Was reminded of the lame Cult of the Dead Cow name, which I thought was a lame name they made up for their band but apparently they took the name from an actual slaughterhouse in Texas which makes it even lamer. lol

I was just reminiscing about a story of everyday life in a police state that happened to me, what, a couple years ago? Thought I'd share. There's this French rocker called Julien Clerc who got really popular with a bunch of albums during the 60's to 90's. Not a bad dude at all, really, adapted Hair into French, really resonated with the times. One of his songs, "Mélissa", is a product of its own time, 1984 (our president at the time was François Mitterrand, a Socialist). In it a man tells you the story of Melissa, a metis of Ibiza, who lives naked and is spied upon by the neighborhood. And now said man is attempting to sell you a spyglass, but don't you tell that to Melissa! Anyway, on that day of tyool 2022 I was shopping at the supermarket and there in the background I could hear Julien Clerc singing the song of Melissa. And given that I was a boy with a good memory for lyrics in the 90's, I was singing Melissa to myself. I was smiling in anticipation of the part where Clerc sings the following lyric: "Come down now! That is not allowed! Creeping at people!" she cries, but of course, Never an agent in sight. She rages, that's a waste of time, Nobody hears The cops are all sell-outs Ten years, she's waited The store radio betrayed me exactly at Clerc's line where he says in his jovial jokey tone that the cops are all sell-outs. No agressive beep, just an absence of sound for two seconds. So I did get myself to pay attention to a song that, in spite of its popularity, Julien Clerc doesn't sing anymore in public (at least, not back in 2012), just to be robbed of that one cathartic moment - so that the police mightn't have their feelings hurt. Sometimes I just think of that moment as a funny politics poo poo I remember.
