Apparently it's based on a more recent Kong IP:

The property is endorsed by and published by license through the estate of Merian C. Cooper, Kong's original creator.

What situation prompted the letter? I tried it, and after initiating a bot ban, apparently the bot ban was taken literally and included weather/emergency service bots, rather than being limited to astroturfing, but it wouldn't let me ban only astroturfing bots. When users started complaining about the loss of emergency services, the options were keep the ban, have an approval process and whitelist for bots, or lift the ban.

https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/256976229/movie480_vp9.webm?t=1697469318

I suspect a lot of people might overlook it because its published by Playway (publishers of all kinds of shovelware), but it has been in Early Access and active development for about three years now and I think it's actually quite good. It's a first-person farming/life sim that also has hunting, fishing, cooking, booze distilling, animal husbandry, building structures, and marriage. You start out having to till and raise crops by hand but can upgrade to a tractor with attachments like a three row till, a seeder, a manure spreader, and a digger.

There's a bunch of NPCs who have quests for you and a "main quest" storyline that involves getting your life back together. This game has one of the most depressing tutorials I've ever seen, by the way. It's 1955 and Kasimir (the player character) has come back from the war to find out that both of his parents died and he's inherited their farm. Depressed and lonely, alcoholism gets the better of him, and over the course of the tutorial you sell your tools for booze, have the animals run away after the barn catches on fire during a storm, and let the farm fall into disrepair. You take over at the start of the real game when Kasimir decides to get his life back together. You start with just a few chickens, your prize pig and best friend Fluffy, and a run-down farm.

I posted some tips about it over in the Niche Simulators thread: https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3793583&pagenumber=54#post535396627

On launch sale for $15.99, Very Positive rating with over a thousand reviews.

From reading the description and reviews, it seems like balancing recovery from alcohol abuse with other factors is a mechanic. How is it handled? Is it a bar that fills up due to maluses from other activities like sanity in some horror games or is it more nuanced? I've never seen recovery from substance abuse disorder as a principal mechanic in a game and I think it could either be really well done or be so abstracted that it's just another need to manage.

One of your early quests is to overcome Kasimir's alcoholism and you basically have to just wait out his alcohol withdrawal, during which his carrying strength and movement speed are reduced and he will grumble incessantly about how much he wants some booze. This is annoying but won't last forever, it eventually goes away if you just make him quit cold turkey. I think you can also taper him off with softer stuff like beer and warming tea (made from tea, sugar, and vodka at stove, it's also good if you catch a cold), but I've always just waited it out. Like real alcoholism, it's never really beaten and if you drink too much he'll go back into this state, so you have be careful about it.

There's a few quests or things that require Kasimir to drink to complete them (the drunk guy in town wants you to show him you can get wasted, the sawmill guys want you to fish with a grenade which Kasimir won't do unless he's drunk). For the most part it's not much of a factor past the first few hours since there's not much reason to drink alcohol beyond the warming tea, which is used more just for keeping warm or from getting sick.

Kasmir also has something like a good/evil meter. There's two game modes, one of which has you have a limited lifespan and apparently you live longer if you live a good life (which I assume means not drinking/fighting/etc much and fixing up the farm), and another that has an unlimited lifespan. I've always played the unlimited mode so I haven't worried about it much.
