I watched several videos of hers that seemed ok but than she made a video about Carvana that seemed to just be a personal issue that her sister? had with the company and then she was full of poo poo in the 4 Loko video that exaggerated the harm potential of the drink.

This one was a gutpunch when it came out that he'd been grooming multiple teenage fans, usually beginning at age 11 or 12. I was a fan of his for years; he was one of the very first YT accounts I subscribed to when I set up an account. I loved watching his playthroughs and Twitch streams where he'd play multiplayer games with his 'friends', a lot of whom it unfortunately turned out he'd been blackmailing to stay on the streams as their main source of revenue whenever they declared they were going to go public with allegations made against him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4E5B0-8q2E

I'll never understand youtuber / streamer capacity for having a sweet gig making videos for a living and they tank it by grooming kids, saying racist poo poo, or just engaging in general assholery. For real just make videos, take the money, and shut the hell up.

Falling into a youtube/streamer gig isn't always a result of your professionalism and ability, it's a crapshoot that rewards people who can play games nonstop while pretending to be entertained by group chat, and it is often the first 'job' people have after they graduate primary school. It's ludicrously profitable, easy, and lazy. Not sure where the experience or wisdom to act like a decent member of society would be coming from, exactly.

There are basically only two rules for the tenured faculty in universities for not to get kicked out: 1) teaching events are given on the agreed topic, at the announced time, and while sober, and 2) do not have sex with the students, or someone you are manager or supervisor of. It is unbelievable how large % of well-educated people fail to follow these rules.

don’t announce in the classroom that you are in an open relationship with your older husband you married for money, that he doesn’t know but it’s happening anyway, and that you are taking auditions for partners in your office after class, and then don’t heavily favor those you chose to apparently sleep with, making entire class sessions a display of your favorite side-piece’s coursework as if hosts on a talk show (true story)

Older UK goons will wonder why Gerald Ratner hasn’t been mentioned yet. He had a chain of 2000 jewelley shops in the UK, had about 50% of the market in 1992. Then he does a conference speech to investors/after dinner speech, and he “jokes” how the stuff they sell is “crap”. He tanked the value of the company overnight, and had to sell his £1B of shares for pretty much nothing to pay back investors. One speech that was too honest and he lost a billy, it’s been 30 years and a quick search says he’s finally making a bit of a comeback, but in 1992 he was the poster boy for career suicide.

So this less of a celebrity and more of a small company making GBS threads where they eat. Film as in film based photography has been making a comeback. Because of how small the industry is there are fewer and fewer different types of film compared to 20 years ago. Even through most movie production has moved to digital there is still more film made for movie cameras than there is for still photography. Movie film is slightly different than film for stills. It has an extra layer called REMJET that requires an extra step to remove when processing ECN2 vs C-41. If you send ECN2 film to a normal photo lab it will make a mess of the C41 chemicals they use. So people figured out that you can buy tails from the movie industry remove this layer ahead of time repackage it as still film and sell it as a premium product. Removing the REMJET gives the film some interesting qualities as it functions as an antihalation layer so film treated like this gets bright and colourful halos around bright sources of light. Cinestill is a company that does this. They popularized it and got big enough that they could order in bulk from Kodak without them applying the REMJET in the first place. They have been quite successful at this and have become well known in the small world of film photography. As they have succeeded others have started to do the same thing and sell film treated in this way. So what did they do with this success? Well they trademarked the description (800T) and then started sending out letters to small scale shops and eBay sellers. Imagine you or sidegig is selling film on eBay out of your bedroom and you get a copyright strike for selling loving photographic film in 2023. Needless to say the community didn’t appreciate this even though Cinestill has a legitimate trademark. They didn’t go after the competition directly and instead went after the small time dealers. They have tried to walk back and say that they are not threatening anyone but it just reeks of them getting terrible legal advice. A bunch of stores have simply stopped carrying their products and their Instagram comments are a bloodbath. Basically a lesson in not making GBS threads where you eat.

The man basically, from something I heard, thought being in a series of semi popular fast food ads gave him carte blanche to do whatever he wanted. Including rape kids. That bubble makes the average person stupid and selfish if they don't actively fight it, and it makes those who are already bad that much worse.
