You know where you are? You're in the suburbs, baby. You're gonna drive.

From: Coronel de aviación Maria Merino Lopez, Commander, Regimiento de Artillería Antiaérea y Fuerzas Especiales, Fuerza Aérea de Chile
To: General de aviación Daniela Figueroa Scholz, Commander, SCAD

I am happy to report that the movement of our SOF troops to the Nuevo Chaitén Airfield is a success.

The flight was relatively uneventful, though the landing was a tad rough and I needed every inch of the runway to stop the plane. That short-field performance package that Boeing installed at the factory worked wonders in that regard.

PS: Capitan Menendez "accidentally" showed me how big he was. (I showed him I was bigger.)

Panther 2

F-16A - Yooper & Merlin

Took off and moved to WP3, did an orbit and went in for a CCIP run on shipping. One bomb hit on the northern group, and a second bomb hit from Merlin on a 2nd ship. Something killed both of us, my Tacview is borked, and my Track File just shows me blowing up. So not sure what happened.

What should I have done

Pre-Flared when we went in and got low to CCIP the ships. Also should have checked in with Venom and waited on SEAD before we went over the HQ-7's. Should have dropped both MK82's on one ship instead of being greedy and trying for two.

Take off fender bender from our escort.

Sunrise.

Merlin in formation.

Punta Arenas before our orbit.

HQ-7 fire going in that we never saw.

First strike on the northern group.

Solid miss on my 2nd drop.

Then my annihilation. Still not sure what got me.

Quick intelligence update on what happened.

Some of this is still open to adjudication so I'm open to hear it if you wish to dispute. Lets analyze targeted areas one by one.

-------------------

Almirante Schröders Airport near town of Esmeralda, serving as a PLAN island hop to fly cargo planes into.
Springfield 1 did an OCA strike there.

Result: Partial Success

Runway 04 is thoroughly hosed with Durandals and you don't repair that just in a moment. However, the other runway remains useable with slight modification, allowing sporadic An-26 resupply flights continue, albeit with lesser tempo. A few cargo planes were also destroyed on the ground.

----------------------

Porvenir Airport SA-11 site.

Result: Total success

Last week, the Search Radar was destroyed by the lonesome Chevy 1-1. This week Venom flight destroyed the two TELARs. That site is done for for the time being.

-----------------------

Silkworm site that PLAN was setting up on Isla Carlos to dominate one of the fjords as an advanced force. Some LSTs had already gotten there during last week, but the site was not detected until it fired on CNS Aspirante Isanza that had to retreat.
Nevertheless, the South American Combined Armada tasked the Argentine navy jets off of the ARA Veinticinco de Mayo to attack the site.

Result: Total success

The site has a few missiles remaining but every human in the site is killed, the radar was destroyed, and the hasty supply spots were bombed. PLAN has no effective way to reinforce that island even right now.

In addition, PLAN had sent a submarine to interdict the precious shipping channel. The boat also was intending to lay a SF team to the island of Isla Carlos III, spending some few moments surfaced. During this moment, Tenente Jerik from the Argentine Navy attacked the sub with rockets with his A-4.

This submarine ain't interdicting poo poo.

------------------------------

PLAN River crossing near Olga Sofia and Puerto Zenteno was a partial success, as Uzi Flights F-5s struggled to find it initially, then only managed a few attack runs on it. While the rockets were fairly precise and slowed the attack down, the lack of other damage to nearby troops and especially the enemy armor attack on Highway 9 never materializing, the already battered Chilean Brigade has now initiated a full retreat.

--------------------------------

At the port of Punta Arenas, PLAN intended to deploy three brigades worth of troops. Each had their own sealift group assigned to it.

