Some game making and livery building. Big_Soda's been hard at work producing liveries more pertinent for our theater, and here's the latest masterpiece. The Argentine Navy needs its own refueling asset, and while we do have the KC-130 in the game, there's no proper skins. Those who do refuel will look at those skins very closely, so it's a cool thing to have it proper. In 2010, there was no Argentine Navy refueling capacity anymore. It's borrowed KC-130s were given to the air force a long time ago because the carrier was retired and there was nothing to tank off. When the A-4s flew, without a carrier, they sometimes buddy tanked. So, this skin is a peek to the past, in a way. However, in our game world, the ARA Veinticinco de Mayo did not get retired quite as early, and the need for Argentine naval aviation's fuel needs remains pertinent. Thus, we can assume the Navy never gave back the use of the C-130s to the Air Force, and kept the few it had permamently. While the KC-130 can't land on a boat, it can most definitely take off from a Naval Air Station and follow the fleet for a long time, and provide for other naval refueling needs. Thanks to Big_Soda, you guys get this sick nasty livery.

Admiral Ileana Maria Sampaio South American Combined Armada Naval Orders 23 FEB 10: Having resupplied, the ARA Veinticinco de Mayo and the Chilean Fleet is ordered to sail SE to the mouth of the Gulf of Xaultegua (53°08'22"S 73°23'59"W). The CNS Aspirante Isaza is ordered to sail SE along the Magellan Strait to its previous PICKET position near Isla Carlos III (53°32'51"S 72°34'26"W). Ford Squadron aboard the ARA 25 de Mayo is ordered to prepare for an AIR STRIKE targeting the PLAN replenishment oiler Qinghaihu to the south of Punta Arenas. Destruction of this objective may induce critical fuel shortages on the Punta Arenas offensive. Additional targets may include a PLAGF HQ-7 SAM site to the north of Port Harris and/or a PLAN patrol ship designated Corvette 01, which protect the vulnerable Magellan Strait supply route. The CNS O'Higgins is advised that a PLAN anti-submarine warfare corvette, likely Type 037, is sailing towards it via the Cockburn Channel, and to prepare an AMBUSH against it. If possible, the CNS Carrera S-22 may be able to join in the attack. Be aware that helicopter ASW assets have also been operating nearby, so also be ready to make a quick exit. «Irse a pique antes que rendir el pabellón!« Kaal fucked around with this message at 04:47 on Nov 8, 2023 |

General of the Combined Armies, CSAD Orders for EA Army Now that we've had some time to lick our wounds and mobilize some new BDE's to the front, we're going to shift to more of an active defense. Do not misunderstand, we are nowhere near in a place to be waging a full counteroffensive with the balance of forces on the ground. What we can do is engage in limited engagements and raids to punish poor positioning and overextended units, and then fall back when we draw the full weight of their combat power. My staff and I have identified one such opportunity. Please see the attached battle plan for the East side of AO Arrow The XI Mech and I Armored are going to quickly advance down the highway, and on the morning of the 23rd, in concert with some CAS from the air force, we're going to try to attrite and weaken the PLA 3rd BDE. This is a fairly light motorized infantry BDE, in softer skinned vehicles with some support elements. We are going to make an assault with the armored BN's leading the charge with the goal of forcing through to the air defense BN on their Eastern flank to neutralize the Buk TELAR's, as well as focusing on destroying or degrading the two infantry BN's to the East. I suspect the PLA Armored BDE will not sit idle after we make our move. Once they start engaging us, we are going to make a delaying withdrawal down the highway while still keeping pressure on the PLA. When their counterattack seems to culminate, we'll re-evaluate the positioning of our forces. The Mech BDE will fall back more northwards up Y-485, and the Armored BDE will fall back along the HWY. The XI Mech BDE is ordered to advance down the HWY to Santa Maria at 52.5989°S 70.36944°W, and hold there as a reserve force. The Astros battery will wait for the XI BDE, and then join them down the highway. It will deploy as per the battle map, and will prioritize firing a barrage on the BUK TELAR's once the Air Force's AFAC(AFO?) calls in their coordinates, Right before the armored and Mech advance. One of the self propelled artillery BN's will focus on assisting the assault with fires, and the other BN will put it's full effort towards counterbattery fire on the PLA's artillery BN. It will retreat to it's former position on the bluffs at 52.53149°S 70.2959°W once our assault has culminated. The 2x Avenger SAM's are to withdraw to Supply Base "Bolsa de Tenancia" and set up an air defense perimeter there, and the Roland's and Gepards will join the IX and I BDE's to cover their assault. Orders for EC The Chilean battlegroup is to work with their Engineer units to start digging in on their line along this same reference. Please ensure the Infantry and Armored units are in front of the support elements, and that the Chaparrals are dispersed amongst the formation. NASAMS The NASAMS battery with the Chilean BG is ordered to ensure a spacing of at least ~10 km back from the FLOT. Seamos libres, que lo demás no importa nada! Sorry everyone, meant to have this up nearly a day ago but I went to bed early instead and then the internet went out nationwide. "Finally! It's done" I exclaimed "Could we have timed the overhaul of our only remote sensing platform any worse than to begin the day before war broke out?" It had honestly been something of a quiet embarrassment being subject to the whims of the navy, or worse the 'generosity' of the United States for so much of our intelligence. However with our surveillance Lear-jet 35A now fully operational after its poorly timed overhaul we're finally back in action. "Of course" I sighed with frustration after noting the Brazilian R-99 finally arrived at O'Higgins Airbase, late last night. "Just in time for the 2nd Reconnaissance Squadron to return to operability." Odd timing aside, might as well put these much desired assets to use. Colonel Tomas "Shan" Rivera Fuerza Aérea Ecuatoriana Vice Commander of the CACC AIR TASKING: Learjet 35A 2nd Reconnaissance Squadron (Learjet 35A) is to rebase from Paraná Military Air Base (General Justo José de Urquiza Airport) to O'Higgins Airbase for future operations. