Leafs off to a hot start but Max Domi’s homecoming isn’t going so great, he was benched after a giveaway in the third period of game 1 and tonight he was demoted to the third line after a pretty bad second period. Keefe has turned on FA signings pretty quickly in the past, even ones making decent money.

Zach Benson is electric and fun to watch and is going to stay in the NHL at 18. I’m not going to pretend he’s better than Bedard, but he’s going to give Bedard a race. Devon Levi is a good goalie and most goals against him really are a bunch of dumb luck. Clifton has been relegated to third pairing and was on ice for all three goals against; one of which he literally kicked into the net himself. How the hell did Boston win with this guy? He single handily tanked this game while only playing 16 minutes.

I loved the first intermission bit where Bieksa claimed that Nylander’s first goal wasn’t a move he would have made last year without the “toughness” around the team, then the broadcast immediately showed a clip from last year of Willy scoring the exact same goal against the Wild in OT. Reaves seems like he'd be a fun dude to have in the role they wanted guys like Simmonds/Clifford for. Dude that plays like once a week or if the team is in a funk and needs some good vibes and then goes back to being a cheerleader the rest of the time. I guess Keefe 4th liner is about the same with like 3 minutes of non-garbage ice time.

Reaves is absolutely the guy Dubas thought he was adding with Simmonds/Clifford in years past. The issue is that Reaves makes enough to actually limit the Leafs roster slots so there’s no real opportunity to bench him. Keefe loves playing guys like that though, as evidenced by several lost playoff series, so the salary issue is kind of moot.
