Hm I have UniFi APs and have a few items still connected on the 2.4GHz, and even still I should see all the neighbours wifi networks when it scans. Instead I get bupkis. Kind of makes me think the wifi hardware in the ChargePoint is dead. I remember when I first got it there was a ton of networks showing up when I first connected.

Could still be some weird config on the evse preventing it from going, but I’ve done all the debug steps on their site like rebooting routers etc and no joy :sigh:

Check on unifi controller if you disabled 11b or 11g from 2.4g radio. Maybe it's trying to link at slower speeds than allowed.

I was only parking at home :smith:

Parts of my driveway are completely hosed from rain and heavy cars coming and going. Usually I can get the car free but this time I must have hit just the right spot. I managed to get it free by rocking it back and forth for 10 minutes.
Fun fact: when you disable the parking sensors because tall grass and bushes trigger them so the car is screaming at you, they reactivate when you switch gear...which...you do a lot while rocking the car back and forth.

Just did the LA Auto show this week. Stelantis and Volvo were no shows. Lots of EVs.

Looks like VW is bringing back their hippie van, full electric. There were a couple there.

Lowriders are really the only car culture that I find amazing and cool. I'm curious if eventually someone makes an EV convert from something like a late 40s Mercury or a 60s Impala to use as a lowrider.

There's a decent chance that's all about clearing out the existing inventory before the Highland redesign is released in the US.

Oh yes! There was a company there that was doing antique car EV installs (not lowriders, just normal cruisers). Sorry I didn't catch the company name. They had about 6 or 7 converted classic cars. I looked at the vendor list, but couldn't find it.

E: there were about 6 of those extreme VW bug lowriders that were about 3 feet high.

I'd post pics but I don't have a imgur account.

They'll be fine to insure, they may offer their own insurance, like Tesla and Rivian. Tesla and Rivian have similar median monthly coverage prices through insurers like GEICO and Progressive, those prices are about $30/month above the median for all cars sold in the US.

Well don't you know I'm caught in a trap?

Elon Musk promised cheaper, better, even “revolutionary” auto insurance after Tesla started losing sales because of high premiums. But understaffing left some customers waiting weeks or months for compensation as they continued making payments on crashed cars.

In February, Mark Bova purchased a used 2018 Tesla Model S. Before leaving the dealer, he bought insurance from Tesla itself, finding the initial $93 monthly premium “really reasonable.”

Sixteen days later, as he drove along the Capital Beltway to his Maryland home, he engaged Autopilot, Tesla’s automated driving system. The car started beeping and lurched left — striking a median and flipping. He escaped through a window as the car filled with smoke. An ambulance rushed him to the hospital with back injuries that later required surgery.

“I’m a former Green Beret,” Bova said, referring to the U.S. Army Special Forces. “That was probably the second-most traumatic thing I've gone through other than being in combat.”

His ordeal isn’t over. Tesla Insurance, launched in 2019 by the electric-car company, has promised policyholders “vastly better” service than rivals, as Tesla chief Elon Musk put it in April 2022. Musk also said he aimed to offer “same-day” collision repairs. But Bova says he has been battling the insurer ever since the crash.

He said he waited seven months for payment on the totaled vehicle and still hasn’t been compensated for about $50,000 in medical expenses.

I assume a company run by different people could provide decent insurance to its customers, plus who ever has nice things to say about their insurer?

Unlike competitors that often have separate call centers to take claim reports, Tesla’s adjusters had to answer the phones themselves while also handling claims.

This is a claims handling practice from like circa 2006, by which point every carrier with even half a brain realized segmenting low complexity tasks such as taking a new loss report could be done by a lower cost employee. This also frees up your adjusters to actually handle claims.

quote:

In many states where Tesla Insurance is available, its monthly premiums can vary based on daily “Safety Scores" that the automaker says reflect “real-time driving behavior” measured by sensors and software. Tesla is facing at least two class-action lawsuits that allege its vehicles are prone to producing false collision warnings that can lower the scores and inflate premiums. In court filings, Tesla has denied the allegations and sought to dismiss the cases.

There’s a reason that other manufacturers don’t offer in house insurance, and it’s because of poo poo like this.

The cargo version of this is already starting to become a popular work vehicle in Europe. I've seen more than a few. There's a local drilling contractor of some description that has one parked in my neighborhood - dark blue, cargo compartment in the back so no windows, ugly winter wheels with no fancy rims at all, company logo on the side. I'd expect all sorts of construction industry specialist contractors to be all over these (people like the aforementioned drilling specialist, various engineers and surveyors, blasting specialists, welders, etc). It's a very common work van form factor and I'd expect the range to be perfectly fine for any city work.

I've never heard of this. I'm inclined to think this is one of those solutions made for people who enjoy electrical fires.

A yes, the famous Hiwildoo brand, a trusted name in electrical devices for generations.

I personally think there's a very low risk of these off-brand chargers starting a fire, and I used one for years with no issues. That being said, it was in a garage far from my house, that I literally didn't care if it burned to the ground. If I were going to put one where it could catch my house on fire, I'd spend the extra $100-200 to get an Emporia, Chargepoint, Juicebox, Tesla, ClipperCreek, or Grizzle-E charger.