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniela Figueroa Scholz, who was born on May 12, 1950, in Santiago, Santiago Metropolitan, Chile. She left this world on February 22, 2010, leaving behind a legacy of courage and dedication. Daniela was the beloved daughter of Juan and Julia Scholz. Throughout her life, she remained devoted to her family, cherishing the love and support they provided. Despite not having children of her own, Daniela devoted herself to her friends, family and llamas (Paco, Peanut and Pesto) ensuring their happiness and wellbeing. Daniela began her studies at Santiago State High School, where she demonstrated her intellect and potential. Driven by her passion for aviation, she continued her education at the Air War Academy. With unwavering determination, she pursued her dreams and graduated with honours. Following her education, Daniela joined the esteemed Fuerza Aérea de Chile, where she served her country with distinction. Her unwavering commitment to duty and her remarkable skills propelled her to attain the rank of General de Aviación. Throughout her career, Daniela's dedication and expertise were evident, leaving a lasting impact on her colleagues and the nation she served. Tragically, Daniela's life was cut short due to a devastating cruise missile strike while inspecting the Rio Gallegos airbase. This sudden loss has shaken the hearts of all who knew her, leaving a void that can never be filled. We mourn the untimely loss of Daniela Scholz, a remarkable woman whose remarkable accomplishments and extraordinary character will forever be remembered. In this hour of grief, we extend our deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and all those who were fortunate enough to know her. Paco, Peanut and Pesto will be cared for by the members of VENOM squadron as mascots in honour of her passing.

Admiral Ileana Maria Sampaio South American Combined Armada quote:EK - Send along a condolence note to Daniela's family. I'm sure they miss her terribly. It was a bad business. Those cruise missiles are wreaking havoc on our airfields - we have to disperse more. See if you can send along some llama feed for Pesto - I always liked that scamp. Mission Briefing for Ford Squadron (23 FEB 10): Operation Milk Run With the ARA Veinticinco de Mayo topped back up, we're ready to get back into the thick of it. There's news of an oil tanker making its way through the Magellan Strait. If you can, let's take it out. However, it's being guarded by a variety of defenses. It'll take a wary approach to see how close we can get to it - maybe we'll have to content ourselves with picking off more of their patrols. Fortunately, the Air Force is conducting some major operations to the north of Punta Arenas that should hopefully draw the attention of most of the major defenses. That should give you enough time to probe forward, hit what you can, and get out. Ford will depart the ARA Mayo and conduct a sweep of the Magellan Strait to our SE (W1). A Type 052b DDG was previously spotted in the area and has conspicuously dropped off our scopes. Maybe it decided to poke its nose in our direction. If so, take advantage of the fjord cover and take it out. This would probably mean expending all your munitions and require an early return to base, but knocking off another PLAN destroyer would be a feather in our cap. If the Strait is clear, proceed to the Magdalena Channel. (W2) There, you may find a patrol corvette (likely a Grisha) and hopefully the oiler Qinghaihu that we are looking for. The replenishment vessel probably already deposited her load at Punta Arenas and is returning to pick up more from Ushuaia or Port Williams. If so, we can pick her off as she sails south. However, if she's heading north then she'll probably be too well-covered by air defense to deal with. Note that it is possible that the oiler has been armed with some light CIWS defenses. Lastly, if no target has presented itself, or if you still have fuel and munitions available, then a final target is possible - the HQ-7 SAM system (W3) protecting Almirante Schroeders Airport (SCDW) to the north of Port Harris. The air defense array is deadly, but naval intelligence believes that it has a fatal flaw: the low-level site is blocked to the southwest by Monte Graves. A careful pilot could conduct an air strike from behind the 400m edifice - using the terrain-following-radar and the cover of the Rio Chico as it leads you to within 8 km of the target. A quick bombing of the HQ-7 site, followed by a rapid egress to the west, could be feasible. However, be aware that there is a Big Bird / S-300 SAM system on Tierra del Fuego whose range extends only slightly to the east of W3, as well as a Type 054a FFG that is operating just to the north. Those areas should not be entered, as they are highly dangerous. Additionally, J-7 fighters have been reported in the area, and even a couple J-11s. Hopefully they should be drawn to the massive attack well to your north, but be aware of the risk and use the fjords for what cover that you can. All CAP aircraft have been devoted to the Punta Arenas operation, and none are available for the Navy at this time. The Chilean Fleet will be sailing east as you conduct your mission. Once you've completed your strike, return to the ARA Mayo near Golfo Xaultegua. Arco KC-130 will be operating above the ARA Mayo if refueling is needed. This operation contains a number of unknowns and relies upon the flight leader's discretion about what can be achieved. Good luck pilots, and come back home safely. Forecast is partially cloudy. Scattered/broken. Expect 50-65 percent cover. «Irse a pique antes que rendir el pabellón!« Kaal fucked around with this message at 01:42 on Nov 10, 2023 |

