To be fair, L4D adds another dimension to the Witch concept by having PvP. The witch was like a random tactical trap that the zombie team could try to bait (Smoker drag on to the witch or pounce a dude trying to one shot it etc.)

Dakka Ogyn with middle tank for best of both worlds without the underwhelming lucky bullet passives.

Tank Ogyn with shield with the left side heavy attacks so you can just slam your car door into things and whatever it doesn't kill outright will bleed to death.

wait is Lucky Bullet passives not worth?

Also what is base crit chance in this game anyways?

lucky bullet isn't worth it if you're not running magdumpers like the stubbers or the faster ripper guns, and if you're not running blessings/passives that key off the lucky bullet proc. it's something you kinda want to build to

I've gotten back into Darktide after nearly a year because of the new update. My only lvl 30 character is an Ogryn, and I want to have as much fun as possible stompin' things.

I've tried Dakka Ogryn, using the right side of the talent tree and a heavy machine gun. Awesome.

I've tried Tank Ogryn, using a shield and the middle of the talent tree. Fun, reminds me of Ironbreaker from VT2 (I always liked Ironbreaker).

I've tried 'splodey Ogryn, taking the explosion talents and a grenade launcher. Using the fast reload skill and carpetbombing an enemy is great.

What else is fun? What do you suggest I try?

I like running this "berserker ogryn" build with a Bull Butcher w/Slaughterer and Confident Strike and for ranged I bring the Gorgonum with Charmed Reload and Blaze Away. I need to login to see my curios but I stack tons of health, no extra wounds, some toughness, and then sniper/gunner resists.

I'm having a ton of fun with my shovel-wielding DPS-focused Ogryn. It's probably the most effective build I've played overall, with excellent damage against armored targets and bosses coupled with high sustained survivability. Use your charge liberally against groups of melee elites and then pull back so you don't get cut off, or find clumps of ranged enemies and wipe out their backline. Light->Heavy->repeat is effective against hordes, and Heavy spam provides a steady stream of toughness against elites and bosses.

Just wanted to pop in and say I love this build. I was getting bored with assail for whatever reason but this build rips. Very tough build as well. MK 5 force sword and purgatus staff just slaughters. Already had the 10% brain boom and soulfire proc numerous times in melee and I’m not even 20 yet. Weirdly I’m better dodging with my psyker than anyone else. I dodge like an elf and power sword them in the face. A bit funny as my psyker is an old man. Most fun class I’ve had all game.

My Ogryn has a similar build with power maul or cleaver and I’m having fun. Might have to go to shield with damnation difficulty when I start doing that. The ser Krubah charge is just so much fun.

Don’t mind daemonhosts at all but had a funny bug: zealot runs off to solo and leaves us all behind. He attacks a daemonhost that kills him the teleports to us (across the map) and kills two of us. Lucky for us the Ogryn did not suck and finished him off and proceeded to pick us all up. Zealot runs off again and rage quits when he dies again. Our new buddy finished the map with us just fine. Kinda wish this game had a Vs mode like LFD 2.

Different weapons have different crit chances, the base chance is 5% (veteran used to be 10% but that might of changed) most weapons are like +5% crit chance, combat knife is like +30% crit chance, most ogyn weapons like the stubber is -3% crit chance (ogyn's don't get a lot of crit synergy outside of charmed reload or reason to take crit)

Where can you look up the crit chances for everything? well.

I run that setup on auric damnation with no problems. Not to say you can't run a shield, but I wouldn't say it's needed.

Personally my shield build is different talents, I think I took someone's shield build here.

Even if you do use stubbers as currently implemented the lucky bullet tree is a very minor damage increase that you're sinking a lot of points into, and the lucky bullet procs will take priority over charmed reload procs, which are more beneficial to your damage output. You're better putting the points elsewhere and taking feel no pain instead. Taking the gunner active ability is way more impactful, and especially taking the rending node from melee ogryn let's you just absolutely shred through huge mobs of ragers, crushers, and maulers when coupled with the fire stacks.

wait, so when you take the perk that turn lucky bullets into crit procs too and pair that with charmed reload, it doesnt work?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Klbc1iCO04U

This video goes into exhaustive detail about how the mechanic interacts, but out of an entire magazine of gorgonum ammo you're only likely to proc the burst limiter override crit 5 to 10 times. It's more that since the bullet is already having a chance to crit, theres a chance it would also roll to proc your lucky bullet when it already crit so the only thing the points you invested into lucky bullet do is give you +1 ammo.

If you want the cooldown reduction part of the lucky bullet node its way better to invest in the bodyguard ogryns talent reduction, if you want extra ranged crit its still such a minor increase that just putting on charmed reload increases your total damage output in a firefight by increasing your magazine capacity, and if you wanna shoot tougher guys the rending perk on melee ogryn is a better choice too.

In a gunner ogryn build if you bypass this whole node and instead just put a single point into feel no pain, I've found its such a strong talent by itself that it can make a huge difference in damnation.

Plasma gun damage changes are good, now for breakpoints I think building some amount of crit and weakspot increased damage is worth it.

It will shoot through way more people and can hit two ogryns with a single tap now.

Seems like in the psykanium though the node i was relying on to replenish toughness for my plasma build isn't working correctly, exhilarating takedown.

Is there any kind of worthwhile, like, "psyzerker" build to be had trying to keep max uptime on Scryer's Gaze and mostly going for melee weakspot kills (e.g. with Force Sword, Antax, Duelist's Sword or something) with the occasional staff bombardments for ranged targets/peril generation?

I've tried a few things but not sure I can make it work.

Use a duelist sword (Mk IV has best single target performance), Smite or Brain Burst, and whatever gun you want - Revolver is a good bet, as is a headhunter auto or Kantrael lasgun. Chainsword can work in a pinch. Force swords are a little too slow on the special attack.

All of your peril will pretty much come from Scrier's Gaze, Smite/Brain Burst is just a crowd control backup.

Damp and depressing.
It must be a goon in its
natural habitat!
Quick patch trip report, the Zealot's crusher feels good now, though it doesn't have the most straightforward moveset. If you've got it down though you can exclusively do sweeps or overheads and they seem really killy against hordes and elites respectively. The nerfed charged attack is more situational now, but it was useful for saving teammates and it still perma-staggers Ogryns at least.
Most efficient horde-sweeping combo I found was light -> heavy (as opener) into light x3 -> heavy -> light x3 -> heavy -> etc.. For overheads it's just heavy -> light -> repeat. Alternatively you can just pay attention to where your weapon ends up at on your screen after an attack. If it's on the left-side you'll get a sweeping heavy, otherwise it becomes an overhead heavy.

The headhunter mk7 felt pretty good as well, as long as you can land some headshots it easily makes short work of elite gunners and specialists. With a crit it ends them right there, but even if you don't it's fast enough for a quick tap to the chest to finish them off.

Yeah I mean commisary ones. The premium ones aren't consistent enough as its usually only for a couple of specific weapons. In comissary there's just the red paintjob and the camo one that barely looks dissimilar from the default grey, same ones since around launch. They don't need to go all DRG hogwild on it but surely it can't be that much :effort: to whip up a couple more basic color schemes you can slap on guns.