The main supplies and vehicles of those brigades were each on a large bulk transporter, and Panther 2 flight did hit two of the large ships as evident above. Seems like one hit is plenty to cause the ship to sink, and other one causing such significant damage it will severely delay the ship being able to offload its cargo, the Punta Arenas Axis of Attack will see as a result:

1x PLAGF Brigade joining the battle as soon as they organize in the port.
1x PLAGF Brigade joining the battle in a day or two as its offloading is delayed by the severely damaged ship and supply ships around it.
1x PLAGF Brigade losing most of its equipment and becoming a reinforced company as the main ship sunk into the harbor.

I understand the Operation Overture is going to be an OP regardless of what I say, and I know it was covered by the post suggesting the plan, but I have a feeling that if that spec ops team takes that radar it's going to be bombed a lot sooner than a "day or two". Either from one of those frigates or a flight of the remaining J7s. Hope we aren't trading those special troops for nothing : (

This is Group Leader of Bravo 2 for tomorrow's Operation Overture.

Above overflight photo was obtained to be used as a visual tool to assist the teams in finding the right place to land.

The C-130 is travelling at 10,000 feet of altitude during the drop. Once green light hits for "go"-signal to jump, you will exit the aircraft. On your screen you'll see your wrist watch compass. Orient yourself towards north, and add small forward momentum.

Once you are at roughly 1000-1500 feet, seeing what you see in this intel photo, open your parachute. Aim to land as close to the empty supply depot marked here that we will be using as a regroup point.

We've actually done really well in the fjords with the Navy there. Between the PLAAF J-7's(Mig-21's) getting pretty heavily attrited during the package today, and our Navy doing so well with clearing the PLA landing ships and their Anti-ship missile battery, we may be in a position to hold the Radar for a little while. At the very least, we'll get some useful intel from it, and we can demo it as the SOF pulls back to the Navy if the worst happens. Denying it's use from the PLA is really the most important part. If we can't capture it, we should at least blow it up.

Regardless, now that the Western front has effectively collapsed, I don't see how the Tierra Del Fuego bulge is going to be able to hold out long term. That wide open space past the corridor is not going to be held by two brigades. The logistical line there is already thin-pressure from the other side combined with the fact that thousands of men and their equipment have to cross on a single ferry, or maybe some other craft tells me that we should pull back from that angle like, NOW. Because if we wait until they're bearing down on that ferry point on the northern side of the crossing, it'll be far too late.

Edit: We're actually lucky that some damage was done to that amphibious crossing. If they had come off unmolested, they could've come down the highway and rush East without much ado.

Alright, listen up.

VENOM is tasked with SEAD/DEAD on three separate targets: SA-11 at Punta Arenas (SP 5), SA-11 at Porvenir (SP 6), and HB-7 at Esmeralda (SP 7).

Loadout: 2x AIM120, 2x AIM9, 2x AGM-88, 4x GBU-38, Centerline Tank

Attack Plan
  • Element 1 and Element 2 will split at IP and SEAD/DEAD the Buks at 5 and 6 simultaneously, then proceed independently to SEAD the HB-7 at 7.
  • Once Winchester, provide TARCAP until Bingo then egress.
  • Use TGP to identify SAM position and launch 1 HARM at a time in POS mode at emitting threats until the threat turns off. HAS should ideally be used only as an emergency mode.
  • Once SA-11s are suppressed, hit the launchers with JDAM
  • Once all the Buk launchers are destroyed, proceed to suppress HB-7s.

For ease of ABM coordination, the second element will be VENOM 2-1 and VENOM 2-2.

VENOM 1-1 | wonkotron
VENOM 1-2 | Bear
VENOM 2-1 | radintorov
VENOM 2-2 | Zeph

Remember:
  • Once your target is suppressed, report to CONDOR so strikers can proceed while you DEAD.
  • This is a long flight, conserve fuel and limit burner use to emergencies only.
  • Plan for a minimum of 1500 lbs fuel to egress and divert (BINGO). Plan for a minimum of 3500 lbs to egress and RTB (JOKER).
  • Fuel state between JOKER and BINGO will require either AAR or divert and refuel to RTB.

Any questions?

