I actually connected to my estranged young son by reading him the hobbit in installments over the phone. Middle Earth is a fantasy I like to think about sometimes. People like myself and other lovers of the setting love all that lore and buildup...most people don't. Every person I showed the movies to that were not interested in the books when they were younger made the same comment and its the same one you made....."Two long" Some of the stuff doesn't need to be said.
