Today I've learned you can strafe very slightly and avoid making any noise and also walk peeking is a death trap. This whole time I thought it was the proper approach.

Good times. Really enjoying the r8 because for whatever reason the deagle feels foreign to me.

Interesting insight into CS2's networking from a Valve employee who's been helping out with CS2 recently. He's the one that got dogpiled a week or two ago for some remarks about locking your FPS to 120 when someone complained about performance drops. He's a saint for continuing to interact with the community. He also gave a beta branch code for anyone to try who have been having packet loss issues. I found this part of his post a bit concerning:

quote:

Yes the larger update size is why this became a problem in CS2.

It is known that the bandwidth usage is much higher than CSGO. Fixing it is a big project, but one that i believe is planned. But I don't know when that will happen, unfortunately.

I can only assume that the increased information that subtick has brought is the main culprit behind the increase in bandwidth usage. I'm excited that subtick's accuracy is so much better in terms of hit registration and all that, but it seems like CS2's networking overall is in a bit of a weird place with all the issues people have been posting about since release. Even some pros at IEM Sydney said it didn't feel right on LAN.

Also there's a rumor going around that workshop support is coming this week or within the next few weeks (Valve time and all that), I really need my surfing back Volvo. :argh:

This is one of those “I wish valve weren’t the ones who made counter-strike” moments.

And before anyone trips over themselves to say it first, I’m aware that the game is what it is today because of valves absentee parenting, but good lord I wish they give their community a *crumb* of information here and there.

Yes, I do believe they did.

Also, from my point of view, as a guy who played routinely for years with 120-150 ping, CS2 is handling that much better in most situations that GO did.

You peek around corners and shoot people before you render on their screen.

on one hand the actual shooting feels much better, on the other ive been shot before i peeked the corner and everyone randomly racercar peeks or teleports back a few steps at least once or twice a game

this is called "peeker's advantage" and is an inherent consequence of interpolation which is required to make multiplayer shooters playable over distances of hundreds of kilometers

Good pick up. I unboxed a case hardened stiletto knife with a decent amount of blue a while back. I traded it away for a pair of imperial plaid gloves and an Ursus ultraviolet knife. A good combo if you like purple.

We can all learn from our past mistakes.

PC Gamer interviews Valve's CS2 development team. Some things I found interesting.

quote:

Do you intend to introduce new weapons over CS2's lifespan?

Yes. It's not the top priority at the moment, but we absolutely plan to introduce some new weapons for CS2. We're always looking for ways to give players more interesting decisions to make in the game, so we'll typically look at cases where players either don't have the right tools to approach a situation, or have only one or two tools available. Where is the gameplay getting stale? What kind of weapon might shake up the status quo?

Over the ten years of CS:GO we learned some occasionally painful lessons about how to gracefully introduce a new weapon to the game. We think we have a handle on how to approach this in the future, and with the customizable loadouts in CS2, shipping weapons should be even more straightforward.
Not sure how I would feel about adding more weapons. Things like the R8 and the PP-Bizon are dead weight to the game although an expensive gun in the 3.5k-4.5k price range could be good.

quote:

The contemporary mainstream FPS defaults towards "aim downsights" shooting, whereas in CS only guns with sights do that. Has the CS dev team ever considered a radical shakeup of the shooting basics, or do they think these classic principles will stand another ten years?

We'd probably think about it in the opposite direction: what problem does aiming downsights solve, and do we have that problem? On consoles, ADS is a great solution to the difficulty of aiming with a controller. You can hide an auto-aim snap to the enemy in the transition, reduce controller sensitivity to make aiming easier, etc. But those aren't gameplay/input problems that PC players have and, more importantly, it's not something our players are expressing any concern about. So we don't have any plans to change the basics in CS2.

quote:

Premier matchmaking is now the most popular mode in Counter-Strike, which we didn't predict. So we're keeping our first year plans flexible as we balance our ability to respond to urgent player needs with the long list of other features we'd love to ship.

A good read.

Insanely good imo. In all seriousness any weapon added would have to fill a role that could not be filled by a current weapon with adjustments. I do think there are some goatse sized holes with purchases on the ct side that need to be addressed.
