There's no way that Michigan State job isn't cursed. Stay away Beav.

Johnathan Smith is beloved at Oregon State, very unlike Mike Riley feeling like he was 6-12 months from being fired at Oregon State before being hired at Nebraska.

Happy with this hire but I'm a little concerned that he's never been on a staff east of Montana.

He's really good, can't blame him - I would imagine OSU will need to slash staff budgets

But really tough on the Beavs to lose the civil war, their coach and their conference in the same weekend

The right assistant hires can solve this problem, e.g. Matt Rhule at Baylor

Could have gotten the G6(?) autobid sometimes. Don't know if that's less realistic than MSU getting to the 12 team playoff in the new Big Ten

I hear you, but he’s moving from a G6 team to one that’s been in the original four team playoff

Fire Jim Harbaugh. It’s clear he is unnecessary as long as Ryan Day is the head coach of Ohio State

Mark Stoops to A&M is all but official.

He's making 9m/year at Kentucky to not win a division, he should feel right at home in College Station.

lmaoooo what a kick in the dick for Kentucky fans. Stoops had that machine running at a pretty regular 8-4 clip, which seems about the ceiling for Kentucky unless they invest more.

Wonder who the Wildcats are gonna go after

Ugh, such a dumb move for him. His job security is incredible in Lexington.

Good hire for TAMU but I feel like they’re going to regret not going after Elko long term. Also I feel like the fan base is going to be underwhelmed.

Counterpoint he only needs to coach 3 years now to get 10 years worth of salary

Sumrall from Troy looks like 1st choice

Was an assistant under Stoops, elite recruiter, did a hell of a job at Troy so far, former UK player as well.

Elko could be anything, he could even be Mark Stoops!

(I see them as basically the same candidate with pretty similar ceilings and floors and would be happy enough with either)

Elko is 10yrs younger and potentially has a higher ceiling?

I get your point though. Could have a lower floor since he hasn’t been HC as long.

I would guess Sumrall already has an agreement in place, they are just waiting for the Stoops official announcement to do the Sumrall official announcement.

Stoops was already making $9MM a year on his most recent Kentucky contract.

It's worth noting that Mark Stoops has spent most of the last 2 years complaining about Kentucky's NIL resources in football. It feels like a fine hire, though it felt like a Big Ten job or Florida/FSU would've been a more natural jump for him given his connections to Ohio and Florida, not Texas.

Yeah, I think NIL is a big reason for this. That and he probably hit Kentucky's ceiling already, especially with conference schedules getting even harder next year.

I'd love for him to stay, you can't beat the job security he has right now. With his age though, maybe he thinks that A&M buyout in a few years would make for a pretty nice retirement.
