Huh. While I do not agree with the level of importance you feel that this one lovely app has to the entire medical profession, and I feel you are still massively underweighting the negative impact of having instant pocket access to the worst parts of a casino, there was some stuff in your post that I had not thought of, and am still considering. Thanks!

Guess we will just have to say “behind the bastards sure has some lovely sponsors”

The episodes about Hawk's Nest were rough. I grew up in a former coal mining area, and as a kid, I heard lots of stories from my grandparents about how the mining company would just dump your body on your family's doorstep if you died on the job. (A not-infrequent occurrence! And something that happened to several of my grandparents' relatives.) I thought that was bad enough; workers dying at fantastic rates and being carted off to mass graves is something else entirely. The total disregard for human life that folks like the Union Carbide executives are guilty of is something I'll never wrap my head around.

Family roots come from the coal cracker region of Pennsylvania, and yeah poo poo was absolutely wild about stuff like this in the family history passed down. Haven't listened to the episode so maybe this was covered? Tunnel collapses were a time for the civic mourning rituals of the people living there because management did not give ANY fucks. There'd be like a day or so of the workers being allowed to try to get them out but that was it and even that was given side-eye by management. They were all but forced to let it slide despite their desires because they knew it would turn in to torches and pitchforks situation if they didn't at least put on the fig leaf since every worker was thinking "That could be me on the other side of that collapse". After that it was basically "Welp too bad so sad back to work, maybe go to church about it some other time? Whatever."

Hawk's Nest was a hard listen, there are some real loving evil people out there. The people calling the shots are straight up serial killers but get away with it because :capitalism:

The episodes that still gives me chills after several years is the trouble teen camp episodes... gently caress.

So I was listening to the Dracula episode (lots of fun) but did I understand it correctly that "Robert Evans" is a pseudonym?

Havent listened to that episode yet but there are regularly jokes made about how robert shares a name with legendary hollywood actor and producer robert evans, and when the podcasts and such first started, he would clarify or joke about not being that robert evans up until that old producer guy passed away in 2019

Knowing how cool zone operates, odds are high they were joking around

Edit: yeah robert is just joshin around about how overly protective they sometimes are about their locations, with good reason. See also katy stoll being so cagey about where she moved to other than “up in the mountains”

All it takes is one dude in tyool 2023 with a gun and a little bit of mental illness to get too obsessed

There was a comment in one of the old episodes where a guest called him Matt and explained that was how they knew him. I think it was the George Floyd protests in Portland. The way they used it sounded to me like he was using a different part of his name, it's not super unusual for people to use their middle name socially and their full name professionally. May be wrong though.

I should have expected it because it's about British aristocrats but they sure did like using the f slur to describe things at the time period talked about even more than when I was in jr. high.

Jamie Loftus is great, though I kinda got sick of hearing her talk about hot dogs. Her podcast series about Mensa was an A+ listen.

I'm also sorta not counting superstar guests like Sarah Marshall, who are way more well known for their own shows than for being on BtB. (Yes, I know Matt Lieb is a podcaster too.)

There were conflicting stories on the Subreddit, but a number of people said that Billy Wayne got tired of being asked to come on for multiple-hour recordings for free.
