Yeah once I finish Alyx I think the only other thing I’ll bother with for PCVR is Skyrim. And who knows if I’m actually up for another play through.

My Quest 2 was always dead when I wanted to use it. I thought the forehead sensor was getting triggered and waking the screen constantly. I just put black tape over the sensor, problem solved.

Quest 3 does the same thing, but if I tape over the sensor, it won't boot up. Is there a better solution?

I do when leaving it for more than a day. It sucks though, cause it doesn't wake for updates.

Other option is to leave it plugged in, or remember to plug it in long enough before you use it. Neither of which are ideal.

Just bought the quest 3, hopefully the lenses will be an improvement from the reverb G2.

I know the visual clarity/resolution/compression/latency isn't as good, but I've been having some trouble with WMR freezing lately (I think it's related to my gsync ultimate monitor, not that knowing it helps) and I've been curious to try if the tracking and lenses are really better. Worse comes to worst I'll give to my mum who's been somewhat wanting to get a headset as she's enjoyed using VR but probably wouldn't buy one herself and doesn't have a PCVR-capable PC.

I've watched a lot of flight sim focused reviews of the Quest 3, and they were all pretty unanimous that the Q3 lenses give it a huge advantage over the Reverb G2.

Holy crap the zenni snap in lenses are so much better an experience than wearing my normal glasses in between. I don't even have a very significant prescription (like -1.5 in each eye) and the level of clarity and lack of any hazing/fogging is night and day. Absolutely must purchase for glasses-wearers.

So I have a pico 4 that I use exclusively for porn. I normally download 8k porn with file sizes of around 20 gb+.

At this sort of resolution, would there be image improvement if I upgrade to the Apple ViP when it comes out?

Should do, given the micro-OLED screens. "VR" video never did anything for me since it literally breaks if you look at it funny, but holography in the examples I've seen (like the lightfield demos Google released) is The Real Thing and Apple seems to have something up their sleeves in this space. There's gaussian splats too, which is a method of visualizing 3 dimensional photography that's just getting out of the research stage, but shows a lot of promise of being performant, compressible and visually pleasing to the eye.

I continue to hope for holographic photography and video to be a thing. The porn would be great obviously but it has a lot of potential for linear storytelling too.

Laser surgery can be such an overall quality of life improvement that it's worth the price.

But I would suggest SMILE instead of LASIK, it's a newer and less scary procedure.

I mean someone had the Zenni in cart for like $110 a few pages back, I'm just thinking between not buying those, not buying glasses and contacts and ongoing vision care plans, seems like it's pretty good ROI on top of the instant QOL. Like, if you've got $500 something as frivolous as a Quest 3 then it's not unreasonable to think you can do the 3-5k.

Anyway, I'm not an expert, don't take my advice. But my bf didn't like VR and after ditching glasses he's been pinging pongs in there for like an hour a day for the last 6 months. Plays way more than me, but maybe I can catch up once I find some time for that Pianovision game.

I feel like my eye doctor said something about my eyes being too poo poo for laser correction.

I'm also under the impression lens inserts will be decently pricey because of my prescription, and I'm unsure how much I like the idea of having to take my glasses off/on when swapping in and out of VR. Anyone who's totally in love with inserts: do you have a high index prescription and/or can basically see dick all without your glasses on?

Collateral Damage
Jun 13, 2009

VROptician which is the one I have my lenses from can do from -20 to +10 SPH, from -10 to +6 CYL and up to 180° AX although the high prescriptions cost extra. They have a calculator on their web site, I assume any other provider would as well.

Personally I rarely take my headset off during a play session. If I need to mess with the desktop I'll just bring the virtual desktop up inside VR. But I also don't consider swapping glasses on and off a hurdle, I swap from regular glasses to reading glasses whenever I'm at the computer anyway.

I have an oddball prescription and had to DIY my own lens inserts. Totally worth it, but I'm also a guy with a workshop who can do such things.

I think inserts are totally worth it, even if I have to take my glasses off before wearing the headset. The comfort is just much better.
