Back to The Lazarus Project because I went back to scrub through the first episode after recommending it to a friend to figure how long he should watch before deciding whether to stick with it (15m but you'll know before then). There is a moment shortly after the 15m mark of the first episode where a character describes player one as a member of "point naught naught naught naught naught one percent of the world's population" and wow I'd rather you'd said "zed" or something because it is too intensely British. I did already warn said friend in advance that it's Intensely British Also 0.000001% of the world's population is roughly 78 people, so the math is fine.

Oh yeah, I wanted to thank you! After your previous post I looked it up, decided it was interesting enough to give a shot and proceeded to binge it over a couple of days. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the second season. I haven't noticed anything irritating enough to stand out and post about because as with all time travel stories I just switch off my brain and go along with the ride, and it's excellent for that.

I was at Hazelden with Chevy Chase in 2016. He was in my unit and in my therapy small group. I can't say we're friends, and I doubt he'd remember me but it turns out I know CC better than most people. He's a major league rear end in a top hat to everybody but he's also 100% damaged goods. When nobody in your life ever tells you "No" he's what you get. Fundamentally he's a good person, or at least he wants to be, but he can't quite make it work. It's easier for him to get negative attention so that's what he rolls with. It's all an act that unfortunately has taken over his whole being. Watching through Community was crazy, since he's absolutely Pierce in real life all the time. Or at least he was for the 28 days i spent with him.

Not too far off. I don't think CC ever got to quite Bojack's level but it's not a bad comparison. CC's slide was more pathetic and sad than pathetic and disgusting. Man, Bojack was a helluva watch a couple years after rehab.

Probably likely an inspiration for him. Like the entire core premise of the show is how fame, wealth and celebrity gently caress with your head and encourage all the worst behaviours. Even a lot of the apparently well-adjusted types have clearly been selectively oblivious to a lot of awful poo poo at best if you look closely.

Chase always grated on me (and I haven't seen much of his work because of that reason and because I'm not American so a lot of the classics he's known for weren't really a thing here) and this conversation clarified somewhat as to why: he seems the type of actor that doesn't really act all that much, personality wise. In his case he's an rear end in a top hat and it just permeates everything he does. With some actors I'm fine with it because maybe their personality is pleasant or unique enough for it not to be grating but often it's just too much. I really hate most Adam Sandler movies for the same reason, but there's some gems (lol) where he really surprised me. Like I totally get why a lot of people dislike Ryan Reynolds because he's just himself most of the time, but I don't mind because the roles he picks suit that personality. Same with The Rock, and a ton of others. I'm not saying they're bad actors, because a lot of them do perfectly fine, it's just that the characters they play are too much like themselves and it becomes samey.

I grew up watching Chevy Chase on SNL reruns on Nick At Nite. I thought he was pretty funny then, and to this day I find it fascinating his bumbling rendition of Gerald Ford completely tarnished the former president's actual prowess (Ford was a talented high school & collegiate football star)

The Accountant is such a dumb movie. It constantly whiplashes between scenes of intense drama and then Anna Kendrick being duh duhh duh whaaaaat omg whaat Why does Ben Affleck's character have like a superhuman skill with guns? Answer: Years and years of abuse, trauma and training that we see throughout the film in flashbacks Why does Ben Affleck's character have like a superhuman skill with numbers? Answer: lol just your normal autism superpowers e: as a person with autism with a lot of the baggage and not so much the superpowers I get real fuckin fed up with the autistic savant trope. credburn has a new favorite as of 16:38 on Oct 19, 2023 |

And the movie's overall take on that seems to be "this is cool and good because look how much of a badass Ben Affleck turned out to be".

Chevy Chase decided early on that the best way to be funny is to act like you don't give a poo poo and nothing bothers you. Unless he was really interested in the role (Clark Griswold, Fletch) he would just no-sell anything else happening on screen. Look at the way he no-sells the insanity in Nothing But Trouble.

There's a scene in an episode of Community where someone, I forget who, is reaching across a table to shake Chevy Chase's hand and he sort of moves his hand to avoid the handshake while looking insane and it's just absolutely destroys me. Not relevant to the discussion but I remembered it and Had to Post.

I don't understand other than the usual "sex sells!?!?" bullshit but why most sex scenes are so badly done in TV and movies. Like, I don't need a cutaway every time, but I also don't need to see the couple slamming away and acting like they're going to devour the other person when kissing.

This actually bugs me anytime regeneration is involved after someone has been stabbed/shot/whatever, is that at the end of the scene their clothes are fine, the blood is all gone (even worse when it gets sucked back into the wound in some animation). I want to see a regenerating person whose clothes are just routinely torn to poo poo and they're annoyed about it. I mean, more often - I'm certain I've seen scenes where that's happened.
