I hope he doesn't return. Microsoft sinking a cool billion into a company that crumbles over in-fighting is far funnier.

FYI for some loving reason 4chan is playing internet detective about this. I think it's a combination of roko's basilisk and some belief that ((( the board ))) is trying to suppress AI. I'd take anything from unofficial sources with a BIG grain of salt

It’s not a secret or unexpected that Microsoft is pissed about Altman leaving and a bunch of senior staff resigning too. But it sure is something to post that garbage tweet thread instead of actual news stories saying similar things.

New CEO is going to be the old CEO of twitch. Poggers. Boy I'm glad openAI are such a small player. Be certainly embarrassing and worrying if this cluster gently caress of management was actually the leader in AI and it was them that every tech company in the world was tripping over themselves to intergrate their stack with.

TheScott2K posted:Altman did something, none of this makes sense as "divergent strategic vision" or whatever Best explanation I could find https://time.com/6337437/sam-altman-openai-fired-why-microsoft-musk/ quote:At the same time Altman was pursuing side projects that had the potential to enrich him and his investors, but which were outside of the control of OpenAI’s safety-conscious board. There was Worldcoin, his eyeball-scanning crypto project, which launched in July and was promoted as a potential universal basic income system to make up for AI-related job losses. Altman also explored starting his own AI chipmaker, pitching sovereign wealth funds in the Middle East on an investment that could reach into the tens of billions of dollars, according to a person familiar with the plan. He also pitched SoftBank Group Corp., led by Japanese billionaire and tech investor Masayoshi Son, on a potential multibillion-dollar investment in a company he planned to start with former Apple design guru Jony Ive to make AI-oriented hardware.

Which is hilarious when you look at what currently AI actually does and how it operates. There's plenty of things to be wary about AI with regarding jobs and how it impact the economy, but AI isn't going to skynet'ing us anytime in coming couple of decades.

None of the people mentioned work for the government either. His constant, enthusiastic refrain was “feel the AGI,” a reference to the idea that the company was on the cusp of its ultimate goal. At OpenAI’s 2022 holiday party, held at the California Academy of Sciences, Sutskever led employees in a chant: “Feel the AGI! Feel the AGI!” The phrase itself was popular enough that OpenAI employees created a special “Feel the AGI” reaction emoji in Slack.
