Imagine being a radioman and setting up an unclass data link in parallel with your SIPR link over a secure satellite agile spot beam just so you can sext with your wife on facebook messenger while on mission. Nobody would ever do that.

Don't Catalinas have some kind of insane endurance, like 20 hours of flying time? Seems like a modernized version would be attractive for a lot of applications.

I kind of get that Navy didn't understand the assignment. Something that looks and sounds like a passenger jet isn't going to wow the crowd. It'd be like Army showing up in TMP vans wearing PT gear and reflective belts, or Airforce having the SPs show up in golf carts.

I was hoping one of you sailor goons could help me out. My dad gave me one of his old navy shirts when it stopped fitting him. I could tell he was kinda bummed to part with it, so I thought I might try to find a larger one like it for him for x mas. Anybody know where to find one? It''s Vietnam era. Can I even get one as a civilian? Here's a couple of pics. Bonus: My mom stitched a heart in the left breast pocket before he shipped out.

It's called a "cpo shirt". eBay is your best bet for genuine military issue, otherwise tons of retailers make similarly styled ones as either a wool shirt or shirt-jac. I have one from Schott that has held up well.
