I think my favorite of the Four Little Shits is definitely Shimada Death. What's not to love about a character who has all the powers, is invincible and is also a giant lady?

That felt like such a meta moment. "Oh, you thought this series wouldn't have a super tall murderous blonde lady? Guess what, she's been here all along!"

I don't read a lot of manga because I have a very hard time reading right to left (I'm old, they should still make English translations that flip the art like they do big print versions of books for old people) and that's how most of it is published now, but my understanding is Jinjo Ito is the absolute king of this in the manga world.

I'm not big on manga or horror, but I read my cousin's copy of Uzumaki and it was a good "psychedelic" horror story.

Psychedelic = weird, unexplainable things happening that could only be done in an illustrated work

On the horror comics recs My Friend Dahmer is a classic, and Alan Moore is an often underrated master at it both in more pure forms like From Hell and Neonomicon/Providence, and when he slips in elements of horror into his works in other genres like V For Vendetta, Watchmen, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen or even the more conventional superhero stuff he did for Marvel and DC during the 80's

I need to check this out, I bought the Manhunt variant cover for the first issue and never read any more of it.

My Friend Dahmer was a lot of fun too. Need to actually sit down and read From Hell.

My favorite part of From Hell is the afterword, "Dance of the gull catchers" where Alan Moore talks about why he wrote the comic as well as the history of Ripperology.

It's probably the best essay on Jack the Ripper ever written. From Hell is obviously great and unlikely to be beat as the best Ripper fiction every written (not to mention visually presented), but Dance stands even taller than it because the it carries more weight and meaning. From Hell can get bogged down in Moore's mysticism (sorry Alan, it's not impressive that five points can make a pentagram since that's true of any five points that are not on a line) even as it tries to integrate everything into a cohesive story, even the contradictoey parts. Dance is a lot more sober and realostoc and self-reflective.

You can't have Dance of the Gull Catchers without From Hell, but I think it stands apart.

About halfway through reading Invincible. I'm doubtful the show will get this far in my lifetime, but I'm really looking forward to seeing them grapple Dinosaurus. "Mark gets First Reformed'ed and teams up with a hyperintelligent talking ecoterrorist dinosaur" goes insanely hard in the paint and also seems like suicide to try to adapt

I dunno I tend to find Gull's arcane ramblings to be the best parts of From Hell(while I tend to find the parts from the perspectives of the prostitutes to kind of drag and be overly dour and repetitive)

Based off some of the pics I've seen it's competently done but it loses a lot of the magic the original art has

I haven’t looked into it but I assume it’s an alternate universe scenario, like when Batman met Judge Dredd.

Considering how many crossovers and spin-offs Lady Death and Zombie Tramp have had, if it’s established that those two series take place on the same world, that means almost all horny comics take place on that same world. A world where women’s clothing that covers the midriff simply does not exist.

These exist just to sell variants right? Like no shot these are actually readable at an enjoyment level. All I ever see in these kickstarters is page after page of variants (we put boobies with nippies on the cover!!! L@@K!!!!) and I've never fully understood where the market for this is. Even at a masturbatory level, if you're old enough to back the campaign, you're old enough to find porn on the internet.

Astonished people actually pay for it tbh

I know nothing about these books, but apparently Vampirella had some very talented writers in the early days. Kurt Busiek, Grant Morrison, Warren Ellis, James Robinson.
Comics are a tough business to get started in, and I'm sure smut comics pay well and offer creative freedom as long as you are also extremely horney.
I wouldn't go looking for continuity or a grand artistic vision tho

Every couple of years there's a push to try to make Vampirella a serious comic. The rare times I've peaked in on those it's never been worth it.

Horny comics can be fun but it's really hard to do horny in a way that isn't just pathetic.

Vampirella is the queen of horny comics, and is respected as such. Doing a Vampi story is cool in the same way that doing a story for Heavy Metal is.

Just to be clear, I'm not against horny comics, I love good horny comics. Hell, I recommended an extremely horny comic on this very page.

Vampi has definitely had good talent thrown at her for years with varying results. The lows heavily outweigh the highs but I get it, when it's good, it's very good.

That said, I think there's a huge difference comparing a new Vampi kickstarter with a Lady Death or Zombie Tramp kickstarter.

I also want to be clear that I'm not at all saying they shouldn't keep doing these. They make absolutely massive amounts of money for the creators and unlike other campaigns that never really get fulfilled (*coughComicsGatecoughcough*) so obviously there's a market. I'm just curious why there's a market. The current campaign has ~1900 backers and ~256k committed to it. That's around $130 per backer. I know it's a little skewed because they have extremely expensive tiers but if you exclude those and their backers, that just drops the average to $120. Am I missing something? Is there some real secondary market for the variants that I don't know about?

What was the last great multiverse as a plot point comics story? The closest thing I can think of is the lead up to Hickman's Secret Wars.