Excellent work today, Venom. SEAD/DEAD at Punta Arenas and Porvenir was successful. Continuing to Esmeralda was not possible. Stellar performance on emergency TARCAP with 7 confirmed kills, and kudos for dogfighting with A2G ordinance onboard and reattacking the primary mission when able. Also, we all got home safe to fight another day which is the most important result.

BDA
Degraded HQ-7 at Punta Arenas and SA-11 at Porvenir. Destroyed 7x J-7G.

VENOM 1-1 | Wonkotron
  • 2x HQ-7 LN (destroyed) [GBU-38] [Punta Arenas]

VENOM 1-2 | Bear
  • 1x HQ-7 LN (destroyed) [GBU-38] [Punta Arenas]
  • 3x airbase facilities buildings (presumed destroyed, more intel necessary to identify type of structure and extent of damage) [GBU-38] [Punta Arenas]
  • 1x J-7G (destroyed) [Guns]

VENOM 2-1 | Radintorov
  • 2x SA-11 TELAR (destroyed) [GBU-38] [Porvenir]
  • 4x J-7G (destroyed) [AIM-120C, AIM-9M]
  • 1x HQ-7 STR (destroyed) [AGM-88] [Punta Arenas]
  • 1x Ural 4320 (destroyed) [AGM-88] [Punta Arenas]
  • 2x ZBD-04A (destroyed) [GBU-38] [Porvenir]

VENOM 2-2 | Zeph1rum
  • 1x Bofors 40 (damaged) [GBU-38] [Porvenir]
  • 2x J-7G (destroyed) [AIM-120]

Lessons Learned
Mission complexity was too high and we were ill-equipped and unprepared for retasking to CAP. Despite this we were able to pivot well, but our future mission planning must adapt to what we experienced in today's overall operational failure.

Call your families, mourn your friends, and get some rest. We have to keep the pressure on.

See you tomorrow.

Unfortunately, given the turn of events, I fear your assessment is on the mark. The problem is, that RORO ferry does not have the capacity to move the armored brigade across the strait in a timely manner, no way no how. It can maybe move 10-12 armored vehicles at a time, every ~2-3 hours. We have something on the order of 250 armored vehicles, plus all of their support vehicles and supply units. If we pull back to the ferry for an attempted crossing, you can bet the PLA ground forces will rush forward as we fall back. So unless we sacrifice one regiment of the brigade to hold the line on HWY 257 while the other two attempt to escape(and hope the downed bridges delay the second PLA brigade to the West Long enough), we're not getting them off the island, at least with their armored vehicles.

Does anyone have ideas for getting this brigade off Tierra Del Fuego? Does anyone think we should try and hold out there as long as they can, possibly until they have to surrender? Do we have them abandon the armor, and at least get the manpower and limited specialized vehicles across the strait? Any out of the box ideas?

[OOC: if you do some googling and can find details of some shipping vessels that would be nearby, or more ferries north of here within a day or three's travel that would've been there around 2010, or some other logistics assets or approaches we're overlooking, then post it! If the GM thinks it congruent with the setting and reasonable, he's likely to let it happen]

By road... It's ~2300km to Bolsa de Tenancia(south of Rio Galagos). And armored vehicles can't just drive that distance on the roads, or they'd wear themselves out, they need to be loaded on heavy haul trailers(common for use in carrying heavy construction equipment around, so they're available) and brought as close as practicable and unloaded. Or they could be transported by rail... But the railways were left to rot and were privatized, so we have limited options there. The furthest south our rail network reaches on the East coast is the deep water port terminal near the town of San Antonio Oeste along the General Roca Railway line, which does shave 800 km of road travel off near congested highways close to Buenos Aires, but the remaining 1500km to Rio Gallagos will have to be made by either heavy haul truck, or heavy sealift.

Tl;dr, I don't see them getting here for another 4 days at least, unless I'm way off the mark. I am open to feedback and suggestions here.

