Maybe that was the best lawyering reynal did during the whole trial. It was super awkward when it happened, it was cross examination (or possibly a re-direct?) immediately after the phone dump got dropped. Reynal just goes up there afterwards and is just meekly like “we effectively represented you correct? We did a good job? Ok no further questions your honor”

But on the left 3x3 portion, there are four 'o's but only two 'x's. Even if 'o' had unusually gone first, that doesn't work - there has to have been other shenanigans.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2023/11/28/alex-jones-bankruptcy-sandy-hook-settlement/ tldr: Families offer to settle the $1.5 billion debt for $8.5 million per year x 10 years plus 50% of any income over $9 million per year. This represents only 6% of the total owed. I understand why they would make that offer: 1) it’s likely the most they can expect to get from him in the first place 2) it gets them money sooner rather than dragging this through court for years 3) it gets that claim going now before further judgements come down in his other pending defamation trials, increasing the chance that they’re the creditors that get the money 4) it makes them look like reasonable people who made a good faith offer, which will piss off the judge if Jones rejects it. However, some part of me is sad to see Jones not get nailed to the wall for $Texas amount of money.

Cantorsdust posted:https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2023/11/28/alex-jones-bankruptcy-sandy-hook-settlement/ I fully expect Alex to reject it publicly with a repugnant display of verbal self-flagellation for three reasons: 1. He wants to make his victims fight for every last cent, because he believes he's the victim. 2. Accepting an offer could be viewed as weakness by his remaining customer base, and he's at least somewhat aware of what his customers think of "traitors to the cause". 3. Bullshitting and foot-dragging is his MO and his comfort zone, and I don't expect him to change. I'm also disappointed not to witness $texas wall-nailing, but Jones is looking at a very painful dilemma between Angry Audience and Angry Judge, and I choose to accept that as a satisfactory outcome.

I also respectfully dispute the claim that he's "happier" because nothing at all about Alex Jones suggests that he's able to feel anything except outrage posters itt still have the power to avoid this sorry failure state; he, however, looks to have addicted and feedback-looped himself into a state that makes unfucking his brain particularly unlikely. Perhaps that can be a glimmer of joy for those of us who have been disappointed

Cantorsdust posted:https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2023/11/28/alex-jones-bankruptcy-sandy-hook-settlement/ One thing to note is that he's still got other trials, so it's not as if even if he pays this he'll be off the hook. Those trials are awaiting the bankruptcy stay being ended. And so if he agrees to this, his bankruptcy ends a lot sooner - which means he has to go right back to more trials where he'll be fined millions again, and I'm pretty sure there are rules that prevent him from just re-declaring bankruptcy of the Chapter 11/restructuring variety. So (from what I understand, IANAL) it's a poison pill.

The restaurant story always reminds me of David Ickes similar origin story of 'Had obvious psychotic break' which wasn't treated appropriately. Although it's Alex, so he may just have made the whole story up and told it so many times he believes it now.
