Actually, some news relating to this: The final version of CS:GO is now available in the "betas" tab in CS2's Steam properties, forever preserved in amber because CS2 isn't coming to Mac.

It won't receive updates, official matchmaking is disabled and certain server-side functions like the inventory system might stop working after January 1st, but it's there if you and your friends want to return to that era for a few hours.

CS2 is pretty good but it crashes for me every match at basically random and there's no error messages or anything so who the gently caress knows why it happens

Speaking of insufferable gamers... What's going on with the online gaming communities?

I've spent around 15 hours playing cs2 over the last couple of weeks, and I see close to zero pro-social behavior. It's pretty different to how it was 20 years ago when I played multiplayer fps games regularly. Sure you had some toxicity but there was much more social behavior too. Back then you had persistent community servers, you had people using the text chat and sometimes voice chat. You had people organizing in clans which could be pretty decent social arenas. What I see now is that basically no one uses the text chat at all, hardly anyone have clan tags, and the only times I've heard the voice chat used at all was from some idiot Russian who was shouting in Russian to non-Russians. What is going on? Why is no one even responding when I tell them "nt" or "gg" or complimenting them on their play? The games are all very transient, quiet, and shallow in the sense that you use match-making rather than private servers, play a game and never see anyone there again. It's not entirely dissimilar from playing bots.

Yeah, my friends and I are super excited any time we head someone else talk in voice. The other night we made a joke about a guy failing a clutch because he couldn't find the bomb in smoke and he went off angrily in voice chat. This is the first thing he said in 10 rounds.

I played csgo on my MacBook a couple times and it’s pretty bad. Was also using my airpods for sound, and I found out Bluetooth audio without a dongle either is like 50+ms delayed and you can’t use voice, or it’s mono and sounds like a tin can

Coming back to CSGO and now CS2 is a breath of fresh air. I'd say 98% of mic talkers I've interacted with are friendly and cool.

I, however, despise 2 stacking in premier and having the other 3 solo qs all self-mute themselves and never talk. Makes for extremely annoying games.

Have to find a group of friends or goons to play with, goonmans have been a real game charger for me. I had not touched the game in 7-8 years and my first week back every game was identical to yours. Spent the last 3 weeks playing with goons and it's been a ton of fun doing private matches and joining MM in a 5 stack that communicates and no one (mostly) gets mad when they lose a round or someone messes up. It's also nice to have people give good criticism while relearning the game.

I messed with my settings this weekend, and discovered that setting the game to 'fullscreen' makes it perform a lot better. No longer getting as many people popping out and shooting me before I see them, nor am I getting the died behind a wall issue as much. Eventually I'll mess with mouse settings and maybe buy a GAMER MOUSE to really stepup my bottom of the barrel playing.

Personally I'd love to only ever queue with other solo players. I despise playing with three stacks that are clearly all just talking in discord or whatever.

Yeah it really sucks. We always use in game voice if it’s not a full stack but most people do not give a poo poo

It's also wide open to abuse. I don't know if this is just in casual mode, but there you can spectate both teams when you're dead and see where everyone is with x-ray. I believe it's called 'ghosting' when you give your voice chat buddy the locations of the enemies.

Just having at least one other person with you to go into the MM queue is great. There've been occasions when randoms tried to start poo poo in voice chat and the other person I was queued with helped shut that poo poo down. They also can't votekick you since they won't have enough votes with 3.

The server browser kinda works now so I tried a community server in a nearby location. People actually used voice chat there. :woop:

They were pretty good players though, which reminded me I still suck at the game.

Where do I get one of those training maps and how do I populate it with bots who stand still? I need to learn a counter-strafing habit. I know I should do it, but I don't actually do it.

I'm getting a lot of stuttering at the start of matches. After the loading screen I might get the last second of warmup, then freeze and miss the player intro bit and being at the game start.

Once people start shooting in the first round or two I freeze again, it's like playing with big random lag spikes for the first 3-4 rounds. Not sure what patch did it though

I probably only get toxic teammates 1 in every 10 competitive games. Maybe you keep getting toxic teammates you might have a low trust factor? Casual is more vocal so there is way more poo poo talking.

If you have an AMD graphics card there was a new driver released a few days ago that apparently fixed this.

Yeah, it does kinda suck because the game relies so much on good comms. That said, I queue with friend stacks of 3-4 where we are talking on discord separately all the time. I do insist that we mute each other in game and use push-to-talk to relay important information to everyone though.

Premiere has been pretty fun for the most part. I've had a decent amount of matches (at poo poo elo) where everybody was having fun and communicating.

It seems like it's either that or dead silence with one guy calling everyone a shitter while also being a shitter.

I have had a few friends say that the UMP45 feels a lot better now, although it didn't work out for me. I will have to give a Nova a go though. At least it is very cheap compared to the alternatives.

There's been no change to weapons stats or logic, the whole shooting mechanic has just been ground up reimplemented underneath so all guns feel better across the board because they now function as intended