CRUISE MISSILE STRIKE 2340hrs on the 21 FEB 2010. PLA launched retaliatory cruise missile strikes, hitting Rio Gallegos Air Base again. The NASAMS system nearby that had received a PLANAF anti-radiation missile earlier was already degraded, and only intercepted 3 of the incoming 7 missiles. Two landed somewhat short, one hit the taxiway, damaging an F-5, and one landed on the parking lot in front of the terminal, killing the CSAD Air Force component commander, General Scholz, immediately. Her assistant, Colonel Rivera, was severely injured, and his condition is unclear at this point. The local police have cordoned off the scene. In light of this, the Chilean Ministry of Defence has decided to offer its last NASAMS system to be used at the commander's discretion, if so choosed. Supreme Commander Carlos, this NASAMS is the only significant air defence system protecting Santiago, the Chilean Capital. If you so choose, it will be made available to you, and you can organize transport for it ASAP. concise posted:STRIKERS UZI, we have our initial guidance. This will be a tricky one, but doable. We are engaging infantry battalion targets as we can spot/find them along the front. Risks: -Flying along the enemy front line is among the more dangerous routes due to heater, AAA, and combined arms for air defense fires. We will be flying very low once we commit, trading accuracy and effect to regain some survivability. Plan very low ingress toward targets, then slight popup, get your rockets off, and egress North. -Multiple blue egress routes cross our path, so if you see a fast mover, double check your VID before you flip that dogfight switch and send a heater into an unidentified dot. -Try not to get blown up by other flights' bombs. -Heaters. Carry 100% flares, no chaff, use a program or toggle that CMS liberally. This is one pass, so no need to carry a bunch of unused flares back to base. -Failing to find the enemy. Infantry along the front could be tough to spot even in clear conditions, but it's likely too risky to loiter looking for targets while inside some unlocated SA-9 or SA-18 WEZ. Take off SAWG on TACAN 69X. Push 220 M to PLATE Fly 204 M to COLO Switch TACAN to 66X (BULLS), fly to BULLS 240 M for ~53 (back az 60) This is the final muster/hold point, west of red forces, with a wet gap between us and red forces. This is what the view toward the battlefield looks like from about 13,000 feet, with approximate locations of Enemy 1-4 and 2-4 IN BNs. The lagunas are rather obvious in DCS, but obviously our ability to see any of that drops through the floor once down low, so hope is to spot some units at range, get low and preflare, popup and attack, egress north. The good news is that even though it could be very difficult to tell one enemy formation from another, this is interdiction rather than CAS. We're not really in danger of striking blue ground forces unless you veer wildly off course. Return legs: Egress North COLO direct to SAWG, TACAN back to 69X. Additional notes: -I will use 60ms delay on rockets. It's not a one-press salvo, but you get maybe 2-3 short squeezes. -Set your flare programs, if desired, and your rocket delay on your kneeboard before you power up the plane. I do this all before battery power, otherwise sometimes it won't let you even if you turn the battery back off and engines are off. I plan the program of 4 flares at a time, 3 second interval. -Double-triple-check your flares, gun ammo. We've had a dodgy crew chief loading us without gun ammo or putting AIM-9Bs on from time to time as a cruel joke. -Hydras != FFARs. For this I'll run HE pure instead of HE/HEAT mix. -I could be convinced to change weapon loadout maybe, but without a clearer target location and threat idea, I'm not hot on snakeyes or dive-bombing. Any questions, concerns can reply here, but for small stuff or general tactics discussion, the Tiger channel or combat flight plans is more convenient. Any changes made based on feedback will get changed and quoted in thread before go-time.

Able posted:Premission Intelligenace request No indications of Snow Drift. Buk emissions have been intermittent; best guess is that the PLA has become much more mobile with their tactical SAM systems after losing some do JDAM strikes on positions that hadn't moved for days. Buks have mostly been emitting from 5-15 nm behind the front line, or further. Likely primarily defending lines of communications, C2, and logistical nodes. These will be for target marking and once depleted will spot for additional targets. Flight Members will have AGM-65's and AIM-9M's. It is unclear which type of AGM-65's we have available so we will attempt to use the best one in stock. PLAN We depart El Calafate through FORK and hold at COLO for Venom SEAD call. Once Venom gives us a big fatvipe thumbs up, we will proceed to our target area near these lakes. We will have a waypoint near. Once there Flight Lead will use the TGP to drop GBU's for smoke signal and also share SteerPoints so flight members can slew AGM-65's onto targets. After good effect we will move to COLO and provide CAP as needed by CONDOR. OPERATOR CHOICE - Want more AGM-65's? Go ahead and load a double. The triple is a lie and does not exist. Admiral Ileana Maria Sampaio South American Combined Armada Flight Charter Air Tasking Order (23 FEB 10) The South American Combined Armada is sending a representative liaison officer (LNO) from Port Belgrano Naval Base to Comodoro Rivadavia to communicate with the British captain of the HMS Invincible directly. Additionally, we have authorized the contracting of the Tsavliris Salvage Group, a Greek expert salvor company that operates in Argentina and around the world. Their salvage masters must be airlifted from their Buenos Aires regional headquarters to the carrier to ascertain the current situation of the HMS Invincible and advise on how to free her. To this end, the Armada de la República Argentina (ARA) has coordinated with the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) to provide urgently needed transport via a light aircraft operated by the Direccion de Aeronautica de la Provincia de Buenos Aires. It will take off from Ministro Pistarini International Airport (SAEZ), travel to Gobernador Edgardo Castello Airport (SAVV) to refuel, then continue on to General Enrique Mosconi International Airport (SAVC). Note that due to the unpressurized cabin, the comfort of the passengers, and the long duration flight, a flight ceiling of 3,000 m / 10,000 