Pontiac 1, AAR - Campaign Day 2

Pontiac 1 flight, comprised of two Mirage 2000Cs, took off from home base at Rio Turbio as the sun rose in front of us. Pontiac 2's flight of three Mirages followed closely behind.

We proceeded to our Waypoint 1 at 30'000ft for intercept tasking, and were quickly called onto a pair of enemy J-7s moving onto our strikers low and fast. We engaged first with our 530D SARH missiles, Pontiac 1-1 scored a hit but the second bogey was able to evade Pontiac 1-2s missile - fortunately she was able to quickly swing around behind the enemy, and downed him with a Magic II before he could escape or fire back.

We began our climb back to cruising altitude but were quickly vectored into a trio of J-7s approaching fast from bearing 180. We turned on, but in our haste our flight separated. Pontiac 1-1 successfully engaged one J-7 with his second Super 530D, while Pontiac 1-2 attempted to get a lock she was hit by a SAM launched from the nearby PLA fleet. The same fleet launched at Pontiac 1-1 who went defensive, and managed to evade. He fired a first Magic II which missed, then realised he was in the mix at low-alt with two J-7s. Fortunately, Pontiac 1-1 was able to splash one bandit with his last missile and finish the final bogey with guns during an intense dogfight.

The aforesaid dogfight severely depleted Pontiac 1-1s fuel, and he was forced to land on a highway on the friendly side of the front-lines, some 100 miles south of Rio Turbio. The plane is in good order and can be recovered, and if refueled should be able to take off from the highway and RTB.

Who's got the lead in kills so far? It looks like Prawned had 3 kills in that last sortie, including a hot dang gun kill! (it still counts as a gun kill if the enemy succumbs to the damage a few minutes later, right?) Any aces yet?

Also, how's the overall air war looking, it seems like the strike craft are taking it on the chin while the air superiority craft are doing pretty well.

Questions for someone smarter than me:

What are the anti-ship missile capabilities of the A4? Can we ripple off a large salvo at these lone frigates and destroyers and overwhelm their defenses?

Do we have any aircraft that can buddy tank?

Can/Do we order the "last" units at Franco Bianco to blow the runway before surrendering or retreating?

Are there any natural defensive barriers between the collapsed western front and either Rio Gallagos or the Puerto Natales area?

I want to have a new role, intelligence officer, who does not make operational decisions, but collects intel from pilots after the mission, even by reading AARs etc, and has the right to _EDIT_ the google map to add various drawings and layers on it to aid the other players and planners.

You also can message the game master in a secret channel in Discord where you get Out-of-Character answers to questions in most cases. Essentially we need someone to synthetize information and compare intel. Right now lot of plans are made, and commanders have a limited view on situations.

You don't need DCS or any flight sim equipment, but a passing familiarity with modern warfare helps, as does ability to now what weapons generally do and what the types mean. You could play this role completely with only using the forums, some drawing tools, the google map, and discord.

Volunteer here, or hit me up in Discord.
I'm only allowing someone who does not fly and is not a planner for this role, and I'd prefer someone who isn't a regular air goon.

I want someone to step forward!

It *could* be, but naval transport via civilian vessels is pretty slow. Something like 30-40 km/hr. Whereas the semi trucks can push down the highway from the rail terminal at ~100km an hour.

Trip Report: Sergeant Gonzalez, Marksman of Mountain Troop, Lautaro Special Ops Brigade.

I was tasked at the last minute to join an operation to capture and turn on a radar station. We were supposed to parachute jump onto a mountainous glacier, but thank god the airplane was broken. Instead, we hitched a ride in a helicopter and simply stepped off the aircraft.

Just prior to the mission, we were issued some new gear, rumored to be delivered by some European or North American assistance or something, which sounded great at first. However, this was not a rifle or sight I was familiar with, and 1 minute skimming through the manual in the dark only told me that I am supposed to store it in dry conditions and only use brand-name cleaning cloths to wipe down the optic, which can be ordered for $9.95 USD per cloth. Between that and the cold and climbing several hills and minor mountains, my marksmanship was piss-poor.

