Personally I hold Ben & Jerry's responsible: Ben Cohen has a weak sense of taste (anosmia) so they kept adding chunkier stuff to improve the mouthfeel and they are good at it but many other ice-cream makers got into the chunky habit but without the same level of care for the experience. and this makes me angry.

Strictly speaking, anosmia is a complete lack of smell (which obviously impacts your sense of taste), and hyposmia is a diminished sense of smell (which also impacts your sense of taste). I have no idea which one Ben Cohen has, but as someone with hyposmia, textures in foods definitely become more important to you.

Italian food rules but I can say from personal experience that the difference between traditional Italian foods and imitations thereof is minimal. The difference between actual traditional Italian pizza and/or pasta made in Italy by Italians and western European chain restaurant fast food pizza and/or Pasta isn't really that much. Now I've only ever been to northern Italy (Bologna and Milano) so maybe their pizzas and pastas are vastly inferior to southern pizzas and pastas but I doubt it. Their hams and cheeses were phenomenal though. I brought home a couple of kilos of parmesan. Probably would've brought the same amount of processed meats home if I had the chance because those were all amazing.

We had a grand time in the bad pizza thread, looking at pizzas from all over Italy. That poo poo could get dire. Italy is no better at making pizza than anyone.