ft is recommended. Aircraft: Cessna 208B Grand Caravan Operator: DA Buenos Aires; Registration: LV-WMI; Serial #: B-0398 Distance: 1,435 km / 774 nmi Payload: PAX - 7, Cargo - Personal effects and 200 kg surveying equipment Optional MSFS Livery: https://flightsim.to/file/57241/wright-air-services-n900wa-black-square-cessna-208b The group will be met with ground transportation to the Port Authority (Administracion Portuaria del Puerto de Comodoro Rivadavia) some 12 km away. Given the open-ended nature of this flight charter, overnight accommodation will be provided for the pilot in addition to the passengers. With tourists mostly having fled the area, and the Royal Navy sailors largely remaining at sea while the HMS Invincible remains so vulnerable, the Lucania Palazzo Hotel (a four star in downtown Comodora Rivadavia) has happily agreed to host the contingent (note: SACA will not pay for the upgraded suites). Further ATOs may be issued, based on the survey results by Mamakis and his team. Lucania Palazzo's Concierge posted:A 3-minute walk from the South Atlantic Ocean coast, this laid-back hotel is a 10-minute walk from Comodoro Rivadavia Cathedral and 4 km from Estadio Municipal de Comodoro Rivadavia sports venue. Relaxed, airy rooms offer free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and minifridges; some feature ocean views. Suites add lounge areas, while upgraded quarters include whirlpool tubs and separate living rooms. Complimentary amenities include a breakfast buffet served in a modern bar. There's also a warm, bright restaurant serving Patagonian-Mediterranean cuisine. Parking is available. «Irse a pique antes que rendir el pabellón!« Kaal fucked around with this message at 21:15 on Nov 11, 2023 |

Operation Daniela's Fury -- ABM Buzzard debrief ABM Buzzard debrief Understanding of plan: Venom 2 arrives on station and launches HARMs at radars – condition DELTA – Panther 1 and 2 arrive on station and destroy SA-11s completely – condition CHARLIE – strikers (including Uzi, nominally under condition ALPHA) sweep once over target area and go home. (In other words, sequential, not simultaneous). Assets took off at roughly 1800—requested Venom 2 and Panther to expedite and all other assets to hold as they reached orbits, as their strikes were required first. Observed launches of HARMs from Venom 2 but was unable to confirm hits. Called for Panther to expedite after HARMs launched and Venom 2 pressed attack (including loss of Venom 2-1)—post-op debrief noted that one SA-11 site was destroyed but was unable to verify loss. Held striker assets back repeatedly until Uzi called low on fuel and Panther 2 called to go and ordered all assets to go. Had no visibility on non-radar targets (everything not an SA-11 or HQ-7), so could not assist other strike assets. Panther 1 called for coordinates on SA-11—required long communication time to provide coordinates (first in DMS, then DM.m). Ended up vectoring them over previously destroyed SA-11 site. Also controlled Ford some distance south, and had to get cued by ABM Condor to track hostile air for them. They overflew unknown near CNS Aspirante and engaged former silkworm site. Possible changes to future planning: Call for expedite destabilized timing of operation—should not have called for that. SEAD/DEAD is timing sensitive—staggering initial takeoffs and/or establishing time-on-target for hold points and target launches may be necessary for complex operations. (This is also true for strikes which must be simultaneous, e.g. anti-shipping attacks such as prior mission) F-16s and all other aircraft operating from El Calafate could possibly take off earlier, or all other flights be delayed to ensure F-16s get on station first. (Strikers were already holding orbit before Venom 2 and Panther were on station, which is why I requested expedite.) Did in fact observe SA-11 radars on ABM map—should have been more forthcoming to vector Venom 2 and Panther onto targets.

Panther 1 AAR Yooper, Rowen, and BurntCornMuffin - F-16A (1-1 w/ TGP & 4XGBU-12, 1-2/1-3 4XAGM-65H) We held at Calafate and took off last. Moved to SP2, then on the way to SP3 got the call to proceed. Was vectored to the west of our initial search area. Clouds proved challenging and we had few opportunities to search-scan from a distance. We searched the initial area as vectored and didn't see much. I located a truck depot and both Rowen and Burnt got good effect on it later. Unfortunately I didn't locate any of the HQ-7's or BUK's. The closest I came was to see an SA-11 contrail, but then I lost it in the clouds and when I came back into the next cloud hole the contrail had cleared. What Went Well Flight worked well and communicated good. We did a practice round to test Mav's the day prior and this was helpful for all of us. Sharing steerpoints enabled package members to get onto target and get kills. This was 100% a huge force multiplier. What Didn't We had a very difficult times finding targets, even with the tpod. Anything in the trees was basically invisible. Trying to find anything with the AGM-65H was also nearly impossible, there was just too much area to cover. Coordinating with other flights was challenging, the pace to get coordinates from the ABM with the mission tempo was challenging. Sharing steerpoints between Venom-Panther would be better. Next Time Try to narrow down the search area as much as possible and have individual steerpoints for each potential target area / front. So at least we could have said "OK, it's near Steer 7". Use the TPOD as our mobile JTAC and use laser Mav's with flight members. This depends on the Flight Lead to find targets, and given anything less than good weather would have been really tough. Communicate better with my flight. I got task saturated hunting for targets and did not coordinate well with my team. This was amplified as time went and we dropped below the clouds. At this point we weren't a flight of 3 F-16's, but 3 F-16's flying in the same area. Could have potentially gone old school with CBU's if we had good visibility on target sites. Without knowing the target area better though this would be tough. All in all it was fun, if tough, and we didn't take any losses. Hats off to Rowen and Burnt for getting some kills.