Most of my job was staring through the scope and telling people what I saw. I shot and killed a couple of officers and a couple engineering troops. We had a few close calls with unobserved PRC marines walking up on us or otherwise engaging us. Thankfully, it seems most of them didn't have batteries for their NVGs or weren't afforded time to get issued glasses before their deployment, because they made me look like an expert shot by comparison. And I am glad their reinforcements drove their trucks directly up to our killzones before dismounting. If they had dismounted and walked up on us in tactical formation, probably a much worse day. But... I'm sure the enemy will wisen up with experience.

In any case, I flipped on the radar once we had power, and then I saw the second worst thing of the whole mission. I felt a sharp sting, and then looked down and boy was I losing a lot of blood. My squad leader (Vahakyla) patched me up enough to get me barely ambulatory. Then we went to clear out the final base, where I saw the most horrifying thing of the whole mission:

making GBS threads in a freezing poratpotty is already terrible. What kind of monster makes you do that on a 20-degree sideways angle, uphill of the entrance to a lookout tower. The enemy we face is a truly nefarious and brutal group of assholes. I lost my faith in humanity a bit when I saw this.

I also grabbed a map and GPS off a PRC Marine officer, though I wouldn't be surprised if these characters I can't read just list guard shifts and food/fuel stores.

I was more fortunate than some, in that I survived. However, given the seriousness of my injury, the doctor says I'm probably out of this war for good unless it goes on for another year or so. Which knowing my luck, it will :smith:

Kills: 1 Officer, 1 Scout Leader, 2 combat engineers.
Losses: I got shot real bad, but I lived.

E: I also had a nightmare before the mission that we all got together to learn what we were going to do, but instead people just kept killing each other and laughing, laughing at the death and destruction of throwing grenades at their superior officers.

Bravo 1 Lead

After the initial brief some of us, who weren't afraid of airplanes, boarded the C-130 and dropped on the target. Unfortunately I misread my altimeter on my watch and deployed at 1500 meters and not 1500 feet. Oh well, I did some aerial recon on the way down. We formed up and moved along the southwest coast. Contact was minimal. Instructed Bravo 2 to engage the mortar site and we continued on. Once we were at our overlook we started to take fire and our automatic rifle teams did gods work.

Things got a bit confused when Bravo2 mentioned radar, which I thought was the radar I was looking at, and there was some confusion. Then I realized it was a different radar site. Things broke down a bit once we moved in as our weaponry wasn't terribly ideal for CQC. Also somehow when I rebound my "throw grenade" to double tap G, it picked up a switch on my joystick so I couldn't actually toss any grenades. Clearing the compound was a pain and we took a few deaths at this point. I should have had each team reform at this point and move in as groups instead of the chaos we had.

I picked up some intel GPS/Maps near the shitter that Sergeant Gonzales was traumatized by. And also wandered through an empty cubicle farm without finding anything, not even a red stapler.

The separation of teams worked well and we had just enough coordination. I think were was a comms issue as it would work on occasion, while others time it was 100% not working.

Having a nearly nude trooper also made it easy for my team to form up, it was just "form up on the naked dude past the blue shitter."

OOC : I'm having fun with Arma, jank and all.

Chevy Flight: After Action Report

I'll keep this brief, as this mission was considered a failure and we need to focus on where we need to improve.

What was the task
* Originally, the task was to provide CAS over the Punta Arenas isthmus. On the eve of the operation, the tasking was shifted to conduct a mixed SEAD/Strike-mission on Northern Tierra del Fuego.
* This mission was considerably complexer than the initial task. However, thanks to Breaky and Karrick joining the flight, it became achievable.

What was the outcome
* We were jumped by a PLAAF patrol over the Magellan strait and wiped out immediately -- had just a few seconds of reaction time before we were blown out of the sky
* None of the assigned targets were achieved

What went well
* Thanks to Breaky's and Karricks involvement, we were quickly able to generate a new action plan for the mission.
* Without prior practice, we were able to take off at the cramped airfield, and ended up in the AO almost in formation.

