I hardly think Biden should be held responsible for his decline in youth approval, since most of that number is just because his glut of lovely kids keeps dying.

Going by polling averages this looks like a completely normal result... not sure where I'm supposed to be seeing a "free fall"? (e: Actually pretty impressive how closely the NBC poll graph tracks the polling average graph.) I don't doubt that it's in a bit of a slide right now but everything about Trump and Biden's terms suggests it will bounce back up and generally linger in the high-30s, mid-40s. If somebody is, for whatever reason, hoping for some kind of W-esque bottom falling out, they should not hold their breaths.

I love how with so many polls there's always one where Biden did worse than he did in the previous poll by that firm, and the media hops on it for a free "Biden free fall!!!!" narrative and some cheap clicks.
Weird feels like I've been telling myself "If it's just a few points worse than his previous poll it's a statistical fluke" over and over and over and over for two years straight

They really love to say “but what about the GOP?” when people want to hold Democrats accountable. You bring up how the Democrats failed to codify Roe, they’ll say that it’s really the GOP’s fault even tho the Dems were in power.

They also individualize the Democrats when it comes to the things that are bad or they fail to pass something. So it’s specifically Manchin’s or Sinema’s faults but not the whole party. But they’ll demand that you vote for the Democrats at the same time simply because they’re Democrats. Assessing whether or not a democrat is bad is alright but the party as a whole deserves your vote.

"Why not protest the Republicans?" strikes me as an especially stupid retort because that kind of nonviolent protest, to me, is a hopeful action. You protest the people you think can be convinced. People protest the Dems because they think the Dems might agree with their position. Saying "Go protest Republicans instead" is telling us they can't be convinced.

Edit: Cleaned up the wording, realized I was accidentally implying protest was bad/pointless. Protests are good.

People protesting the Democratic platform should be a good thing: it means they are persuadable voters that you could get on your side by negotiating with them. If they gave up on you and went to try to influence the GOP instead that would a bad sign.

It's like when those activists asked Hillary to stop supporting bad things and instead of hearing them out went "oh well why don't you run for office then if you think you know better", do they want votes or not.

It makes sense if you think of protesting as moral absolution. You protest not as part of a theory of change, but because protesting means you no longer have moral culpability for benefiting from the system that does the things you protest.

That’s another thing. The Sems themselves don’t employ the vote shaming. They’ll say vote for me if you agree with me and if you don’t, don’t vote for me. But the diehards will shout at you for daring not to vote for the people who told you not to vote for them.

They’ll place the well-being of every marginalized person at the voter’s feet, but will not do the same to the Democrats who hold a lot more power. They never votescold the democrats

That’s the inverse relationship between power and moral responsibility at play. The more powerful you are, the less responsible for your actions you become, as compromise must be made to retain that power. While if you’re not powerful, you must be morally pure as you don’t have a justification for your moral mistakes.