TO: THEATER COMMANDER FAST FORWARD 30 HOURS It is 2200hrs, mostly clear night, moonlit, on February 24th. Most of the Combined Air Combat Command is licking its wound and working non-stop to maintain the planes after the big Alpha strike on the 23rd. The Red Team seizes the opportunity, and goes for an interrupt turn. ALERT ALERT ALERT Multiple pop up groups all over Tierra del Fuego and South Atlantic. Nearest hostiles are 80 nautical miles from the FEBA, with a vanguard strike package of 8x J-7s and 4x JH-7s coming approaching from Rio Grande's direction. CURRENT STATUS: in your nightly CAP, you had a small force maintaining some barrier patrols: Colt 1, 2x MiG-29S, over AO Bolt, half fuel. Uzi 1, 2x F-5, over AO Arrow, half fuel. In addition, two M2000s from Pontiac 1 are currently lined up on Rio Turbio runway, prepared to switch out with with Uzi, and two F-16As from Panther 1 are hot on the runway at El Calafate prepared to switch out with Colt. The E-3 had just landed at El Calafate. It will take at least 20 minutes or more to get another E-3 to take off into the night sky. Remaining planes will start cold in their parking, but their loadouts are pre-determined from what maintenance and ammo had ready to go at a moment's notice. The pilots can expect to find out their loadout as they get to the airplane. Out of Character: Next gameday is saturday the 18th. Instead of planning and preparing ops on their initiative, Blue team is responding to a Red Team alpha strike. The detected enemy pop up groups and their track, sorry for crude drawing. AAR for Uzi Flight Myself Breaky Vaha Radintorov Mission: Strike 1-4 and 2-4 IN BNs. (center of enemy lines) Outcome: Heavily struck 7th IN BN (enemy left flank) I'll call it qualified success in that we didn't find/strike the specific infantry battalions assigned to us, but we did find a battalion assigned to the package as a whole and did significant damage and egressed alive. The battalions we were assigned were a bit downslope, and between trees and threat, hard to find. I'll tell the commander that it's hard to read bumper numbers and PLA uniform battalion patches from up here. What went well -Strike planning was sound enough. We approached from off axis, away from blue units (minimize fratricide) and away from red units (they shoot at you). Fuel to payload was about right. -Navigation. It's all TACAN (and hopping between them) and geographical references, and it worked well. -Wingmen kept with the flight very well. -Even if it was suppression by way of expending their rounds so they had to conduct reload or return to a hide sight, the Buk systems were not shooting at us when we went in, so thank you Venom / Panther. -Once we committed, we just used our rockets on 7th IN BN and got out. I knew full well it wasn't our assigned target. However, I also knew I couldn't see our assigned target, and Chevy, who was tasked to hit 7th IN BN, had suffered losses early on, so I figured hitting the 7th was still worthwhile and close enough to commander's intent. --First volley of rockets killed the AAA in the enemy group we hit -No one died, and no one had to divert. Pre-flares w/ program and basic MG/AAA tactics kept us untouched, as far as I can tell. We destroyed some AAA, multiple lightly armored infantry transport vehicles and multiple supply vehicles supporting 7th BN. Breaky also damaged an HQ-7 site with cannonfire. Fuel didn't allow for a picture perfect reform on the way out, but everyone was able to link up at least visually and head home in a loose trail. What didn't go well -Some confusion over comms about when strike package was clear to go engage. -No harm came of it, but I was under the impression that both Chevy and Springfield had already loosed their ordnance when we rolled in. Instead, Springfield lined up a rocket run on the same target as us and Breaky flew within 600-700 feet of a few dozen airborne rockets fired from Springfield. I doubt Springfield could've even seen us when they fired the rockets, so I am not saying they were being cavalier. We'll just chalk this up as a pincer attack... -Didn't find our assigned targets. But to be honest, I didn't look for it that hard once I saw the AAA fire and one of the Chevies go down 1 nm north of the unit we attacked. We had heard of a couple lost aircraft already, and I knew Chevy hadn't been able to finish their target, so I essentially switched targets on the fly and hammered the enemy infantry battalion we could see clearly. We did a quick look to see if there were other obvious infantry targets, which is how Breaky strafed an HQ-7 site, but then we egressed rather than press our luck based on threat and fuel. -I should learn more/all of the RWR codes. Not great to be in the cockpit wondering what the hell an MR code is on the F-5 RWR as it alerts you (it was a Chinese ship very far away, probably agitated by Ford). Overall fun mission, thanks to wonko for doing setup and planning, ABM crew for doing the thankless chairforce work, and flight members for following me around on long orbit legs while I did 8th grade geometry and looked for bodies of water. Media: Lots of Hydras and bonus S-25s from Springfield. Destroying the AA truck on the way in: Breaky's big adventure among a hailstorm of S-25 rockets from the heavens (also his hydras perfectly bullseyed the armored truck he was aiming at) Breaky did follow my guidance: mlmp08 posted:Risks: Preflight selfie Back at home base. Chevy debrief Mission result Mostly failure. What happened * Took off too early from Puerto Natales. I was waiting lined on the runway to give SEAD and CAP time to arrive on site. However, other striker AI planes started entering the runway. Fearing that it would become either impossible or dangerous to take off later, I took off. Thus, I arrived at COLO before SEAD. * Due to me arriving way too early on COLO, I was running down the clock until I needed to RTB. This also contributed to Buzzard asking for the F16s to expedite, which increased their fuel burn and caused timing problems. * I kept circling