Is it the moment-to-momemt gameplay?

Granted, I don't care for driving games so maybe that's it.

It's a curious phenomenon, that game.

It’s because they’re good games, hth

Take Two has set the industry standard in game design with each new installment since GTA III. 6 will be no exception.

At the most basic level they are just fun to pick up and play and it’s one of the few series that truely “Lets you do anything”

Yes, if you leave it as your "home Xbox", they will be able to access everything you own including Game Pass if you have that, while using their own account. The downside is your own access will be limited whenever there's server/internet trouble (it has to be always online).

You can both set each other's consoles as your Home Xboxes to share everything.

That's the weird part. I've never had much fun playing them, even San Andreas (with that it was more about the feels). The emergent stuff can be fun, but I can just queue up a bunch of YouTube videos for that.

I think it's all the driving you're expected to do, and that the characters and stories don't interest me. That's my theory. Anywho, this has been a useless derail, so, carry on etc.

Tomorrow an official Firefight mode will be released!

Halo!

343 continuing their long tradition of awesome post-launch support. I know the game won GOTY in '21 but they deserve another award for how well they've supported the game post-launch, they don't get the recognition they deserve imo. The continual sandbox updates with making bosses available for use in Forge mode and more new equipment is cool too, I hope they eventually add more enemy races. There's been so many leaks of in-progress content that's turned out to be true so maybe when they introduce the new biomes we might get some surprises to accompany them?

I said come in! posted:

Will society still be standing by then? So far away, but only because i'm really hyped.

We'll all be talking about the eventual GTA6 remasters before you know it. Having said that the trailer looks great and I'm not the biggest fan of the IP nowadays (especially with how heavily they lean into GTA Online which I understand is hugely successful for them but is still a confusing mess imo) but they really know how to sell a game. I'm impressed with how densely the world is populated as well, hope it's still the same when it launches because that trailer looks like they've finally accomplished what the IP has been striving for.

I'm going to need to get another expansion card :sigh:

On the topic of the Game Awards since the big GTA6 trailer leaked, I had no idea the show is 3 hours long :stare: I feel compelled to watch however because apparently Arkane Lyon will be announcing their new game there and given the FTC leaks I think it's probably going to be Dishonored 3 which is huge for me personally since that's one of my favorite IPs and while Deathloop wasn't to everyone's taste they had an insanely good run with D1, D2 & DotO. I just hope they go back to Unreal Engine again. For anyone wondering as well, Redfall was Arkane Austin which is a different team. Dishonored is up there with Titanfall & Bloodborne for favorite IPs for me so I'll slog through TGA for a glimpse, even if it seems a bit early for them to be announcing it. Could be something else though? Leaker says it's Arkane Lyon but I'd be hype if Coalition turned up to debut a new Gears game, especially after they dropped that fancy Unreal Engine 5 Matrix promo game, but I think Xbox would save that for their E3-like show?

Also, I'm not sure if this was covered already because there's way too many posts to catch up on but just in case it wasn't, Cyberpunk 2077 is getting another big update:

Grand Theft Auto games since III have always been pretty revolutionary in terms of the tech behind them and the new things each respective title in the franchise is capable of. Their main issue is that they've tended to lean into some outdated "hard" types of game design in the "losing progress" sense, like prior to I think the last GTA4 DLC, something going wrong in a mission (which could often happen in a way that wasn't really your fault like your car getting stuck in a weird way) and failing it meant a complete do-over of that mission, down to having to go back to wherever you got the mission from, driving to where the mission actually starts etc. And GTA4 also had the problem of sort-of forcing you to do certain technically-optional things like hanging out with friends who randomly call you at a bad time, something they eventually tweaked after pushback via some updates.

As another weird related point they are a bit insane when it comes to their expectations for getting all of the achievements. For example Grand Theft Auto IV, as a best case scenario, requires you to do something like 120 separate races in multiplayer (possibly more because you have get 1st place in a good number of them), which is creeping into the neighborhood of how well you have to do to get all of the trophies in Gran Turismo Sport which also has a reputation for being an insanely hard grind, and that's just for the driving side of things. There are also no good in-game features letting you actually keeping track of what you've done, it's so iffy that some people on forums that do achievement tracking created actual checklists for you to fill out to confirm what exactly you'd done. This only got worse once they introduced small sub-tasks into missions and made it so to gold rank it you couldn't die and checkpoint restart, and for some missions that meant, for example, having to go through a five-minute drive to where the mission actually starts and your stats start mattering.

I think by a similar token you can look at how a lot of the most-advertised new features in GTA Online were things like the casino to get those sweet sweet microtransaction bucks.

So it was kind of a thing especially in the PS3/360 era where people preferred games like Saints Row and Sleeping Dogs to GTA because, while they weren't as technically advanced, they were a bit more accessible and "fun" in that sort of regard.
