We're discovering it thanks to it being available to stream though!

I find stuff on music streaming due to my friends playlists and shares all the time. The existence of the algorithm curated stuff doesn't eliminate friends sharing stuff at all.

This is actually true - the algorithm only pushes super popular stuff. It's real loving annoying - especially if you like unpopular stuff cause generated playlists will only play the most listened to stuff and it's hard to discover new music. At least with regards to metal. But other genres if never goes deep enough - just the hits.

Google Music was amazing for this surprisingly and I am not sure if YouTube music uses the same algorithm.

There's tons of videos out there on this - it's actually gotten worse.

My liked playlists end up playing songs i've heard a ton of times before - it gets loving boring and repetitive.

I just realised I’m way further through Jusant than I thought because I keep looking at my phone whenever chapter titles come up

It’s really good! I agree with Shoog that the text log stuff is pretty superfluous and meh but the climbing and general environmental design is extremely good (which in turn makes the text logs even MORE superfluous because the story of the world is already being told well enough without them)

I regularly get suggested stuff from bands with “monthly listener” counts in the 3 or very low 4 digits, which seems pretty ‘unpopular’ in the grand scheme of things

Youtube Music is absolute dogshit and I only have it out of inertia and because they bundled it with Youtube Premium which is nice for no ads on my phone.

Ditto. If y'all like power pop check out Liquid Mike, by the by. Very mid nineties and or Fountains of Wayne. Good poo poo. Don't know why Spotify feeds me these obscure things but it's why I have always preferred it to the competition. I used to run my own media server with a couple tb of music but the maintenance got way too burdensome.

On a sludge front they recommended me this band called Barbarian Fist which is like Kyuss x Megadeth. I almost never recommend them though because some of their song titles are edgy in a bad way. Notable because that was 2017 and as of now they have 194 listeners lmao.

Epic bought Bandcamp and did nothing with it, and then sold it to a company no one had heard of at the same time as the recent layoff wave. So while the site still functions a lot of people think serving its original purpose is no longer a priority and it's a dead service walking

Epic sold it and then half its staff got laid off, including all the writers for Bandcamp Daily, which was a really solid music publication that people generally loved. It's still alive but diminished and its future looks bleak.

Non, je ne regrette rien

Still early in Alan Wake II (currently in Alan's second chapter), and I think this about sums it up:

I'm enjoying it a lot (the atmosphere in particular is top notch), but while the original AW was pretty straightforward, this reminds me a lot of Control in that the first act seems to be mostly about raising a million different questions that will presumably be answered in the future. Also a lot more direct Control references than I was expecting, so glad I played that first (and because it's a great game).

Appropriate that Homer is watching a parody of Twin Peaks in that screenshot! I'm still early as well, only a chapter or two ahead of you, and I'm loving how little I know about what's going on. AW2 feels deliberately, maybe even self consciously, like it's the Twin Peaks S3 of Alan Wake. Back after a long hiatus during which the protagonist was stuck in real time in hell, much darker in content and tone, expanding the universe considerably, and, I hope, not trying to answer too much of what it raises. Also Alan's death screen and the load screen when you're swapping between him and Saga are straight up David Lynch special effects.

I played a little on PC and the Robocop game is silly fun if you’re a fan of the franchise. Not full new game price fun, but definitely one to pick up in a sale.

When you hit the trigger to ADS it does the little targeting animation to highlight enemies just like in the movies, it’s :krad:

It's a really interesting remake because it isn't a full-on super 3D top of the line remake, but neither is it just a gussied up version of the original. They changed a ton but largely in ways that make it feel like the original game but if you look at them side-by-side it's clear just how much has changed in the interface, layout, combat system, basically everything.

Basically the biggest criticism I have about it right now is that the QoL changes plus a few bonuses mean that it's even easier to abso-loving-lutely destroy the game's difficulty curve than it was in the original where that was extra true.

late to the party as usual but bandcamp isn't dead? and spotify is good.

i listen to spotify a ton and use bandcamp to buy physical copies of music i really like. you're a delusional fool if you think i'm going to pay $10 for every album i just want to listen to a few times digitally on any device i use and then never again. i will however happily pay 10-20-50+ for a physical copy or deluxe edition of something i really want to support while still paying 12 bucks a month to stream basically any song in history.
