people who think the phantom liberty ending is in any way happy don't understand subtext. the game isn't very subtle about always getting you to take the selfless, pro-friend option. by the end of the game you should have a long list of chooms who all lose touch after you take the deal, unlike every other ending(even the devil). militech/myers taking over night city makes it even worse than before to the point where viktor and your guardian angel have to leave. and then you literally turn into an npc

or you can just read the computer in the hospital where it's revealed that peralez killed every homeless person in night city

That poo poo was all going to happen anyway. Part of the theme is that you don't actually have an impact on things other than in very small personal ways. PL's ending is only different in that you live long enough to see what happens; if Johnny's ending kept going you'd see this all happen anyway

I mean you could say permutations of this about contemporary life in various aspects

people don't like the idea of dying no matter how terrible present circumstances may be. also there's always that 0.0001% chance of light at the end of the tunnel

Isn't there a wall around the county manned by the US Army (or like... the corporation that is now the army??). I don't think they let people leave. And there's like Mad Max gangs everywhere. At least in the Arasaka treaty port you can get some synthetic soylent green and shop at one of the 10 million porno shops

there's a wall around Chicago which much like shadowrun seems to be the designated "abandon hope" city in cyberpunk

i seem to remember that they kill you with an orbital strike if you try to leave night city, which is why nomads have to use old tunnels to get around during sandstorms

Militech has a mined border and armed checkpoints because night city isn't part of the nusa. it comes up in several badlands quests and is that red warning sign wall you sometimes see. The end of phantom liberty and the nomad intro both feature crossing the border

But you're also free to travel to badlands and back at any time, the checkpoints are there mainly to hide the game loading assets.

I believe that's because the badlands you can travel in still fall within the city limits, but idk

all the habitable land outside the cities is reserved for hyperwealthy gated communities and the cities are all gazaesque concentration camps

I beat colony ship. it like when rpgs aren't 30000 hours, I can actually see the end before my attention wanders. the setting and choices really carried it. the combat was pretty meh; because of the way many partial hits are grazes and how much aim you can stack, partial cover basically did nothing and there was maybe 10 pieces of full cover the whole game, so it devolved into grenade spam to get the enemy stats down from bullshit to manageable, and then plinking away hoping you can kill them before they recover.

will probably play again at some point but either solo or 1 companion and see how much combat I can avoid

it really is short though, like 20 hours even with a shitload of jerkin off

So long as it's not the PC version it's fine. Could be shorter and more condensed, but generally it's a fun experience. Cal is more interesting this time around compared to the first game.

is the PC version really that bad?? i thought the first one was ok, kinda mid but better than most sw games. I kinda expected more from Respawn though. it was less than the sum of its parts

That's why I load up on perks that make grazes better. Especially if you have an SMG/assault rifle build, that's the only way they stay viable imo. It does a good job of making me actually use my consumables though, no huge hoarding stacks like most RPGs.

I think you can get through the entire game just with speech skills, though you'd miss out on a lot of sidestuff and exploration

i got darktide since it was on sale for reasonable price (20 smackers) and lol its a pretty game. I like that, like V2, it sets worker threads insanely high for no reason and fucks up hyperthread scheduling because its spread over like fuken 30 cores.

the game supports multi/hyperthreading, so it'll scale to (total core count -1) by default and its never worked in my experience, always introduces stutters due to cpu scheduling being the weakpoint in the frame delivery chain. So for example, it put me at 29 worker threads & it'll always stutter. I set it down to 8 and stutter gone bingo bongo.