What went wrong
There are a number of failures of mostly strategic nature, mostly surrounding degraded situational awareness.

1. Scope creep in the mission plan
The final mission became much more complex (several targets, different type). As a result, attention during the flight was spent on coordinating the flight onto the three target locations. This was attention that was not spent on gaining and maintaining situational awareness.

2. There were no time tables
When Chevy approached the strait, we did so in the belief that we were actually late to the party, what with us flying at ~250 knots top speed. When I could not find any hostile SAM site where intel said it should be, I encountered confirmation bias: I interpreted this as consistent with these sites having either been attacked by other SEAD strikes, or these sites not painting us as they were already engaging other flights. In fact, these sites were not active because we were unintentionally the first flight over the AO.

3. There was no situational awareness
As outlined in the previous point, I expected us to be the slowest flight and misinterpreted the battlespace consistent with that expectation. In other words, there was no situational awareness. This was also true for Buzzard, who said that he could not see many units due to a large amount of clutter in his information. To my knowledge, the other flights also didn't realize we had overtaken them. In other words, crucial situational information was not available, communicated, or asked for between all commanding parties in the mission (flight leads, managers). As a result of all this, I was basically shot out of the sky the moment I could tell my flight to duck.

4. There was no air superiority near the AO
This speaks for itself, essentially. Because lacking communication and protocols degraded situational awareness, we were over the strait before our cover arrived. Had we been a minute or two later, the mission might have become a complete sucess. Our own jets managed to wipe the floor with the PLAAF.

5. Runaway trim condition on Breaky's plane
Breaky experienced runaway trim when disconnecting his autopilot. This was not a technical error but a result of how the autopilot works -- it maintains the last trim commanded by the AP, even if that trim is a suicidal nosedive (because the AP is poo poo). For a large portion of the flight, his Froggy was essentially uncontrollable.

Recommendations based on these shortcomings
1. Missions should be simple. This falls both on command as well as the flight lead - I should have more forcefully lobbied to put one plane on SEAD, and the other two on strike.
2. We need to establish clear time tables. There should be pre-defined conditions at which strikers will ingress and egress. They need to be clearly communicated and acknowledged.
2a. I also recommend establishing holding points or safe corridors for when air superiority is in doubt.
3. Points 1, 2, and 2a should help with situational awareness. However, flight leads and battle managers need to pipe up the moment they have any doubt. Communicate proactively, never make assumptions.
4. As a result of 1, 2, 2a, and 3, air superiority should be established.
5. Aircrews should receive additional training on the avionics of the SU25T in order to prevent similar mishaps from occuring.

Mission Debrief: Ford Flight
17 FEB 2010

Objective
Ford flight was tasked with eliminating a PLA HY-6 Silkworm anti-ship missile battery and provide their own CAP.

Result
Ford was able to completely destroy the silkworm site as well as a PLAN submarine target of opportunity hiding in a nearby fjord.

After Action Report
During ingress we were warned of a flight of 2 J-7 approaching the silkworm site from the east. Thanks to the efforts of Pontiac 1 they were able to intercept the J-7s and give us a clean approach to our objective.

At D1 our flight ran into some navigation issues which lead to our flight getting a bit more spread out than I would have liked. This lead to Ford 1-2 overflying the objective prematurely. It worked out, however, as Ford 1-1 wasn't far off and 1-1 and 1-2 were able to magnum our AGM-45 Shrikes at about the same time to great effectiveness. The remainder of Ford flight then arrived at the objective and proceeded to persecute the launchers and support equipment of the silkworm battery.

During the strike Ford 2-1 “Jerik” initiated a strafing run on the PLAN submarine utilizing LAU-10 ZUNI rockets. Every one of his rockets struck the submarine and rendered it inoperable. Excellent work.

