Had to listen to a lot of Radio Nova when I worked in the lab. I could happily never listen to AC/DC - Thunderstruck again for the rest of my life

Personally, I go for 6 Music or a gentle podcast

I well understand the desire to listen to a radio station that plays music and then stops to have a DJ talk so you actually get a little bit of human interaction and get a sort of proto-parasocial relationship going on.

Ewwwww, human interaction.

Off topic but anyone know a good radio station to wake up to? When I was a kid my dad always had the radio on and I miss it, playing your own tunes isn’t the same for feeling connected and being surprised somehow. I’m trialling XS Manchester today, and I’m usually Radio 2 (whether for the actually enjoyable Sarah Cox, or the at least hilariously banal and crap (occasionally infuriating) Vine), but I feel like I’m missing out on something better.

Scott Mills is loving unbearable :(

Bring Back Steve Wright imo

Thanks gangsters, I do indeed want that paradoxical thing, feels like I’m in the world when I’m working alone. Scott Mills is rubbish, STEVE WRIGHT IN THE AF-TER-NOON, was much better. Jo Wiley and Sarah Cox carry Radio 2 tho. Sounds like Radio 6 gonna be where I dip my toes next. I defo need to otherwise I’m going to be hearing more of Alan Partridge’s voice than anyone else’s between the podcast and the audiobooks

yeah i resented him from the get go because Steve Wright was exactly right for an afternoon show, but really he's so talentless - i feel like he wouldn't last a week on a local radio station

grating, nasally voice, trips over his words all the time, absolutely no wit, shockingly awkward when talking to anyone other than annoying celebrities he's chummy with - just an utterly vapid waste of space

I just can't be arsed with radio because it feels like many of them have barely changed their song lists in like two decades.

While I'm at it, I don't support the death penalty but I would make exception for anyone that selects Nile Rodgers for radio. I don't have anything bad to say about the man or his music, but come on, we've all heard those exact same tunes about a million times, give it a rest.

Has anyone had experience with Octopus as their energy supplier? I’ve just had a door to door salesperson stop by as they’re taking on new customers and the tariff they’ve quoted me is noticeably cheaper than British Gas, especially for gas.

Remember when he had a feature on his r1 show where people would give out a mobile number to unwanted suitors on a night out? Turns out most times the number was given as a contact to girls after a one night thing and Scott played some of their messages. Usually with "She's a Lady" playing as a background.

I got moved to them automatically from Bulb, iirc that happened to another poster or two too.

No problems to date, got automatically enrolled for the new app and portal, they've lowered rates recently, seems to work with my janky old smart meter.

Had them for a year or two and they're decent, I think they might be market leaders rate wise as well at the moment but if you are in a position to switch I would have a look at what MSE is saying before you do.

I thought it was that was just me being over sensitive. I despise having the news on 6 music it feels like lying in a swimming pool in a luxury hotel in the Bahamas then seeing a turd floating towards you. It's so tone deaf it's amazing really. Do you think they are contractually obliged somehow?

Been with them about two years and had no issues. I think they’re one of them that is more sustainable or something too.

E: that isn’t a luxury spa. It’s got a big pool thing in but it isn’t a luxury spa.

They do, they'll take a syndicated feed from Global or somewhere. I also mute 6 Music whenever they go to the news, because it invariably consists of "The government says [x], here's a government spokesperson explaining it" and then it goes to the next story without any rebuttal from other parties.

Yes I use them. Have been with them 3 years. I'm all electric.
Had a two year fix with them just before everything went pear-shaped, that finished in early October and I took a 12 month fix with them (and also switched to a single-tariff rate despite having Eco 7 meters as my calculations from 4 years of monitoring (of readings including the first year I lived here when I just stuck to what was here when I moved in) showed the premium you pay for day rate was not made up for by a lower night rate as I have very limited scope for switching things to night use. This was very easy to do. They sent me quotes for Eco 7 so I just asked them to send me single rate quote instead).

I watched Martin Lewis last night and he said the cap which had been expected to fall next year is now expected to rise because of I/P & also fix rates are starting to edge up. So up to you whether you take a variable & risk it, or fix at something you can cope with for 12 months. (Apparently no fixes for more than 12 months available anywhere at the mo).

If you have a smart meter they have a bunch of interesting tariffs which may or may not suit you if you are good at long range weather forecasting!

And I love their interface it's so simple. I give readings every week and get a bill every week (they just knock it off my balance). And I can fiddle with my DD rate myself.

In fact when it was the couple of days round my tariff change, I read the meters every day and got a bill every day for about 4 days which was great, so I knew exactly where I was, no estimating.

A couple of months ago, my wife was trying out this AI DJ feature on Spotify.

Basically, the DJ (an AI that sounded like a real person but wasn't) would periodically give you facts about the songs, describe what was played and then try playing something new based on what you had listened to.

She liked it.

I was completely creeper out by it. The audio version of Unacanny Valley.

It seems so archaic. Harking back to a time when some little old lady with a wind up radio on some island off scotland was tuning into the world service.

6 music is only available on digital radio, or you need to be connected to the internet to even get it. If you can get 6 music you get you can access all the news channels you will ever need 24/7. It's just not needed on a specialist channel like that.
