There was yield sign on the highway off ramp by my house. After frequent accidents caused by people suicidally failing to yield they changed it to a stop sign. Someone just sailed right through the other day and almost hit me. I'm just going to avoid that stretch from now on. What's the next level up from a stop sign?

I sometimes marshall for a local shooting range that is on public land, it's a coastal headland and the backstop is between the shooters and the sea. On shooting days we put out red flags, chains across the headland path with red flags hanging from them, a big red sign saying ACTIVE RANGE, SHOOTING IN PROGRESS, NO ACCESS etc, and as a marshall you stand next to this veritable barricade wearing the fluorescent yellow jacket of petty authority. Every time, every. time. people would try to walk/ride around with their dog, bicycle, children, fishing rods. Simply walk around it all while not making eye contact until you shout at them. While gunshots were ringing out. "Sorry the headland is closed for a while, there's shooting in progress" *thumps and cracks of rifle fire behind me* "Oh I thought they had finished now." I came close to tackling a middle aged woman from her bicycle in front of her friends when she tried to sail around the barricade at one point. I held up my hand and said the line and I guess she didn't think it applied to her because she only stopped when my big goony frame shouted more urgently and I made a move to intercept her physically. This is not an unusual event or a temporary range, we don't suddenly turn the headland into Surprise Fallujah. There's earthworks, firing berms, backstops, target pits, mechanicals, the range has been there for more than 60 years. Shooting at least once a weekend at the same time every week.

We have no native deer but I'm quite sure a few rabbits lives have been ended over the years. Our pistol range is dug down in a pit on another headland, next to the RC aircraft club. It is a testament to the self restraint of our members that aircraft that stray into the pit have so far been left unperforated.