On egress Ford 1-2 suggested we overfly the radar station to hopefully provide recon to our special forces team assaulting it early the next morning. Ford broke into smaller flights to search for the site but our recon seems to have turned up nothing. Below are some photos snapped by Ford 1-2 "Mederlock" with his personal camera. The entirety of Ford flight returned to the ARA Veinticinco de Mayo and landed without issue.

For Next Time
Some things to improve on for the next mission would be to double check our navigation and get a bit more organized in our attack runs. Getting scattered over D1 could have been a disaster for our flight, but we had luck on our side. As flight lead I should have had the familiarity with the AN/ASN-41 navigation computer to have known to double check our waypoints were correct.
When we set up to perform our attack we kinda just…went at it once we realized there was no MANPAD or air threat. I would have liked to have our attack a bit more organized with 1 or 2 pilots calling out their run ins. We had some close calls with a couple pilots running in from opposite directions so it may be beneficial to take steps to avoid the possibility of any mid-air incidents in future missions.

Final Thoughts
As far as I am concerned Ford flight did an excellent job completing the mission Every pilot stood out by having done something that impressed me. Honorable mention to rookie Ford 1-4 "Wyatt Burp" who got a ground kill with an AIM-9P5 sidewinder. I am extremely proud of having flown with you all. Well done.

That third panel of the first comic just makes it. It's still funny if you remove it, but that panel included just makes it top tier.

Run Silent - Run Deep

Off the northeast coast of the Malvinas lurks the Tikuna. A 68m long Hunter-Killer Submarine capable of almost silent operation with batteries. It hunts on the path between Africa and Malvinas. They hang just above the thermocline layer to use it as a sonic funnel. Creeping at 6 knots, they listen and wait.

The sea state is mild, just a 2, with some light clouds above and a patter of rain. Nothing severe enough to keep ASW assets under tarps. Unfortunately there is no covergence zones to give us a reflection of sound from far away so we'll have to do it the old fashioned way.

Contact! Three hours into the patrol a commercial tanker rumbles on the scope. It's detected by a CSU 83/1 hull sonar unit. Fairly old compared to US tech, but still capable. The captain orders an intercept, it'll be cutting it close as they don't dare go much faster.

I felt it was better to let the pictures speak for themselves. Tikuna knocked out three large ships : a big container ship, a medium one, and a 40,000 DWT tanker. She almost, almost, made it out. Except she was in the maws of the beast in a heavily patrolled area. Once those three torpedo's were off it was on like Donkey-Kong. The FFG's first struck with ASW rockets and then with torpedos. Tikuna tried to surface to fire back but it was too late. The ASW rockets knocked out the hull sonars...

Spoiler is the three Chinese frigates that were hunting it as well as a Helix.

The prognosis
is not good.

Fast Forward a couple years and listen to this tale told by PLA Naval sailors on the midwatch

Beware the ghost submarine, Chinese sailors! It is the Tikuna, a Brazilian vessel sunk with all hands by our forces off the coast of the Falklands. But it is said that the Tikuna did not die with its crew. On moonless nights, it rises from the depths to seek revenge on those who wronged it.

Those who have seen the Tikuna tell tales of a spectral blip on sonar screens, a ghostly hull glowing in the moonlight, and the muffled screams of its lost crew echoing through the waves. Some say that the Tikuna is cursed, and that anyone who sees it is doomed to die. Others say that it is a warning from the spirits of the lost crew, warning others to stay away from the dangerous waters off the coast of the Falklands.

Whatever the truth may be, one thing is for sure: the ghost of the Tikuna is still out there, lurking in the depths, waiting for its next victim.

So, Chinese sailors, be warned! If you ever find yourself sailing off the coast of the Falklands on a moonless night, keep your ears open for the muffled screams of the lost crew. And if you see a strange blip on your sonar screens, or a ghostly hull glowing in the moonlight, turn your ship around and sail away as fast as you can.

For if you stay too long, the Tikuna may claim you as its next victim.
