Nuclear War posted:Does stuff like strategy games work well on it? it comes down to two things: will it run on the Deck('s Proton layer), and can it be controlled via the gamepad controls for the former, games have a "Steam Deck verified" label to check if they'll run on the Deck with minimal hassle for the latter, Steam will say if the game supports controllers - if it doesn't, you can still connect a keyboard+mouse to the deck, either via USB or bluetooth - ... or you can use Steam's ability to "spoof" keyboard/mouse inputs via controller. This is almost always an imperfect solution, but some people have gotten pretty clever with custom controller layouts - ... or you can use the trackpad on the Deck to imitate a mouse, though this is far from ideal basically if it's a strategy game that already had controller support and/or already had a console release, like say XCOM 2, odds are very good that you can rock-and-roll on a Steam Deck very easily.

Paradoxish posted:Yeah it owns My company’s North Star is basically to make ML cheaper and easier. I have some expertise in the subject, and honestly I don’t see how things get better. Someone a few pages back mentioned manually curated indexes and the return of web rings which is a funny idea but the darker truth is that those can be hallucinated as easily as click bait articles. I’m having a hard time imagining written content that couldn’t be. I’m honestly surprised that deep fakes haven’t supplanted chain email and social media political campaigns yet. Maybe it is testament to how little those campaigns actually matter. Why manipulate the results when you win regardless of the loser? I’m pretty sure we’re heading full steam towards an AI driven epistemological crisis where knowing things becomes impossible. Meanwhile CEOs get together and act all serious about AI risks like skynet or some other impossible garbage while the real doom is already here. Some days I think I’d be better off trying to actually develop skynet or some determined exterminator type ai because at least machines might be capable of cooperating at scales where we seemingly just can’t.

SEO garbage and AI website debris serve the important purpose of empowering """Trustworthiness""" it's not that you can't hallucinate web rings, it's that Web rings with specific domains OR by specific institutions could be more important. one a million twitter accounts begin posting fake Economic data and headlines in all caps, everyone will go back to their actual Bloomberg consoles

think about how often you are listening to something in headphones while looking at something totally unrelated on your phone while doing something else in real life

LeeMajors posted:wait are you loving with me? this is actually a thing? it is. as I said, originally I thought it was to throw off algorithmic scanning that throws automated takedowns of copyrighted content, but I think making half the video be subwaysurfers is just A Thing You Have To Do Now my other suspicion is that they need it to provide a visual backdrop to otherwise audio-only posts. There's a genre of tiktok video that takes reddit posts, like from r/relationships or r/amitheasshole and then has the AI voice read them out loud. Even with subtitles, and even with subtitles that "pop" and color along the words as they're being read, it's not enough visual engagement, and you don't want people putting the phone down and listening to it as an audio-only experience (even if it is one) because then the person isn't going to be scrolling over to the next video, so you put a clip of someone playing Minecraft that their eyes can watch while their ears process a story about how a woman divorced her husband after finding out he was in a WhatsApp group with his coworkers all lusting over their boss's daughter and finally, the other other layer to this is that maybe there is no "real" need to put the subwaysurfer half-video spliced in anymore, but it's what The Most Popular Videos did once upon a time so people just cargo-cult it because nobody knows what The Algorithm wants or doesn't want
