The one good romance in 40k is the part in Betrayer with the mechanicum magos in charge of the orbital defenses and shipping lanes at Calth, and his partner.

That is Know No Fear.

Ravenor and Eisenhorn are very off puttingly horny at times because Abnett was not good at writing female characters at all then. The Magos is a good example of a much more recent Abnett book with a very low key and subtle but much more earnest and heartfelt romantic subplot drusher and macks

Black Library has a new short by Mike Brooks, The Long Promise, that continues his alpha legion story. Reading it now.

His sorceress Tuvala regales a newly augmented alpha legionary with the story of how she turned to the legion and met Akurra, while Akurra hatches a personal plot against an isolated death watch keep and goes it alone.

Very fun story, Brooks alpha legion is my favorite of the many many marine focused stories running.

Do you want some books? Of course ya do!

Speaking of Mike Brooks, the CE of Brutal Kunnin goes up for pre-order. But there's a twist, the pre-orders go up December 16th, and will be available for a period of three weeks.

Limited to 1500 copies. So don't expect it to last the whole pre-order period.

Hi there, would you like to try some spicy products?

I got baited by a social media post from some content-mill that doesn't give any new info and just rehashes everything we already know, but man, I'm at the point where I'm so on the edge for any more new information in this regard that I'm instantly clicking poo poo like this

/edit:
I'm also in a bit of a state of despair that Prime is bankrolling this for a cash-grab and could give it the Rings of Power treatment, but at least Cavill as a complete nerd-lord has some say on the direction it goes in

Why the hell not?
Sea of Souls is pretty good, definitely recommend it.

It did not, however, advance the overall story of the crusade at all, I don’t really understand the point of this series in general. (As opposed to just writing standalone books set during the crusade)

I just watched an interview with Cavill and he said he's been into Warhammer 40k since he was 10 years old, which is pretty cool. If anyone is going to bring the fiction to live action 40k it's going to be him.

I want this to succeed so bad. Best fanboy outcome is that we get a Marvel equivalent of the Heresy without them making up entirely new things so they can sell minis. Let them perfect the 40k universe first, then go balls out big budget Endgame style and do the Heresy.

Except that slow and plodding is more Thunder Warrior than Astartes.

I think that Games Workshop needs to take a page from Cyberpunk 2077 and put out something animated like that on netflix or another streaming platform. There is a lot of money they leave on the table by being too precious with content.

Also GW should absolutely have Walton Goggins in their show, too.

His patreon went live again last month or so. He doesn't put any GW stuff on there, only other side things he has time to work on. One of his posts from a year back or so he apologized for his lack of updates that he was too busy with GW stuff and that he was burnt out and depressed or something. It didn't sound like he was working on anything specifically, but it didn't bode well. I can only hope GW figures out that those people need to be left to their own work schedules and methods even if it doesn't align to what they had hoped for: He's that good.

Yeah, Astartes are superhumanly fast, they're like Jedi in speed and agility (and a lot of their hero types use power weapons, which are basically lightsabers) but built and armored like a tank. I don't recall that many visual things (games or animated) that really show that well, they tend to look more plodding or be a relatively generic enemy. I've always liked the mix of precision and brutality.

It's really weird to me that they're super-precious with any kind of video or animated 40k stuff, but they license the game rights out like candy (or did last time I looked), really seems like they could rake in cash and that's one of their favorite pasttimes.

I must have watched Astartes a hundred times by now. Insane that GW hasn't thrown a bunch of people and money at him and told him to go hog wild.

Interesting, in the end bonus content of Fall of Cadia, Robert Rath talks about how he took inspiration for Cadia from his visit to Korean DMZ. He also flat-out states his intent that the idea that Cadia produces so many cultists recidivists and rebels due to its proximity to Eye of Terror is convenient excuse, and a lot of it is due how life in Cadia loving sucks.

yeah that sounds about right. Chaos is kinda the only other big game in town since like any other system outside imperial authoriterian fasch technofeudalism is dead and forgotten. even if some rebel group discovers "demokrasy" or or Socialismsky" something from some tomes, some chaos poo poo will worm its way in and struggle session everyone else out or absorb it. like alot of chaos cultists just strike me who as normal folks who broke from whatever hell job they had and either found solace/less pain with the hell monster OR the idea of "at least i get to flay my boss alive before i get shot down by the PDF" or "at least i dont feel my super cancer" or "maybe one of those demons will have sex with me" etc.

You don't need to read the bonus content for that though, it's stated outright in the book too. IIRC it's in one of the parts from the perspective of the Chaos agent, talking about how easy recruitment is. The Imperium is not cool and good.
