There was a brief mention in the Conover interview about Chinese gangs in Cambodia basically forcing trafficked guest workers to work in their international catfishing facilities. I remember reading an interview with the chief of police in an article about it, and he mentioned that he will not give any leniency to escapees, because they were breaking the law.

Yeah that head cop was absolutely in with the gangs, the Cambodian police are basically being used as muscle to help trap the trafficking victims in that facility.

SEAsia seems to be a hotbed of these kinds of schemes, both scams with old fashioned money, as well as newer ones featuring cryptocurrency tech to fuel the scams (see Axie Infinity)