above the lake, waiting for the message that all was clear. In this time, it seemed that the SEAD/DEAD-teams were busy hunting down the last one or two SAM sites in the area. I could periodically hear those sites track me. However, AI planes were overflying the AO seemingly unbothered, and SEAD continued to hammer them. * When Panther and/or Buzzard finally called to go ahead, I had just a few minutes of loiter time left. But there was still intermittend RWR warnings. Thus, I was faced with two choices: dive down and risk being shot down, or continue loitering and RTB without having done anything. Thinking that a SU25T was cheap and Vaha wouldn't be mad at me, I chose the dangerous option. * I got a missile launch warning just after firing the first rocket. Already low and slow, there was no chance evading. Frustratingly, I could hear and see Uzi flight approaching the AO completely unmolested by what shot me down. I choose to interpret this as me exhausting the last SAM before the AI had to reload, enabling Uzi to unleash a devastating strike. Victories Destroyed and/or damaged some trucks. (cope on) In a way, me eating that missile might have saved Uzi flight (cope ff) Losses SU25T shot down. Pilot ejected, walking home, snacking on some pilot rations. Evaluation and recommendations * Primary cause was that the SAM site was not suppressed. * Had the SU25T taken some anti-radiation missiles, it could have helped in the job. * Contributing cause was that the different flights were not as coordinated as they would have been. * This was rooted chiefly in a lack of a good timetable and perhaps some confusion about the precise meaning of keywords Recommendation 1: Implement a time table. Stagger flight times such that flights will arrive and can quickly form up and execute their task. Either by measuring out the time, or by having related flights take off one after the other, from the same airfield. Recommendation 2: On game-night, go over the code words and take 2 minutes to discuss the game plan. Recommandation 3: Make use of the SU25T's potent anti-radiation capability. It can carry 2 HARM-equivalents, plus a couple of smaller ones.

ARMA 3 TIE-IN Mission Real time: 19th November, 2023 @ 2000 UTC Game time: 0700 Local Time, 25 February 2010 Air Goons Discord Signup sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jOSz0U-zNviZzIqRkLXsW3S2MP6s9Uc3nc9Rodi8o9o/edit#gid=195081506 quote:TRANSMISSION As established in the prior lore, a map was found from a Chinese officer on Falklands. As the SBS got back on boat, the Agincourt sailed north to establish a link with the UK's home to inform that a new type anti-satellite system installation was possibly the Chinese plan. It would be placed somewhere in Angola to offer a position to intercept a significant number of overflying military and spy satellites UK and the US were using. HMS Agincourt managed to transmit this info, and then it turned back and headed South again. The UK tried to get intelligence from the area, but jamming and the risk of satellite interception for lower orbit overflys meant that while the location was narrowed down, the precise spot is not known. Angola is under the PLA's control, with a large number of South African, Kenyan, and Namibian units having retreated together to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, closer to the French colonies and the expeditionary french troops. As small special forces team was in South-Eastern Cameroon when the UK got into contact with it. The 1st Commando of the Namibian Special Forces has a team, ready to respond. The team intends to travel through Gabon, and then the DRC and make its way to Northern Occupied Angola. They will meet a small team of Royal Navy's Special Boat Service in the town of N'dalatando, and traveling further South, a team of South African SF in Waku Kungo. There, they will set out towards the town of Chongoroi, Angola. This is where our Arma 3 mission will take place, with the heroes of the story being Namibian SF from before the 2012-funding update. A mix of Pact and NATO gear, old and new. Today, in 2023, the Namibian SF looks like anyone else, with FAST-helmets, MultiCam, and M4s. Boring. Back in 2010, they still had more unique gear with various AKs and RPGs and using a 3-color desert uniform. The team is made of grizzled veterans of WW3, ready to tackle any challenge. Veterans of fighting in DRC, Namibia, Angola, and South Africa against the PLA, they're eager to strike back at the enemy. Welcome to Chongoroi, Angola. The Arma 3 map for the curious is here: https://jetelain.github.io/Arma3Map/chongo.html It will be part of the mod pack as you download it. Your team will arrive to the northern edge of the map. Your task is to locate the PLA Anti-Satellite Facility with its radars, comm towers, and silos, and destroy it. In addition, blowing up the likely attack helicopters at the Chongoroi airport will be useful to avoid a heavy QRF response. It is known that PLA uses the airport for bringing in supplies and troops, so various convoys or officer vehicles are likely traveling between the site and the airport, and could be used for finding the location itself. Furthermore, the PLA maintains a small garrison nearby and does patrols. It is unlikely that they are well-prepared for an assault this far back behind the lines, so the opposition will not be impossible to defeat with surprise. Major Yooper, you're the commander of this operation. You have the Ranger group of the 1st Commando of Namibian SF, divided into the direct action Romeo team, and the scout team Juliet. Juliet team is wearing civilian clothing, and using an inconspicuous vehicle. Their helmets and body armor are in the vehicle trunk, as are their weapons. Romeo team is kitted out for direct action. Assisting you is Sierra 1, a two-man sniper team from South Africa, and a four-person team from the UK's Royal Navy Special Boat Squadron, called Sierra-2. Each team will have a real-time SIGINT-tablet that will warn the operator of Chinese vehicles, and can be used to avoid patrols