It's coming up on the finale of The Morning Show and there's this big scene where Reese Witherspoon's character is confronted by her girlfriend (played by Julianna Margulies) about the cover up she perpetrated over her brother being involved in 1/6 It's supposed to be a pivotal moment where a journalist is confronted with the moral failure of having crossed every line to protect "a terrorist". She's covering for someone who assaulted a police officer! It feels so loving hollow in light of, well, today.

I watched Marie Antoinette last night as dual warm up for Napoleon and Prescilla, and I couldn’t believe how good and funny it was, I was laughing almost nonstop through the first half. It’s sort of a feminist take on Barry Lyndon in its hilarious portrayal of the ridiculousness of late feudalism

Some Guy TT posted:so im about halfway through the second season of strange new worlds and i have to say im not sure i like this show as much as i used to there were cracks at the end of the first season i tried to be positive about but there have been a lot more hijinx than i was expecting or wanting and the show in general seems to have moved away from interesting logical puzzles to character relationships and imaginary social criticisms that i just really dont care very much about I think SNW is the finest Trek made this century, bar none. However, I think you did hit a point I didn't see until you mentioned it. Yeah, SNW is fairly anti-Vulcan. Spock is half human and the tidal forces between that and being all the way Vulcan are a key point of drama in the series, and they seem to land on "humanity rocks" more often than not and the Vulcan part of him is presented as something to be overcome rather than embraced. In the second season they have an entire episode about this and I felt like Vulcaness was still being treated as an annoyance by Spock. I suspect this might be an outcropping from Discovery, where this was played up even more as Burnham was Spock's adoptive sister and rear end in a top hat Vulcans attacked them over it.

I haven't watched it for over a decade, but I remember liking Shattered Glass a lot. I guess a lot of it was because it was well acted. I could imagine upon rewatch being way more critical of the PMC CRISIS premise. Order and justice was restored by the noble editor simply firing the hero-turned-villain. It holds the profession of journalism in such high regard. Glass (the character and real person) was caught lying about a low stakes story about a teen hacker. He was lying his way upwards like every ambitious sociopath, but he wasn't really shown making overt propaganda for the US Empire. Perhaps today he might have been a Twitter main character for 48 hours who survives the scandal by constantly posting through it. Media people have gotten away with much worse the past few years alone.

so a thought on scavengers reign does anyone else think the woman whos with the guy is kind of a jerk even though shes played up as the perspective character i was like right there with him when hes going look i dont want to be a jerk but i was scared shitless when you jumped back into the giant thorn wall for no reason and youre continuing to talk in vague platitudes about what a great experience it was is really pissing me off because we could seriously die out here if you keep it up with that poo poo and her response was just pfft maybe youd die but im a badass and ill be fine on my own its weird because shes definitely framed as the "nice" character but i honestly like her a lot less than the other woman whose only dialog saying mean things to her robot but tbf i also hate robots so maybe im just having trouble internalizing her racism as being a character flaw

i think the show might be depicting her as someone who can learn about and live with the planet rather than the guy who is uncurious and hostile toward it. this was demonstrated by the anecdote about finding the skull and him fumbling his way into falling into the orange goo
