British propaganda to disguise the fact that the mutiny was caused mostly by the Doctrine of Lapse Dalhousie put into effect, that would annex any Indian princely state that did not have a male heir. the cartridges were made of beeswax.

The story you're repeating is accurate, as in what has often been described as the cause of the Sepoy Mutiny, but both the initial flashpoint in Meerut and the follow on actions that would comprise the rebellion were the result of a long list of frictions and grievances that relate to material conditions, the mistreatment at the hand of the East India Company, grievances about taxes. You know, the kind of stuff people actual revolt about. The idea that the revolt started because of some bullets always struck me as racist bullshit, especially since there are sources that reference officers a) telling the soldiers that it was not true, b) allowing them to make new cartridges that used something else like ghee to provide waterproofing, and c) suggestions to adapt the manual of arms to longer require "biting" the cartridge.

The Commission of Prisoners' Affairs:

October 15, 2023

We denounce the ferocious and frenzied arrest campaign launched by the occupation forces last night and in the early hours of this morning against the Palestinian people in the various governorates of the country.

The commission said: "The arrest campaign launched by the occupation authorities affected approximately 60 citizens who were arrested during a raid on cities, villages, camps, where the prisoners were subject to assault, (by beating or rifle butts), tear gas, sound bombs, as well as rubber and live ammunition."

The cases of abductions in the West Bank and Al-Quds since the beginning of Al-Aqsa Flood Battle on October 7, 2023, have exceeded 500, in addition to dozens of abductions in southern governorates, (no confirmed numbers due to the occupation's blackout and prevention of lawyers from reaching the detainees).

The commission confirmed that the barbaric abduction campaign carried out by the occupation authorities against the Palestinian people are part of the policy of collective punishment and warns against the continuation of this policy, which is implemented to coverup its security and political failures.

🟢 Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem:

The criminal zionist occupation has killed more than a thousand children in its ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip, in a Nazi behavior and a full-fledged war crime, which requires a clear stance from all international institutions.

The countries that provide support to the occupation in its aggression are complicit in the killing of children, women and civilians.

All countries, entities, and international institutions must adhere to the values and principles they proclaim, and clearly condemn this ongoing, blatant, and continuous killing of children in Gaza.

Resistance News Network posted:

🚨 Gaza Strip is witnessing the most intense bombardment by US-funded warplanes since the onset of the battle. Hundreds of continuous raids have been going on for hours.

These raids are focused on Al-Shifa Hospital, Al-Quds Hospital, Sheikh Radwan, Karama, Tal Al-Hawa, Al-Nuseirat Camp, and Khan Younis.

Moments ago, the IOF bombed a civil defense crew on Al-Jalaa Street in Gaza as they were on their way to the destroyed sites to rescue the wounded; four of the rescue workers were martyred.

The severity of the bombings is stopping ambulances from reaching the injured and returning to the hospital, according to the Red Crescent. Hospitals' backup generators have enough fuel for only 24 hours.

Thousands more have been displaced and dozens martyred as the IOF tried to inflict damage before the Rafah crossing is supposedly set to open to allow entry of aid in seven hours.

There does seem to be a stand off at the moment. Israel has continually delayed ground operations, in part due to "weather," but it very well may be they are waiting for the Eisenhower to arrive while Hezbollah made it clear they are involved, they haven't fully committed. In addition, it seems like Iranian and pro-Iranian forces are starting to arrive in Syria.

Netanyahu has promised a lot at this point but I think there are clearly some worries about having to get into urban combat while potentially fighting on 3 other fronts.

It is going to take 2 months+ for the Carl Vinson to make it to the Persian Gulf, so I don't know if that is going to be major factor. It very well may be staying in the Pacific to shore up operations.

It is pretty unpredictable how this is going to go. I could see the US on the dl trying to throw water on the whole thing because it potentially could be a massive regional conflict.

Also I'm sure one of the professional history knowers can add details, but while the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 was a big loving deal, there had been multiple other events of a smaller scale that would have tipped off the East India Company that these guys were ready to explode, but they did gently caress all to address the concerns and then afterwards in order to avoid any self reflection they just concluded it was caused by some stupid superficial bullshit.

by that time the east india company was also hiring younger european officers who were more openly contemptuous of native customs and missionary zeal was spreading - older mughalboos were being pushed out - especially in the lower ranks.

Coincidentally the royal indian navy mutiny also happened because of worsening fiscal compensation worse food etc that the leadership wasn't interested in nipping in the bud.

im also getting more mainstream news updates with calls for humanitarian intervention, which is noticeable step back from the outright genocidal tone earlier this week. it seems true to form that the situation would settle into a new, shittier, more brutal status quo, but I don’t think it can hold. there’s just too much in motion