and bases. Juliet team however can pass enemy troops under cover and provice scouting information to higher. The team's four operators are not only in Civilian clothng, but fluent in English, Afrikaans, German, Otijherero, Oswiwambo, and Setswana. At least! They will be more than competent to navigate any encounter with locals, and to avoid suspicion. Locations of two PLA garrisons are known, as is the airport. Rest is up to you, Major Yooper. Subject: Post-Mission Update Briefing Commander, After an exhaustive analysis of post-combat data and careful review of the insightful post-flight debriefs (After Action Reports - AAR’s), I present the following updated operational overview. Operational Map (Light Red): Corvettes: Two corvettes observed departing to the west, suggesting a potential link to the sinking of their sister ship. Recommend further investigation. Frigate: One damaged frigate identified, previously serving as an escort for littoral ships in the fjord. Littoral Class Ships: Five littoral class ships detected heading towards Punta Arenas Port. Cargo Ships and Oil Tanker: Two cargo ships and one additional oil tanker spotted en route to Punta Arenas Port. SA-11 Surface-to-Air System: Identification of a second SA-11 surface-to-air system located south of Punta Arenas. Punta Arenas Airport: Destruction of three HQ-7 SAMs confirmed. Two corvettes have repositioned to safeguard Punta Arenas airspace with their missile systems. Western Punta Arenas: Cargo Ships and Littoral Ship: Three cargo ships (potentially littoral class due to location) and one littoral ship identified west of Punta Arenas in close proximity to the 6th Marine Brigade. Possible movement of the brigade. Unit Status: 4th Brigade: 7th Battalion: Reduced to 20% strength, deemed combat ineffective. 11th Artillery Battalion: Suffered a significant reduction to 10% combat power, classified as combat ineffective. 9th Air Defense Artillery Battalion: Lost one BUK TELAR. 10th Support Battalion: Experienced 70-80% losses. 5th Brigade: 8th Air Defense Artillery Battalion: Lost one BUK TELAR, two HQ-7, and supporting equipment. 1st Brigade: 4th Infantry Battalion: Sustained 30% losses. 3rd Brigade: 2nd Air Defense Artillery Battalion: Lost three (3) HQ-7 systems and support equipment. The current situation underscores the necessity for strategic reassessment and potential adjustments to our operational approach. I recommend prompt consideration of the aforementioned details in the formulation of our next course of action. Awaiting further directives. Subject: Strategic Assessment and Future Operational Recommendations Commander, The recent engagement has undoubtedly dealt a significant blow to the enemy, impairing their capacity to sustain a northern ground push. Nevertheless, the enemy's capability to deploy numerically superior forces remains a persistent threat, and if not countered strategically, they could grind our forces down, rendering us incapable of holding territory. In light of the recent operation, I propose a more focused approach with our limited forces. The dispersed nature of the recent attack across the entire enemy front yielded limited tangible results in proportion to our losses. To optimize our resources, I recommend concentrating our efforts on specific enemy Brigade (BDE) formations. The successful west-to-east attack by friendly forces against the 4th Brigade demonstrated promising results, with fewer surface-to-air missile (SAM) threats encountered. This success could be indicative of a viable tactic to exploit in future engagements. I suggest a thorough review of this approach to extract valuable insights and replicate its execution in subsequent operations. By concentrating our efforts on specific enemy BDE formations, we stand to inflict more substantial damage while minimizing our own losses. This strategic shift aligns with our imperative to preserve our limited forces and capitalize on their effectiveness. I recommend convening a comprehensive operational planning session to delve deeper into the success of the recent friendly forces' attack and to formulate a refined strategy for future engagements. This will allow us to leverage our strengths and exploit potential vulnerabilities in the enemy's disposition. Awaiting your guidance on the next steps. Respectfully,

Admiral Ileana Maria Sampaio South American Combined Armada Naval Situation Report 24 FEB 10 The recent success of Operation Milk Run is to be lauded. Ford 1 was able to patrol the strait, discover a large and previously-undetected littoral fleet, attack and effectively destroy a Type 054a frigate that was anchoring the defense of the Magdalena Channel, as well as damage the radar of a separate corvette, then discover and attack a PLAN tug and nascent Silkworm anti-ship site. Though the nominal target of the mission, the PLA replenishment ship Qinghaihu, was not within range - it and other cargo vessels were detected moving north towards Punta Arenas and may be subjected to further attacks before they are able to make delivery. While a pair of Skyhawks were destroyed during the mission, with one pilot killed instantly by a ship-launched missile, the other pilot was able to eject after an unsuccessful carrier landing and was quickly recovered by the ARA Veinticinco de Mayo. Ford A-4 Skyhawks conducting a force recon flight along the Magellan Strait discovered a group of PLAN troops once again attempting to set up anti-ship assets on the Isla Carlos III. The flight attacked the troops, who in turn are believed to have surrendered to the CNS Aspirante Isaza corvette that was sent to patrol nearby. Argentine Marines aboard the ARA Veinticinco de Mayo are ordered to use their Bell UH-1 Iroquois helicopters to secure Isla Carlos III POWs, and assess the Silkworm weapons cache and other captured supplies. If possible, the reinforced marine company shall use the Silkworms and their organic air defense assets to defend the island against further attacks from the southeast. CNS Carrera is ordered to join the CNS O’Higgins and sail