (also a wrestler), which resulted in him being fired from AEW.

Over the past 24 hours, WWE (for whom CM Punk wrestled for until another dramatic exit 10 years ago, albeit one where Punk was right) made it known they were not interested in hiring him.

She also has an exhaustive legacy of kissing, groping, and just generally sexualizing the hell out of teenagers. She did it to Sean Mendes, she did it to an American Idol contestant, she did it on a talk show.

Here's a classic example of her doing it to Bo Burnham. He handles it really well IMO but you can tell it was extremely uncomfortable.

She and Brand were really perfect for each other, can't believe it didn't work for them. Here's what she had to say when she was called out for trying to kiss a Russian talk show host without consent:

To me this comes off as saying the writers gave her scripts that were badly written. Imagine being a writer and getting your lead an Emmy nod, only to have them refuse and list the quality of your work as the sole reason for doing so. Pretty sure having an Emmy nominated script helps your career but not when the talent poo poo on it.

We demand to be taken seriously

Michael Madsen in the early 90s had a lot of heat after Reservoir Dogs & Thelma & Louise but opted to play Virgil Earp rather than Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction, & while Travolta got an Oscar nomination & a career second wind, Madsen had a whole lotta nothing until Kill Bill 2, then back to obscurity.

Especially ridiculous as the part was written for Madsen & turning it down soured his relationship with Tarantino for years, not great to do with the director who knows exactly how to use him.

In the long run I don’t think it hurt their legacy, but it probably impacted their bank account for a bit.

Michael Cimino went from Oscar winner to Razzie winner in three years due to Heaven’s Gate.

The 1980 western movie, not the 1990s UFO cult.

Prior to this, Cimino was an acclaimed film director who won Best Director and Best Picture Oscars for The Deer Hunter. His follow-up movie, Heaven’s Gate, went four times over budget due to his quirks and demands. It was also originally four hours long and featured scenes where horses were abused or, in one case, killed by explosives.

Heaven’s Gate effectively killed Cimino’s career. He only directed four more feature-length films after this.

That's good to hear. I find a lot of sneering at bands that aren't as successful as they were a little misguided (not that that's The Chick's case as they were blackballed), but I remember some people sneering at the likes of MGMT who wrote one of the last superhits I can think of, or Carly Rae Jepsen who didn't become a stadium filler, but does really well at a smaller level with more freedom. I see Devo get some one-hit-wonder flack too while they more of a going concern that had a breakout hit.
