Enchanter is flat out the best class to do what you're asking about Ehud, but you may have more opportunities to chill with other classes (though mem blur should be working for awhile still on everything, not sure where PQs mechanics stand on this).

Also I think discussing both P99 and PQ is great for this thread but yeah, maybe try to preface which servers you're talking about before starting a new convo.

On that note, anyone playing PQ interested in providing a blurb for the OP? Any great thread title ideas? If not I'll come up with something boring but functional.

It took a bit to get used to the differences in the mechanics on PQ versus P99, but enchanter is still the same powerhouse it's always been. A few things that are different here:

- GCD reset works differently. You have to hit it twice to reset spell gems immediately, and it won't work with fast-cast spells like Tash. If the spell finishes before the typical spell gem reset without the GCD reset, it won't actually cast. This changes a bit about spell order. The first slot still instantly resets as it does on P99, which is a well-known bug.

- Level 4 mez (typically the one I use the most) seems to blur 100% of the time. It happened maybe 40-60% on P99.

- Guards seem to have insane resists. Oggok guards are basically unkillable and Highkeep guards are entirely immune to charm.

- DoT ticks are really nice! There's also text showing how much your rune/bedlam shield is eaten when you take spell damage (e.g. manastone)

Guards having insane magic res is a thing in p99 too but post Kunark iirc when they’re upgraded in power

I don't know if this was a PoP era thing to save server power or something but some of the classic leveling spots on PQ, like oasis, seem pretty barren compared to what I remember. I've been greatly enjoying it for the most part, though.

I was Volitilia, the wizard that left you high and dry when it turned out I had an entire hour less time to play than I thought I did :v:

Quarm has been a loving blast so far. I started as a rogue, got that to 33 and did the rounds getting all the legacy stuff, and now I'm gonna see if I can't get a wizard, necro, paladin, and cleric up to 20 each for jboots. Manastone and guise would be cool for a couple of those too, but I don't think I've got the time to push any of them to 30 if I'm gonna level so many to 20.

We reformed our pet centric group when it became obvious that all of the outdoor spots were super camped during prime time. Meanwhile we’ve had good luck eeking out spots in Upper Guk and whatnot, mostly avoiding the named camps. Swapped out our two NECs and MAG for a RNG/BRD/CLR with my DRU and our flaky 5ths whatever the hell (currently SHM maybe MAG)

Oh what up Volatilia! It’s Fiaryn the Shadowknight.

I don’t think I was there when you and Spirit were both in Guk but I DID get to see a hilarious group explosion you might get something useful out of.

There is a Ranger named Snare. Do not group with that dude. He is a danger to everyone around him. We had a really safe and stable camp at Squire and when he took over pulling he started taking really deranged routes for even longer pulls. Pretty soon he’s dead to a Tonta Knight and friends which then hunt us down and kill everyone except me and the Necromancer. The funniest part is he had like, two brushes with death before this where he fled to LGuk zoneline BEFORE the final fuckup. So he kept doing it.

(The Necro feigned death and I was gone with the wind the second it was obvious we were hosed)

That has to be one of the unintentionally funniest things about classic EQ. The moment poo poo hits the fan for a group, it can just become a free for all where everyone scatters and tries to make it away.

The spawn rates on PQ are so high that I can't even break up a camp. It's just constant kobolds in these camps in Toxx.

Playing on green we encountered this twinked dwarf rogue who kept stealing the second floor for main room while we were upstairs. Later in the week he joined our group up there and would chain pull never checking mana or anything and got us killed a bunch of times or made us train zone. My friends and I moved on to goblins in Highkeep and he joins the group the second day in and does the same thing. Like we'd barely survive a bad pull and everyone's at low health no mana and he keeps chain pulling the goblins (who are on a short timer). He barely spoke a sentence or two and people kept letting him in because 1. it's rude not to and 2. he was twinked as hell. It was a strange thing to experience because at this point the game is solved so you can known spawn timers (I always have one going from first pull so we know when stuff's going to pop on us) but this guy was winging it like it was actually 1999.

Similarly on the new XI private server we had a twinked out NIN tank talking hot poo poo before we got to an XP camp, then when started to struggle to hold threat against the twinked out people in my LS the excuses started rolling in

It's incredible that one of the reasons old mmos are talked up by people who play them is that in a smaller community reputation matters more but in practice the totally expected thing of nobody being willing to confront obvious problem people happens immediately.

Often the problem child knows the rules better then anyone else.

See them porting, Obviously your using cheats to see him.
See someone botting, Naa, that guild named Paul on every TLP farming Ice Giants 24/7 is really just 12 friends, But "Paul" got to see you say one slightly bad word in chat, ban for you.

Many other situations often result in a win for the cheater and the player base knows it so well they just ignore them now a days.

I'm playing PQ even though I have no classic EQ nostalgia. For some reason, I can't stop playing this dumb old game. I'm in as a gnome necro named Goolius, shout out if ya see me out there slaying kobolds.

I do have a question though that I am hoping someone could shed some light on. Sometimes, other people type out what looks like gibberish and I can't for the life of me figure out why. They have all been gnomes, like me. One magician I was just grouped with said this "Im goCna go yXkl BZnch ill JI back", which I can get the meaning of, but why does it show up like that?

did Pyzjin this morning, holy poo poo Secrets completely trivialized this camp to the point of stupidity lol. We got 4 pops in 10 minutes once 9pm hit.

i liked the solo self-found and hardcore stuff because it added a fun flavor without impacting people. but i'm not sure what's up with all of the custom content like the null class that can't use weapons, equipment, spells, etc. stuff like 500p for surname changes or gender changes is kinda odd but ok.

i didn't bother with the halloween event aside from using it as ersatz fast travel but it seemed ok. single charge of a mount or whatever seems fine-ish (the ultimate out-of-era item for a HC character, i guess), at least it wasn't raining AoNs.

we're sliding fast into weird custom content server land, pals!