together, and continue interdicting the Magdalena supply line. They are advised of the latest maritime intel, and in particular the course and heading of two anti-submarine Grisha-type corvettes believed to be sailing nearby. Ambushing these ships may help to deplete the 2nd PLAN Fleet and spread out their patrol resources. They cannot keep losing ships for long without losing their effective naval presence and being forced to withdraw. Having consolidated with its surface action group, the recently-refitted Brazilian fleet is already reporting supply shortages. The captain of the NAel Minas Gerais is asked to clarify the situation. They are ordered to convene with the nearby Supply Fleet East and resolve the logistical issues. Both Argentine and Brazilian Grumman S-2 Trackers are available for carrier onboard delivery if critical resupply is required. The fleet must be ready to sail and fight. The crew of the cargo ship NDCC Almirante Saboia “Sierra” were rescued, but the ship remains at sea. By a stroke of luck, the ARA Alférez Sobral aviso tug (made famous in the Falklands War ) was based in Ushuaia but happened to be at sea when the PLA attack occurred - scheduled to exchange maritime patrol zones in February 2010 with the Mar de Plata-based ARA Francisco de Gurruchaga. The two ships have reported in near Puerto Deseado and are ordered to sail to the “Sierra” and take her into dock at the nearby Punta Quilla (Puerto Santa Cruz). Sailors, marines, and aviators of SACA: You all are doing a good job out there. Keep up the hard work. We've put the PLA on the back-foot, and with any luck we should have several days of peace to regroup before launching further offensives. Enjoy your rest, you've earned it. «Irse a pique antes que rendir el pabellón!« Kaal fucked around with this message at 00:03 on Nov 14, 2023 |

I fired my first missile from 15nm, and 2-2 launched his from about 12nm. (Credit to mlmp08) After losing contact with my missile and not seeing a hit, I launched my final missile from 10nm. Shortly after, I witnessed my bandit going down. Meanwhile, 2-2 had launched his second missile and taken down the second bandit. Reviewing the events, it became clear that we both targeted the same bandit, resulting in three missiles being fired for one kill. With both bandits eliminated, we headed North to resume our CAP. We informed Condor that we'd used up our medium-range missiles and requested to depart for a rearm, but our request was denied as another pair of bandits was incoming. Turning back South, I thought I spotted the targets. Since we were limited to our short-range Fox 2 missiles and visual with a close range BRA call, I decided to switch to Dog Fight mode, hoping to catch the targets in boresight, but despite our efforts, we couldn't lock on. Condor then reported 'merged bandits high,' when we realised the targets we were chasing were actually the parachuting pilots of the jets we had previously taken down, causing confusion. 2-2 and I immediately redirected our attention to the real threat, grateful that the bandits hadn't taken advantage of our confusion, and swiftly dispatched them with one short-range missile each. We turned back towards our CAP point. However, I noticed a fireball where 2-2 should have been. During the dogfight, we had descended, and 2-2 had inadvertently moved into the SA-11's range, resulting in the loss of his aircraft. I returned to Rio Turbio, refueled, re-armed, and went back on station. No further bandit activity was reported, and after 20 minutes, it was time to head back. During my final approach, visions of a crying infant in my cockpit caused a momentary loss of concentration resulting in an unrecoverable stall and another lost aircraft. Despite this incident, I respectfully decline any suggested therapy. -- What went well?

You can expect the consist with the steam locomotive to go one way, and the sole diesel locomotive to pull the opposing direction. The trains will run during the mission, transporting supplies between the port of Rio Gallegos, and the terminus cargo yard in Rio Turbio, allowing an east-west flow of supplies. The trip takes some two hours and 30 minutes. Ironically, all the way up until the wind-down of the rail line in the 2010s irl, the steam locomotives were far more reliable than the Romanian-bought diesel locomotives, and pulled more weight each than diesel locos combined. Here you can see the rail line operate on the map in our DCS World-mission, and if you fly low enough on game day, you might grasp a glimpse of the engineer.

ARMA SUNDAY MISSION OVERALL GOAL DESTROY ASAT COMMS FACILITY COMMANDER INTENT Scout area prior to initiating hostilities. Use team JULIET's language and culture skills to take advantage of Angolans unhappy about PLA occupation. Once JULIET has recon'd civilian areas, and ROMEO-SIERRA has searched, then initiate hostilities by engaging QRF airbase followed by Garrison. Then form up to destroy ASAT. COMMANDERS NOTE : This is a big AO. I'm not going to give you detailed orders, it won't work. You will have to use best initiative to try to follow intent. We may need to "acquire" civilian vehicles. 1. We move together to this point and split up. 2. ROMEO goes west, searches up near NW FOREST for ASAT Site. 3. Holds near crossroads and waits for other teams to finish. 4-5-6. JULIET scouts ahead for SIERRA and helps them get through hostile territory. 7. SIERRA scouts area near Katumbi Gulch and takes up overwatch in a solid position. Maybe at 7, maybe at a different spot. 7.5 JULIET cruises about and talks to locals and scopes out RANGOLAN RAVINE. 8. Once all teams have recon'd sites, we initiate hostilities and engage the QRF at SW AIRBASE. SIERRA engages the garrison while ROMEO moves in from the WEST and flanks the Chinese garrison. After this we form up on a hopefully discovered ASAT site and gently caress it up. This is a big AO. It will behoove you to prepare to act on your own with limited command oversight. If I'm 4 miles away I can't advise you on the best hill to use. Find it and use it.
